Magnetic tapes will eventually just go out, flash memory will eventually just go out, an optical disc will stay okay for decades in normal conditions and a M-disc will last upwards of 1200 years. It's a iomega zip drive. It was a thing before CD burners became commonplace and it stored around 100MB I think. It did see some moderate usage around offices and such, but cheap CD burners killed it. They were unreliable, expensive and kinda loud but they looked cyberpunk as shit.

CD-R has a guaranteed life span of around 10 years, and a theoretical lifespan of 25 years under perfect conditions. CD-RW is even worse. Be careful with those. If something important is on them, replace them with a few copies on seperate flash drives.
