You need it for a decent roux. Also the best thing to brown garlic, onions, and shallots in. Infuse it with herbs for a nice spread on bread. A must in most baked goods. And the superior way to non-stick a piece of cookware

Sieges are the only battles that really matter, so going up against the faction that specializes in crossbows and polearms is pretty aids, yes. The fact that they pretty much hard counter the faction that a lot of people start out with (because heavy cavalry and big honkin' knights sounds awesome) just adds fuel to the shitposting fire.
