Why didn't it have internal storage?
Why didn't it have a second set of sholder buttons?
Why didn't it have clickable sticks?
Why did they put a back touch panel on?
Why did they put a back touch panel on and never use it?
Why was there a 3G version?
Why did they announce it in Japan with CoD as the only new game?
Why didn't they allow multiple account switching?
Why didn't it have internal storage?
This is PS3 era Sony we're talking about here, of course it's design was shit
>Why didn't it have internal storage?
Poor design.
>Why didn't it have a second set of sholder buttons?
Not needed for VNs.
>Why didn't it have clickable sticks?
Not needed for VNs.
>Why did they put a back touch panel on?
Is that thing a touch panel? I've literally never seen it used.
>Why did they put a back touch panel on and never use it?
Now I wonder that too.
>Why was there a 3G version?
Memes.
>Why did they announce it in Japan with CoD as the only new game?
They didn't realize it would become a VN machine.
>Why didn't they allow multiple account switching?
Because PSN is coded horribly.
Reminder that your phone is the best portable gaming device you'll ever own.
Except for, y'know, software support.
Because they were thinking it would just be a PSP 2.
The PSP was extremely successful globally in terms of hardware sales because the majority of people used it as a portable media player instead of a gaming device. It was a third the price of the iPod Touch and had double the screen size. This is why proprietary storage was such a big deal and kept for the Vita: people bought fuckloads of it to store their own movies and music.
But for the Vita they now had to compete with smartphones that literally everyone has that have 3G internet, high resolution touchscreens, and cheap flash memory.
Their gambit at being way cheaper than a smartphone doesn't make any difference now when everyone already has one.
The game side of it was always just a token effort, they expected software sales to be as abysmal as PSP's were, where the small number of people who actually cared about games on it just pirated them. Honestly I bet you anything Sony was shocked at how long it took to hack the system and it's why they barely fought back against it.
tl;dr
Sony tried to compete with smartphones the same way the PSP competed with portable media players, while not realizing that phones are so ubiquitous that nobody settles for cheap alternatives anymore since everyone needs one.
Even then a portable system without Pokemon is doomed to niche status from the beginning so not like they could do much better.
Still, I love my Vita since it's the best possible portable console until Switch hacking is reliabile and safe and has flawless emulation of pre-sixth gen consoles and PCs.
No games.
>Why didn't it have internal storage?
It did, but it was locked out of reach for customers as a result of many dumb decisions.
>Why didn't it have a second set of sholder buttons?
Because the back touchpad was created for that as a gimmick and grips solve the problem
>Why didn't it have clickable sticks?
Because it would have been too costly.
>Why did they put a back touch panel on?
Read above
>Why did they put a back touch panel on and never use it?
They did use it in quite a few games, and again, with a grip you can get physical L2/R2 buttons as a plus.
>Why was there a 3G version?
Because they wanted to ride the novelty and use it for the online, wasn't a bad idea but it was simply too costly and not that much of an improvement for people to care.
>Why did they announce it in Japan with CoD as the only new game?
That's not what happened though.
>Why didn't they allow multiple account switching?
"Security" reasons, the PSP was the same.
>That's not what happened though.
I stayed up and watched the first reveal of the "NGP" live, they showed the hardware, announced a CoD game and said Portable Third would have stick support. That was it.
Granblue fantasy + emulators
>Why didn't it have internal storage?
they thought people would actually buy the memory cards
>Why didn't it have a second set of sholder buttons?
has to keep a slim profile to fit in a pocket smoothly
>Why didn't it have clickable sticks?
hard to make useful on thumbsticks that small, you'd press them more by accident than on larger controllers
>Why did they put a back touch panel on?
replacement for other missing inputs
>Why did they put a back touch panel on and never use it?
they didn't want to pioneer anything themselves and everyone else, third-party devs included, could tell it sucked within seconds of trying it
>Why was there a 3G version?
they thought people would pay for the privilege of mobile internet since phone carriers were gatekeeping wi-fi tethering
>Why did they announce it in Japan with CoD as the only new game?
did they?
>Why didn't they allow multiple account switching?
a personal handheld does not have legitimate use for multiple accounts, they want you to buy games from your own region store and they want your siblings to buy their own vitas
>It did, but it was locked out of reach for customers as a result of many dumb decisions.
It didn't have that much. It was strictly for OS updates that would expand the software available....even though it ended up being the opposite with them cancelling/removing services over time.
The Slim model bumped up the internal storage and partitioned 1gb of it for your own use though, which was kind of useless besides save files. Also the other issue being that the second you did insert a memory card, that internal storage became inaccessible unless you remove it, so you had to backup your games (or use PS+) to move your saves over.
>that internal storage became inaccessible unless you remove it, so you had to backup your games (or use PS+) to move your saves over
when you format a memory card it offers to copy everything over from the internal storage.
3GB of internal memory are more than enough to solve all of your save file+screenshot needs, besides, we're talking about a nearly 8 years old handheld, and the competition doesn't offer you any better in terms of internal memory either.
>and the competition doesn't offer you any better in terms of internal memory either.
The 3ds? They all came with a 4gb SD card, and later, 8gb. Due to weaker hardware, their games were also much, much smaller as a result which allowed that 4gb to go farther than a Vita, where Wipeout alone would be the only thing you could install.
why did it use proprietary SD cards marked up to larcenous prices?
Sony had a fetish for propriety memory cards for fucking years (take a look at all their camera/minidisc formats) until it finally bit them in the ass with the Vita when they asked too much for too little.
I don’t care how poorly the vita did, I still love mine.
>I bet you anything Sony was shocked at how long it took to hack the system and it's why they barely fought back against it.
It was hacked on day one dude.
Fw version 1.00 didn't have signature check, and 1.50 could lauch homebrew on OFW
>heres your internal storage, bro
I miss the golden age of portable gaming. DS had the incredible library, and the psp was the ultimate portable emulation machine.
The vita couldn't run homebrew for 90% of it's lifespan, so you were stuck with it's shit library, and the 3DS had nowhere the amount of gems the DS had.
DS and PSP era really was the best.
Wii also had the best homebrew scene of any console. I miss it user
>3DS had nowhere the amount of gems the DS had
3ds may not have been as good, but it was still amazing
>Why didn't it have internal storage?
Cost
>Why didn't it have a second set of sholder buttons?
Combo of cost/trying to keep it slim for portability/somebody thought the back touch pad would be enough.
>Why didn't it have clickable sticks?
Cost/requires more space hardware-wise for clickable stick.
>Why did they put a back touch panel on?
Someone was an idiot.
>Why was there a 3G version?
Japanese mobile networks are way crazier and more robust than US networks, and this could have led to cool shit there but was pointless everywhere else.
>Why did they announce it in Japan with CoD as the only new game?
Wut? Cod wasn't even out around launch and they had a shitload of notable launch games announced.
>Why didn't they allow multiple account switching?
No idea.
OTHER GAME
I would give anything to go back user. Playing portable ocarina at 12 fps while waiting for my brother to pick me up after music lessons was peak happiness for me
Sure, it's still the best console that came out in this underwhelming gen, but I felt it was a step down.
wait , what is that thing attached to the phone?
i know it say "wee" there but wich model is it?
>tfw using moonshell and watching movies as a pixelated mess on your ds before the age of smart phones
>using you console to look up porn without worrying about anyone finding out
>discovering you can get any game you want for free
I love my Vita. Not even a weeb, just having fun playing PS1 and PSP games, plus the 3 Vita games that appeal to me (LBP is amazing).
Sadly with the Switch getting PSP and PS1 emulation it's becoming useless
Flydigi Wee 2
Haha, I watched the entirety of the D&P saga of the pokemon anime on my ds.
Back then the entire episodes where uploaded to youtube in 3 parts and autistic me would download each part and then convert the videos to moonshell format, every week.
