My first GTA was III, and my favorite is tied between VC/IV. Some of that is my love for NYC though as the setting draws me in.
That being said 3/VC/SA/IV are all amazing, but for me it's VC/IV>SA>III>V>I never played 1/2.

GTA IV and San Andreas are both absolutely amazing but for absolutely opposite reasons.
San Andreas is a janky sandbox that gives you all kinds of power fantasies through it's story and RPG element plus pop culture sweetness. Same thing for VC arguably more janky but best pop culture.
GTA IV in the other side is a technical marvelpiece with tons of care put on every element of it's make but dropping any pretense of power fantasy (although the latter was ammended in Ballad of Gay Tony).
