Yea Forums thinks it's a linear mess of game design and a precursor for the abomination of Other M, but other ledditors will praise it because MUH SA-X and MUH FED FORCE IS ACTUALLY EVIL!!!111 even though its the lamest fucking trope in all of sci-fi
I love it. Though it isn't my favourite Metroid game and both the linearity and story focus harm the game, the level design and boss fights are top tier. The art style, graphical detail and music are both up there with the other best Metroid games, and the game has amazing atmosphere.
Personally I rank it just below Super and Prime.
Disclaimer: it was my first Metroid game.
Yea Forums voted it the 25th best game ever, so obviously it’s pretty good
Outside it being my first metroid, this post is 100% my thoughts on the subject.
I really liked it
What game?
Great game, you can yell about not being able to skip half the game with glitches and abusing wall jumps all you want but the levels, bosses, music, "atmosfeer" all of it is fantastic and if you were only able to bullshit your way to the end with the varia suit and skip the computer Yea Forums would suck it's dick to high heaven
It's fun
Really really good speedgame for totally different reasons than something like ZM or Super
Brainlets who treat it as a gateway for Other M heap unnecessary blame onto it rather than just acknowledging that Other M was a creatively bankrupt mess that just apes Super and Fusion at the same time while doing both of them worse in every way and then apply revisionist history to Fusion to pretend it has some sort of endless heap of heavy-handed cutscenes
Best 2d Metroid.
What were the other 24?
>skip half the game
If it's the half that are textbox "cutscenes" then yeah, I would enjoy it more if I could skip that half.
Fusion does have a lot of heavyhanded unskippable cutscenes, it simply has excellent gameplay to back it up.
Also I kinda like the story, even if it could have been delivered in a better way.
Navigation room dialogue never takes more than a minute and every elevator scene is around 30 or so seconds, with only a few of them in the entire game. Add all of it up and the game really only has roughly 15-20 minutes worth of story, which is a larger amount for the series but is honestly so much less of an issue than people pretend it is since they're rarely placed back to back
The real issue is that they're unskippable. Fusion is a great speed running game, yet you have to stop after every ~5 minutes of gameplay for one of these text dumps.
I have no idea why someone hasn't made a patch for this yet. It seems like the simplest thing to implement.
Its my personal favorite game and the game that convinced me that a 2D Resident Evil game would be the fucking tits.
I like its art design and upgrade order. I prefer Zero Mission though.
Better than Other M.
I agree that being able to skip them would be a godsend for repeat runs but holding A at least speeds up the text pretty generously
In contrast I find that some of the totally unskippable scenes in a game like Prime are really pushing it since there's nothing you can do about them, most notably the suit upgrades. It's pretty strange that you can only skip certain things, including a lot of upgrades, while other ones are unskippable
>get super missiles
>big explosion, cool noise and screen shake
>get ice missiles
>fucking snowflake
How do you feel about Diffusion snowflakes then user
I find it more tolerable when I don't have to wear out my thumb mashing through the text. But yes, that is a pain.
better but not as good
I just wanna blow shit up, give them a toggle like in super or something
>too linear
>FUCK adam
>reuses super's saved by da alien boss fight
>final fight against SA-X is just hit and run, felt boring
>wall jump is dogshit
>DUDE, doors, LMAO
>bosses are great, Nightmare is rad as fuck
>great atmosphere
>SA-X encounters are pretty neat
>Good dark story
>controls well
6.5/10
I think the writing is pretty bad but the story overall is good. It could have done with exactly none of Samus's monologues and much less of Adam. The game is fun, except that every boss except Yakuza and Nightmare is an unfun fucking pain in the ass, even/especially minibosses. After I played it it was my second favorite 2D Metroid And I still think the Fusion suit is one of her best outfits but now looking back I think I liked both SR and Super more.
Also it has the same exact story as Alien: Isolation beat for beat. I know it came out like a decade prior but I played it afterwards and thought it was interesting.
...
I like it a lot, some of the bosses are a mean difficulty spike though.
Horrible. Dropped it after I couldn't figure out which random item I have to use on which random wall with no clues given in order to progress further.
Really good
Only Japan got hard mode which is bs
oh yah, I forgot
the water section can suck a fat one
y cant metroid crawl
Japan also got bonus ending artwork.
Structurally it's atrocious and downright insulting as a Metroid game. It has some okay setpieces but it doesn't make up for how linear and restrictive the game is.
Also the bosses are overrated, the majority of them basically just throw their oversized hitboxes at you over and over, even the highly praised Nightmare.
>there's a mode harder than the base game
what unholy fuckery allowed that to exist
who cares about OG Metroid Fusion?
Let's discuss the most ambitious Metroid modding project of all time
youtu.be
Can't wait til it comes out in 5 years.
looks like a meme
It's my favorite
>Can't wait til it comes out in 5 years.
user that's been in development since Other M came out
I unironically love the story. Anyone who says "DURR SAMUS DOESN'T HAVE A CHARACTER/DOESN'T NEED A CHARACTER" didn't play Fusion. I loved how she's of course a badass for all she does throughout the game, but her monologues and talks with ADAM reveal her to be a jaded hero, but still a hero that will get riled up/bare her fangs when shit goes down and it comes time to do the right thing. I loved how she gets emotinal near the end of the game, even getting pissed off.
There's a certain tension that's non-stop rising throughout the entire game. Every conversation hints at something more, every secret builds on the last, and the final reveal of the Metroid lab is one of my favorite twists in videogames.
I don't need to say anything about the gameplay or music or anything else, as everyone knows its fantastic. Legit the only real complaint against the game is that the cutscenes get in the way on repeat playthroughs. If there was a "skip cutscene" button the game would unironically be perfect.
I'm glad you're here user to speak for every sub iq retard on Yea Forums
Would be my fav Metroid if the story segments had a skip option
I honestly really love the ending. The tension that builds throughout the whole game pays off in such a sublime fashion.
was fun, played it while taking shits.
Her dialogue was all cringey and she was way too obsessed with adam, it was warning signs for Other M. They could and should have characterized her better. The story is fine, the execution is not.
There's a certain atmosphere to it that I hope is replicated or exemplified with Metroid 5. Just leave the linear gameplay and evolve SM's level design with Fusion's atmosphere.
>5 years
AM2R took nearly 11 years.
>samus call her ship ai after adam because it reminds her of him
>turns out the ai was adam's mind uploaded into a computer all along
what
and Metroid X Fusion has been in development since 2012. I wasn't being cute when I said 5 years.
It's decent, I liked the first three games better but it did fill the void that was left after the 8-year wait for a Super Metroid sequel.
Metroid Fusion is everything Ludonarrative should be.
AM2R while excellent, didn't require the level of programming know-how that is X-Fusion, since the latter is a total conversion of a SNES rom.
It's the best Metroid.
Anyone who says otherwise likes anthill simulators. The linear level design is fucking great. Fuck those who like convoluted mazes. Maybe they should've cut a little bit on the dialogs and cutscenes, it gets a little heavy, but the action and linearity make it a fucking rollercoaster.
I replay it at least once or twice a year. 3 hours of pure fucking bliss.

There is too much dialogue for my liking, but the gameplay, atmosphere and sound design (-ridley) is absolutely great. And lot spookier than I thought.
Actually i forgot SOTN which was in the top 5, so Mario Bros 3 should be even lower
How does Yea Forums feel about Metroid hacks/homebrews?
reddit: the game.

> Wind Waker isn't one of them
Why?
>majoras mask
>MGS3
bleh
*SA-X stomping*
The story forever ruined the series. There is nowhere to go after it.
One of the best in the franchise.
> 1. Zelda: OOT
when will this meme die
It's different, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Although I do prefer Super and Zero Mission.
best metroid game ever
Are you implying fusion is hard?
Literally never, the only way it can be topped is if the 2020 Zelda has all of these
> 8 Traditional Dungeons
> Memorable Orchastrated Music
> No Weapon Durability
> Memorable & Well Told Storyline
> Lots of Enemy Variety
> Worthwile Overworld Content
> Memorable Characters
> Well Written Villain like Majora or Toon Ganon
FPBP
>ridiculously linear
>almost no exploration
>bland, boring areas except for NOC
>bland OST
>worst suit in the series
>forced OC adam
>unskipable cutscenes
>forced handholding
>items are all derivative
>falling for the fusion is hard meme
only thing that's harder about fusion than other 2D metroids is collision damage is high as fuck, don't play like a retard and everything's easy
I’d be down for Samus leading a team of hunters dedicated to shutting down all illegal Metroid research in the galaxy. Aside from the Federation, there’s still the rogue band of malicious Chozo hinted at the end of Samus Returns out there. The fact she has to go against both of her surrogate families (the Chozo and the Federation) could really test her resolve to keep the galaxy at peace. Maybe she could attempt to offer diplomacy, but something tells me neither the Federation nor those rogue Chozo will listen. I wouldn’t want a bunch of hammy voice work, so text boxes would be fine as long as they could be skipped. The only member I could immediately envision as part of her team would be U-Mos if he leaves the planet of Aether to a new guardian and follows Samus’s goal to return the favor of her saving his planet from the Ing.
This, they also believe that Metroid 5 will continue the corrupted Feds bullshit when SR is showing signs that the garbage plot got dropped after Other M failed, thank god.
>SR is showing signs that the garbage plot got dropped
how could it show signs of this when it takes place before?
Chozo Memory 11 reveals Metroid 5's main antagonists, not the Feds.
^ sums it up
I wish it had more freedom to explore, there are many parts of the game that are extremely on rails (how convenient, the SA-X broke all the doors except one) but hot damn does this game nail the atmosphere and the boss battle action. You've got this feeling of dread like "well, that's certainly the most fucked up mutant alien on this space station" and then you turn the corner and NOPE there's something even fucking worse. That and the feeling of being stalked by something you can't kill and the shifty GFED antics, for a GBA game they absolutely nailed the claustrophobic space station horror. I find myself coming back to it more often than Super because I love the pervading feeling of danger throughout. Super Metroid has incredible atmosphere for the first couple of hours then drops off a bit for me, I usually get bored during Maridia.
>tfw got lost playing this years ago and mow Yea Forums is making fun of me
>"Samus, we have found out the identity of the mystery attack."
>Sudden zoom-in on SA-X's face while a loud scare chord plays
you look like a meme
pfahahaha
HAHAHAHAHA
but the feds are actually evil.
t. Sylux
My first Metroid, unironically. Not quite up to snuff with Super and Prime 1, but damn good in its own right.
It was my second Metroid game after Metroid 2 so I still have a bit of a soft spot for both games even though SM/Prime fans shit on them, I've still never played though either of those games so maybe I should if not just to get a well-rounded Metroid experience
Is the SA-X a 1:1 copy of Samus or just a doll the X made to pilot the suit? This is important because I'm paranoid that the X understanding Chozo tech will probably play a part in the next metroid game, with that evil chozo and aeon shit
SA-X is just a copy of Samus and the Suit. A rather incomplete copy since its visor is actually the face, but a copy nonetheless
I'm sorry you got bullied user.
YO THIS NIGGA GOT LOST IN METROID FUSION
First metroid I ever completed,
couldn't find the passage in the elevator room in Super for a while.
It's hard to say, when you start thinking about it.
The X mimic things. But when you get to beings like Samus, BOX, and Nightmare, complications begin to arise.
For all intents and purposes, Samus and the Power Suit are two seperate things, but you've got the SA-X somehow mimicking both, because you see Samus' face behind the visor. The same goes for BOX and the brain that pilots it, and Nightmare and all it's cybernetic augments.
But you see examples throughout the game of the X taking multiple creatures and combining them, so it's likely the X did this with Samus, BOX, and Nightmare to fully mimic them.
With this, you can conclude that there likely isn't any kind of "person" inside the SA-X Power Suit. In a sense, the Samus-X is fused into that suit, much like how people used to think Samus was fused to the Fusion Suit. They're one being, like Dark Samus.
This is the most autistic thing I've read all day.
wtf is this?
The backstory for Hyper Metroid.
That's what it seems like, yeah. Especially when SA-X goes frog in the ending, there was never a human inside of it.
It was a good attempt to make a more story focused Metroid but it held your hand too much.
it's flawed but not bad. It's biggest problem is that all of Fusion's flaws were magnified for Other M
If it's on a handheld it's for children and rards
