I'm at work but will have some time today. I've got a ton of jrpgs to play and need help deciding what's worth playing and what isn't. For example, which of the following should I prioritize and which should I drop:
Ar tonelico, mana khemia, mother 3, suikoden, grandia, secret of mana, legend of heroes, terranigma, tales of, and more

most of them require 1000s of hours to complete and I just don't have that kind of time to be invested in it.

I have to write a 60 page paper over the next few weeks. Already procrastinating on Yea Forums, but starting an RPG feels like too much.

AT3 happened. Did you play it? It was bad, I tried to beat it 4 separate times, the "boredom filter" on 3 of those was harvestasha's tower, and the one I powered through despite how much I disliked the game just to get some closure, I made it to ar ru before I just could not take it anymore. I have effectively 60 hours into that game and have never seen any of the ending sequences, because it is so terrible.

I'm playing the Turbografx version of Wanderers from Ys as we type.

whatever you do, just don't drop Mana Khemia, especially not 2, 1 has good characters and two god tier ones, but 2 is an upgrade in every way from 1. Also about double the playtime because you get two entire storymodes then a postgame dungeon once you beat it with both on the same file.

Asside from the facts that it was a side series to atelier from the get go and the original trilogy is over, the poor sales of 3 and the GUST buyout by koei definitly hinders any future plans.
Theres technically ar no surge, but i cant see that going i to a new game. They're just to focused on making new Atelier games to atempt to print money via all the dlc to worry about making another romance focused RPG again.
That said im mostly talking out my ass here. God knows if GUST even still cares about their other IPs. Mana Khemeia is the closest I know know they even reference nowadays.

even the dives had less of an impact overall, for me. like, they were ok but at a certain point it became "I need to get through this shit so I can see what happens, but honestly I probably won't even give a fuck anymore", and that was never an issue in the other games, the dive subplots remained interesting throughout those games. Tyria was a decent character but holy shit her dives were the most boring goddamn shit ever.

Replakia had great music but it really did trivialize the combat, you could do damage so retarded with it that it rerolled the damage counter back to zero because it hit the integer limit.

I didn't claim poor sales, I don't know what it sold, what I -DO- know is that 99.999% of those sales were people that got tricked into it based on the quality of the previous two games. It's the same reason Breath of Fire got fucked; it still got another game afterwards, but it was a zombie at that point because none of the old fans were ever willing to return to the series after being betrayed by such a low quality game. I bought the box set and still have it, I keep it to remind myself not to be stupid and assume a game will be good just because it has previous games that are good.

I said I was talking mostly out of my ass. For all I know perhaps it undershot GUST's predicted sales, or perhaps Koei saw how well it sold compared to Atelier and just thought focusing on the later was more profitable.
Also I never would suggest sales would affect the series ending on 3. That would've happened regardless considering how the story went. and the Ciel nosurge series is still a sort of continuation. If anything im just miffed that there hasn't been another NoSurge game in 5 years.

I'm playing through FF VIII, but I blast through a disc and take a few weeks break to play something else. It gets tiresome after awhile of playing.

One of the only games I've ever played that I can use the "it's a good game, just not a good x game" phrase on. Also, playing the game like you are supposed to trivializes everything, fuck the SOL reset system, doing a single run padded the playtime even more than abusing that system did arguably, but it felt a lot more satisfying to start the final boss at 97.5% DMeter knowing I cheesed absolutely nothing and had made it through the game based on my own merits, and not level/gear padding.

No one actually knows and it's all entirely baseless guessing but I think it might have something to do with the story Ar Tonelico was telling reaching its conclusion.

Theres room for prequels and spinoffs though... personally I've always wanted a game where you play as a reyvateil. You could start as a melee oriented character then as the game advances learn song magic and choose which guy gets to dive into you

Mir's Rebellion was a full race vs. race war. There were also several important clashes between the Kurogane Labs/Archia and Clustania

It's average not the worst thing because XV lowered the bar of "worst JRPG I have played". The gameplay is basically "load up on strong. multi cannon tanks (the Spider Tank just ruins shit) and get a Canon Rush/Storm chip" and destroy bosses.

Granted the final boss is a punch in the dick because you have to fight 3 minibosses before it AND you can't run back to heal up/reload.

So My set-up ended up being:
2 Multi cannon tanks (Spiderbot and Little Squirt)
1 tank loaded up with gatling/chain guns (which have no ammo)

Assuming you mean the remake, the mechanics in that game are pretty shit once you get past the main story and try and go through some of the post-game content.

Don't Betas still need to use one? Finnel is a Beta type and she mentioned that she may be needing one soon when you got to one point in the game.

No. The only reason Finnel needs something to extend her life (which is not even the typical extending agent) is because she has four souls lodged in her body, and that's eating up the Telomere from Triangular Nuclear Loop x4 times faster than a normal Reyvateil
