Daily reminder any level in this franchise not made by Romero has been pure shit, sandy peterson's levels are terrible.
Quake had way better level design with only the fourth chapter being a stinker, it's also better from a gameplay and aesthetic standpoint.
Daily reminder any level in this franchise not made by Romero has been pure shit, sandy peterson's levels are terrible
hey...
hadephobia was pretty good. so was scythe 2
with brutal doom/project brutality
Duke Nukem 3D is better than either
this except plutonia is the best official classic doom wad and was made by no one from id
shitters will disagree with this post btw
Chasm is the best doom level
No, Duke3d is overrated trash, all build engine games are, really.
Chasm was fucking awful. Then again, the entirety of Doom II was pretty terrible. The Revenants and the super shotgun were literally the only good things about that game, everything else just made the game less fun and more frutrating.
TNT Evilution was better
>the entirety of Doom II was pretty terrible
Stop trying so hard to fit in.
This except Quake Episode 4 kicks ass
BLOW IT OUT YOUR ASS
>it's a "chaingunners pop out of the wall" episode
Yet still better then doom and quake
Blood is overrated
Duke is clunky but still enjoyable
Shadow Warrior is actual bullshit
don't @ me
I'm not trying to fit in, I'm pretty sure this board likes Doom II (Or atleast I have never seen someone who wasn't a zoomer hate on it). I'm just saying the game is terrible. Doom 1 was good for it's technical innovations but as a game, it's not very good. Knee Deep in the Dead was good, The Shores Of Hell was mediocre and Inferno was an abomination. The shooting is good, but when the level design is terrible for 90% of the game, it doesn't really matter.
I admire Doom for how impressive it was at the time, but as a game it's hopelessly outmatched by Quake.
All better then doom
Ewww, a Quakefag.
No, the games were 2 years out of date when they came out, had way too many unneccesary gimmicks and have aged terribly. Quake on the other hand has aged incredibly well.
The most positive thing I can say about the build engine games a is that they're better than Doom 2016, but even Quake IV was better than that piece of shit.
Quake is objectively better than Doom, you'd have to be actually nostalgic, wear rose-tinted glasses and be actually retarded to think otherwise. Quake has better movement, weapons, level design, gunplay, enemies, music, graphics and artstyle than Doom. It's a better game by every metric. The only reason people prefer Doom is either because they're zoomers and e-celebs tell them they're classics or nostalgic boomers.
Did you not get to the part in Quake where they completely ran out of ideas and threw shambler closets and those stupid jumping boogers at you in the hopes you'd just fuck off already and play qw.
>Quake is objectively better than Doom
The shit plebs think these days.
*blocks your path*
You can deny it, but you haven't given me any proper arguments yet. Quake is simply the better game.
Read the OP, I already said the 4th chapter of Quake was shit
You haven't given any actual arguments either, typical Quaketard.
Ion Maiden is the Build engine perfected.
I did, though. Try arguing against any of my points.
"Quake is better" and "Doom levels suck" are not actual criticism, I know its hard for a low IQ Quakefag to understand though.
Well, considering you cannot disprove anything I said here: and your posts are the equivalent of going "NANANANANA YOU'RE WRONG": It seems like you're the low IQ one here.
Doom has better movement, weapons, level design, gunplay, enemies, music, graphics and artstyle than Quake.
>Sigil got fucking delayed again today
Oh. Well it doesn't change that the reason episode 4 is so shit that is that they couldn't put enough enemies on screen to make the bestiary really flesh out or present much of a challenge once you learned their basic patterns. Also qw bunny hopping is cool but makes me want to hurl so that part of the game is dead to me unless I edit some shitty q3 movement approximation into darkplaces.
I haven't seen custom campaigns for Quake with slaughterWAD numbers. 2D sprites really do help with rendering a lot of monsters at once, still playable even with Brutal Doom's resource hogging.
That said, slaughterWADs can be complete ass to play though. But that means Quake's still missing out on some things.
Bumping, the reply is coming soon
Romero is making us his bitch
>better movement
Objectively wrong: Quake has rocket jumping and bunnyhopping, Doom has... Strafing, I guess?
>weapons
Depends on how we rate weapons, if we're rating them based on feel, I guess Doom's are better. But if we're rating them on how balanced they are in a competitive deathmatch setting, Quake's weapons take the cake, there's a reason Quake basically replaced Doom in competitive online multiplayer communities.
>level design
Wrong, Sandy Peterson's levels are terrible, his levels always have dumb bullshit in them, I could name a ton but to keep it simple: Look at the Courtyard in Doom II: There's a switch at the start that you are supposed to shoot, despite there being no other switch in the game with that function, it doesn't even try to tell you that it's shootable. Another example would be the entirety of the level "The Citadel". Though if we're talking Doom 1 only, Inferno was godawful: the first level was slow as shit and there was barely any ammo, that trend was continued in the other levels. It's a complete opposite to the gameplay that the game showed beforehand and the chapter is overall draining to play.
As for The Shores Of Hell, atleast Sandy based the levels off Tom's designs which made it a bit less shit.

>gunplay
see >weapons
>enemies
Nope, the demons (not counting the former humans) all act the same way besides the pinky, the lost souls and I guess the Caco (which is still essentially a stronger imp that can fly)
Quakes enemies on the other hand are all varied and none of them share the same traits. They're much more creatively done and way more fun to fight.
>music
Quake's music is better, mainly because they didn;t rip off a bunch of metal tracks in that one and Trent Reznor actually tried making something original.
>graphics
Nigger are you fucking baiting me right now? I know you essentially copypasted my argument but still. This is not even slightly subjective, Quake's graphics are objectively more detailed and objectively superior.
>artstyle
Quake's lovecraft-inspired style is way more enticing than Doom's artstyle which was a rather shit ripoff off of H.R. Giger's style mixed with metal album cover art. Quake's style is way more creative and original.
>Oh. Well it doesn't change that the reason episode 4 is so shit that is that they couldn't put enough enemies on screen to make the bestiary really flesh out or present much of a challenge once you learned their basic patterns.
Yes, I don't need to hear that. I already know chapter 4 is garbage. Sandy Peterson has literally never made a single good level in his life.
>Also qw bunny hopping is cool but makes me want to hurl so that part of the game is dead to me unless I edit some shitty q3 movement approximation into darkplaces.
Then go to a no-bhop server or some shit.
Quake's music is mostly ambient non music and the game has one of the brownest color palettes of any game released up to that point.
First of all, slaughterWADs are terrible, fighting hordes of monsters larger than 50 (and even 50 is pushing it) with a BFG just gets boring. I played a ton of slaughterWADs and never enjoyed a single one
Secondly, Quake's enemies are not made to be fought in hordes, they are made to fought one on one
That depends on whether you have the BFG or the cells for it at the time. I play a personal customized version of BD with rebalanced everything; it's not always sustainable to clear enemies with the big gun, especially if the map designers were sufficiently evil and spaced out the hordes properly.
Weird that you ignored everything else I said, does that mean you agree or what?
As for the arguments you presented:
>Quake's music is mostly ambient non music
Yes, and that's still better than ripping off metal tracks and calling it your own.
>and the game has one of the brownest color palettes of any game released up to that point.
I don't know if that's a comment on the graphics or the artstyle, if it's the graphics: Palettes don't make the graphics better, Quake's graphics are entirely polygonal, there's not a single 2d sprite that's always facing you in the entire game, that alone OBJECTIVELY makes the graphics better than Doom's. You can like Doom's 2d sprite graphics better, but both Doom and Quake thrived on being realistic and Quake objectively does a better job at looking realistic.
If it's a comment on the artstyle: the brown color palette is utulized so well that it really doesn't matter. I did once think the same way as you, but I realized the main thing that fucks up the games artstyle is OpenGL filtering: Type "gl_texturemode gl_nearest mipmap_linear" into the command line, it's like night and day. The game looks gorgeus once you see it in the pixellated look the game was meant to be viewed in.
>Quake's graphics are entirely polygonal, there's not a single 2d sprite that's always facing you in the entire game, that alone OBJECTIVELY makes the graphics better than Doom's
Quakefags really are the original graphicsfag cancer. That's why Quake has way less enemies and smaller levels, its all about muh graphics.
I used to say the same, but in retrospect it was mostly because I could beat TNT and not Plutonia.
Lemme ask something, how many of you all think that Archviles suck and that Hunted is a bad map?
And you again only adress one thing I said and nothing else, I will stop talking to you after this post. You are either actually braindead or a baiting faggot. Hopefully the latter
You said that Doom has better graphics, I simply said you were wrong.
>That's why Quake has way less enemies and smaller levels
But they worked around those limitations beautifully and crafted better levels than anything ever made by id in Doom before.
>its all about muh graphics.
Quite funny you say that, Doom was literally all about "muh graphics" and it was the main selling point of the entire game (Quake did this too, but saying only Quake did it is retarded, id software's entire history has been about muh grafix).
You are really fucking embarrasing,if this is the average IQ for a doomtard, there's no wonder you think it;s better than Quake.
>But they worked around those limitations beautifully and crafted better levels than anything ever made by id in Doom before.
Yeah man, I love walking through brown corridors set to droning non music and taking on 2 - 3 enemies at a time. Really intense stuff.
Nigger, are you going to actually adress literally anything else I posted? You keep doubling down with retarded arguments on a couple points in my posts.
