Indeed. I miss the days of good video game trailers
any actual autists here for this game? thelostworlds.net has been updated in the end of the last year with some new info for those who care and didn't see it yet
>any actual autists here for this game?
My favorite in the series is by far BO1, but I've always found SR1 pretty interesting if dissatisfying. It inspires a lot of "what-could-have-been" thinking.
>My favorite in the series is by far BO1
my fucking vampiric nigger
>but I've always found SR1 pretty interesting if dissatisfying
I mainly loved seeing nosgoth all fucked up 2 millennia later. Was aso cool as shit to explore and I found the side areas a lot cooler than the main areas
My biggest fucking problem with SR2 was how boring and linear the map was. No hidden side shit to explore, no hidden powers or collectables, just go here and get it over with
>Why can't western videogames be good anymore
FTFY
video games are good, but in another timeline. we're here instead because history abhors a paradox.
>I mainly loved seeing nosgoth all fucked up 2 millennia later.
All that stuff was cool. And seeing Kain's other lieutenants in such a grotesque state despite their aristocratic appearances in the opening was interesting and carried on the themes of degradation and decay of BO1 rather well. It arguably delivered that even better than BO1 despite not having normal people around to contrast against. I just don't find inhabiting Raziel as interesting as Kain in BO1. A nobleman being reduced to murderous blunt instrument feeding on people and throwing acid puddles around is just a more visceral arc, and this extends to the game design itself. (Sucking the blood of goons and chained up people crying for help carries more impact than simply sucking the souls out of monsters). Raziel is more pathetic (in both senses) than Kain, though.
All that stuff gets sidelined in SR2 and Defiance, though. And the game design gets considerably worse despite being more polished. The level design doesn't do much other than deliver the player from one Hennig soap opera scene to another.
>My biggest fucking problem with SR2 was how boring and linear the map was
same,such waste of potential
>posting the shit version
Everything you just said is what I've been trying to say to SR1 babies for years. They start the series with SR(I did too) , having never heard of BO1 and always suck off raziel and shit on kain
I finally got around to playing BO1 and THEN the rest of the series a few years back and that really changed my perspective of the whole series. Kain is just a fuck ton more interesting than raziel, who while cool in his own way gets too much attention for me. Another thing I hate is how weak kain is after BO1. He had those cool as axes, a flame sword, maces the soul reaver and all those badass powers, including turning into a werewolf shooting lightning the all sorts of bloody shit you described, and you finally get to defiance, all you get to do is glide, push shit with telekinises and use the Wifflebat Reaver.
And I know BO2 was just resued assests from a cancelled game, but I learned to enjoy that game more like a dark comedy, and honestly enjoyed it more than SR2 (mainly because simon templeman carries the fucking game though
Fun fact, the background music is Information Society
congrats on posting the actual shit version with cropped edges to fit widescreen
it's not the aspect ratio that makes it the better version dumb nigger
MALEEEEEEEK
>All that stuff gets sidelined in SR2
But it focused pretty heavily on the whole corruption thing.
holy shit user! is that...
I sometimes go on mental gymnastics to try to explain every plothole the series has when I can't sleep.
Because there are a lot of assholes that took over and are regulating the industry to appeal to boring people.
>I learned to enjoy that game more like a dark comedy, and honestly enjoyed it more than SR2
>because simon templeman carries the fucking game though
sincerely, not even Simon could save that pile of GETTING DIZZY, KAIN?
All these years and some retards still use the same inaccurate filenames.
Not in the same way. It was relegated to the plot more than the actual surroundings and characters you interact with. It's less visceral.
heh, some of you sheep are alright. don't go to the Sarafan Stronghold on the next dawn
>whole game takes place in generally the same area spread throughout hundreds of years
>the future is noticeably more dark and oppressive, pitch black sky, constant rain, and gross landscapes abound
>meanwhile the past is pure as snow
>Raziel makes direct observations about the state of the environment several times
And you still missed it.
so are you saying to me that SR1 is actually more of a tomb raider game than the actual franchise could be?
Did you miss the rest of my post or something? My point was about how Kain and Raziel themselves heightened and emphasized the themes, as did the characters you interacted with (the Circle, Kain's lieutenants). I didn't say it was absent. I said it was sidelined. Which it was. Time-traveling shenanigans take center stage.
>Time-traveling shenanigans take center stage.
Which put a big emphasis on, in part, to...?
Do the steam versions of soul reaver 1 and 2 run like shit or what/
I already said it was relegated to the plot. That's what I meant by "relegated to the plot." It is reflected in the surroundings and even some of the characters, yes, but less so. A lot of the macabre flavoring that defined Blood Omen and the first Soul Reaver are lessened, and it's that macabre flavoring that gave their themes the visceral impact I was focusing on in my post.
Yeah they do, SR 2 less than the first one, but there's always fixes and patches. Probably Defiance is the only one that never crashes.
So seeing the wasteland and ruins in SR1 was also just "relegated to the plot"? Nah. That's dumb and runs contrary to the dude you initially replied to.
>So seeing the wasteland and ruins in SR1 was also just "relegated to the plot"?
No? Why are you pretending that I said it was completely absent? I never said it was. I said it was lessened and sidelined. The entirety of my original post was on how visceral BO1 and SR1 focused on its themes. This isn't hard to follow.
>sidelined
>Not in the same way
>Less visceral
>It is reflected in the surroundings and even some of the characters, yes, but less so.
I think I made myself clear.
>not posting the superior spanish dub
as with everything wrong in the modern world, liberalism
>Why can’t western video games be good anymore?
fifyfamalamadingdingdiggerydooda
dios mio... el vampiro...
It's great but I don't think it surpasses the original, Kain's voice for SR2 was awful.
because product managers are hired to remove all joy from a project
One of my earliest gaming memories is renting Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver for the Dreamcast at Blockbuster and playing all night with my older brother. I want to go back, lads
