Not seeing them as a person or a fictional character, but just a thing to fuck or get horny from in this context. This somehow may lead to people "objectifying" real women, which leads to discriminating and/or sexual harassing them.
It also paints them in the wrong light and woman, especially girls and teenagers, may think they have to look and act like the videogame characters.

It's really a really stupid thing to complain about.

While I never actually enjoyed the Japanes over-exaggeration, we should be happy that there are industrialized societies that actually went through different cultural development than the Enlightement path that we took out there. The 2nd game immediately went to a military academy setting, and the fanservice of the characters has been emphasized since the first game's DLC and only gotten more prominent with time. 1 by itself was made as Anime WWII, but after over a decade since its release, the series and landscape have changed so to speak, so it was made with a very different tone in mind from the get go.

In Neptunia/Senran Kagura case I'd agree with you, but Valkyria Chronicles 4 has maybe 3% of it's story taken by fanservice.

That is really not true. If you've ever turned on TV in Japan, you'd find that offense is really not a concern of the comedy. It's just that in Japan, there is glorification of cynicism. Emotions are never trivialized or marginalized in the way that we do. They may value the ability to supress them, but that is a different story.

In the west, we like to think of ourselves as "better" than to laugh at slapstick humor, because a certain level of very base emotions and indulgences are looked down upon. Cartoons are for children, slapstick comedy is for children: Their very naive and simplistic joys are effectively dismissed. Japan does not have that. Or at least - not nearly on the level that we do. They can and will laugh at shit that we consider ourselves "above" laughing at, because... they really never even thought that might be something they should be ashamed off.
It's connected to the fact that Japan has much stricter and wider line between "high" and "low" culture, and the two are considered complimentary, rather than necessary hierarchical.

It's a fascinating subject to study, really. But no matter how much I learn about it: it does not make Japanese comedy any funnier to me. I just... can't laugh at their shit.
