The "hero shooter" craze of a few years ago was supposed to "kill" TF2. They all died and TF2 remains the king despite not being updated for a long fucking time.

Rift did. Their launch tagline was "We're not in Azeroth anymore". The game had a solid year or two, but last I played it went f2p and was a fucking ghost town.
