the first vergil fight is incredibly easy, desu the only challenging boss is vergil 3

I just got done replaying 3 and think that's objectively false given how many garbage bosses and enemies there are, and missions designed around puzzles and backtracking were really annoying after playing through 5

at the end of dmc3 dante gets the shit kicked out of him and goes through arc of embracing his human side, his demon side and learning to live with some sort of purpose, he becomes a complete character. veril embraces his demon side and lives with purpose but refuses to embrace his human side (making his goals misguided) and loses to dante because he's an incomplete character.

after separating his human side from his overwhelming demon side, vergil's human side is free to actually think about where he might have gone wrong in life, and when they merge back together it's clear that vergil feels bad about how his life has turned out and takes steps to change it by saving the world (from a threat that he did not have any involvement in creating). it takes time (and 2 losses, similar to dante in dmc3) for this to really settle in but by the end vergil is a complete character like dante at the end of dmc3

I disagree with the guy you replied to when it comes to him saying that Vergil being a REEEing power autist is somehow a radical change to his character from 3, but I do think Vergil in 5 is slightly different personality wise. Honestly he only feels a little different though, to me in 5 it just feels like we're seeing more of the side he showed a lot more rarely in 3. In 3 he was super serious with a stick up his ass most of the time but around Dante he had moments where he was a bit more playful, in 5 we just see more of that more often. Like I've heard some people say that Vergil feels like a completely different person in 5 but if you pay attention to those moments in 3 he really isn't. I do think that he might have absorbed a little bit of V's traits when they reunited though, like actually contemplating if his life would be different if he and Dante's places were switched. Though it's not really personality and more like Vergil learned from V's experiences and became a tiny bit more thoughtful/less stubborn

i think why i love 4 trish is because its her coming into her own

imo trish has a ton of potential as a character, and they touched on it a bit in 5. shes a demon created with immense skill at deception and the arcane lore to back it up, and seems to know much of the history of the underworld. add in that innate wondrous curiosity of the human world that she has to have (inklings of it in dmc1 that can be explained away by her just mirroring dantes cavalier attitude in the games past 1) and shes got a chance of being a great guide/mentor to some non-sparda descendant character in subsequent games

plus in 4 it looks like shes tweaked with her look which was a nice way of seeing her branch out from demon mom copy

protos are really more of a parrying minigame than anything else; if youre half-decent their attacks are meaningless. theyre almost a nice break (and the only diff on DMD is they take twice as long to kill). the scudos are pretty lame compared to biancos ill admit tho, as well as baphomets

how is DMC1 better than 5 in that regard? 5 follows the same philosophy where the enemies can all be fought and styled on in the same manner but behave differently and you need to deal with them appropriately (you can't keep antenoras stunned and must be careful of their hyper armor, have to stay mobile when fighting the magicians, stun or block the spinning fuckers etc.) and it doesn't feel gimmicky like most 3 enemies where you're forced to cheese them with the same shit

Vergil in 5 needs ... polishing, before one can rate him properly.
By this, I mean that he's incomplete. In 3, his character was complete. He was an ass, but you got to see everything going on on-screen there with him. From moments in which he showed slight human emotions (like showing disgusts when Arkham brings up Eva; or when he held Dante's amulet after stabbing him). You get to see Vergil and just VERGIL! No V or Urizen bullshit. Just Vergil himself, so his every moment and action was attributed to just his character. He was a complete character, for his game, for a role he had in 3. It was a complete game, in short.
In 5, he's brought at the very end of the game and you barely get to see his new character properly. It basically goes like this:

all the regret and anguish felt by V over the course of the game is clearly reflected on Vergil once he returns, as evident by him thanking Nero and willingly cleaning up the mess made by Urizen to save the human world, this stuff is very clearly spelled out in the game

Hey lorefags, there's one thing that bothers me. V says that when Vergil stabbed himself he was a crumbling zombie that had one thought - to defeat Dante. So assuming that it's on the same scale as his thirst for power, where the fuck did that feeling disappear? Muh power was stuck with Urizen and he didn't appear to care much about fighting Dante (except for losing I guess), then did muh Dante went to V? Was he just that good about containing it? There's this scene with Sparda, but that's it as far as his animosity is shown.

I hate those enemies that dual wield the cleavers. If you knock them down, they get right back up at FTL speed while other enemies it takes a while for them to get up which really fucks up my comboing, and pace due to them getting up really fast and they do attack aggressively too which really fucks me over.
