Why does this happen?

Excellence takes time, if they owned Pokemon mainline gens would be delayed too instead of being rushed out the gate

jee it's almost as if when your shareholders push a development team to crap out a project that isn't ready yet it's gonna reflect badly on you

>takes forever
Because they don't want to pump out shit heaps like Anthem.

ports

Mario and Pokemon are the two most iconic video game franchises in the world no doubt. But Sonic and Minecraft likely surpass Zelda's fame. Also, I don't know what the other two you could be referring to are. The Wii/Mii series?

Quality. But yeah I wish I didn't have to wait forever for a new Metroid between releases

pretty much this
their whole philosophy is "it has to have something new" which is why some franchises have been buried. fzero, star fox, all their nes games are p much ded because there isnt much that they can do with them.
except for when they milk the shit out of something

Absolute Delusion, kill yourself please. Zelda is the most circlejerked thing on the entire internet by far. Nothing even compares

> Pokemon (Highest Grossing)
> Zelda (Most Critically Acclaimed)
> Smash (Most Popular)
> Mario (Most Influential & Iconic)
> Metroid (Most Consistent)

Based, this is factually correct & no amount of autistic crying or arguments from Zoomers could possibly change that.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_game_franchises

> Muh Sales
Utterly irrelevant when every Zelda is universally considered the absolute best of all time. Normies don’t give a fuck about sales, they only care about Metascores & What critics tell them is good.

> Metroid (Most Consistent)
Remember Federation Force and Other:M.

No franchise is perfect, only franchise in the same discussion with constency is Resident Evil

you've clearly spent too much time on the internet and think redditors = normies. Go outside and meet some real normies. They won't know who Link is because they're too busy playing Grand Theft Auto.

> Metroid
> Most Consistent

Attached: SI_Wii_MetroidOtherM_image1600w.jpg (1600x800, 185K)

Remember Fusion and Prime 3 exist.

Unironically, pokemon is the most consistent, but for the wrong reasons.

Anthem took forever too though, 7 years between ME3 and Anthem

I worked at a hotel, everyone was obsessed with Zelda & loved A Link To the Past, Ocarina Of Time & Breath of the Wild. Nobody once mentioned MineCraft or GTA. I literally never met one person out of well over 1,000 guests from the around the world that didn’t know what Zelda was when i was playing it

Bait post

Agree on all except Metroid.

Yea Forums voted Fusion as the 25th best game of all time this year

The real bait post is insulting the actually good Metroid games by saying those two are on the same level.

remind if nintendo didn't have a double digit IQ they'd fund this project and have the game be a switch exclusive

youtu.be/Xos08tZ0aX0?t=67

Attached: MML3.jpg (700x394, 157K)

>Yea Forums said the game was good.
Proving my point.

If it wasnt for Yea Forums i wouldnt know about Zelda at all
Never knew about it prior to first coming here 12 years ago

Bait, try harder

New F-Zero when?

Nintendo are willing to delay a game to achieve their vision. But that's only a partial explanation for your problem, Nintendo's true issue with having consistent release cycles is the fact that they do a poor job at establishing and retaining additional development teams.

Believe it be bait if you want but the first Zelda related game i bought was Links crossbow training
Growing up in the 90s and 2000 my parents bought me a playstation 1 and then 2. I didnt even get to go to a game shop to choose games, and it was when i moved out and got internet i finally learned of some other games and stuff. Zelda i first saw posted on Yea Forums and since buying Links crossbow Training i sometimes forget Zelda is a franchise until i see threads about it on Yea Forums.

they literally restarted development of the new metroid this year, because the game they made was not to their standard.
that takes guts and resect to the customer

Nobody outside of America cares about Metroid, and even that's pushing it. You ask any normie on the street what games Nintendo makes and it'll be Pokemon, Mario and MAYBE Zelda. Also, the recent Metroid games have been infrequent and mediocre. Animal Crossing or even FE are far more popular and better at this point, deal with it.

Attached: 1533703448943.jpg (1200x675, 265K)

>FE being better than anything nowadays
Yikes

That explains why they keep launching NSMB. It’s always new

Zelda is one of the two foundations that modern gaming was built upon, you are genuinely retarded if you think it isn’t just as culturally iconic & recognizable as Mario

Attached: 1516166379498.jpg (640x640, 34K)

> Opinions from people who don’t play video games means anything
Typical Zoomer logic

I love Metroid but it's not that popular and outside of its fanbase it's seen as quite niche. Mario Kart is probably in there though literally fucking everyone knows what that is
I reckon GTA would probably be ahead of Smash in the most iconic franchises as well. Other stuff like COD, The Sims or FIFA might be in there but they tend to be be normie stuff that's not generally respected within the gaming community

Mario
Zelda
Mario Kart
Pokemon
GTA

If it’s not popular among the gaming community then its factually irrelevant. We have polls to prove it, since Metroid was voted as a better franchise then Pokemon by well over 100k people

QUALITY > QUANTITY

I do not agree on Smash Bros and Metroid, I think there are games that are more popular than Smash Bros in overall and Minecraft may be one of these.

Metroid had a couple or more of bad games and god knows how Metroid Prime 4 will come out.

And as for the most critically acclaimed, I think Grand Theft Auto is up there, the main Zelda games on home consoles have always good critics but so does GTA whose most games are above the 90s.

Andromeda exists

> Melee is the 21st highest rated game ever in terms of combined score
> GTA doesn’t even make the top 40
> Somehow more iconic among people who actually play video games
> Implying Metroid isn’t iconic when Super Metroid made the top 6 ahead of every Mario game outside Mario 64
Jesus Sales fags are completely retarded & should be banned

ff is okay desu

Would you prefer massive day one patches and or potentially loads of glitches?

Attached: 1553260519459.jpg (1200x675, 119K)

Wrong, once again kill yourself sales are irrelevant in terms of something being iconic & popular. Smash is discussed more then anything on the entire internet by far

Attached: 614C667F-618D-4205-881C-7367209C8EC0.jpg (1644x1668, 3.56M)

>Sonic
>even remotely relevant todsy

sanic getting a live action movie this year

Because Pokemon is a highly overrated franchise, Pokemon has a huge amount of fanatics, probably more than any other franchise, that will buy the games doesn't matter what they do, Pokemon peaked at Gen 5 with BW2 and after that it went downhill yet it will always be forgiven and sell well because its Pokemon.

Game Freak didn't manage to shit out a good game that isn't Pokemon after Drill Dozer.

GF are so fucking incompetent since Mesuda and his straight path buddy took over. Morimoto should become direct of the series. And yes, GF need to chill with the game out put. We've had a main line game every 2 years this decade. A generation of Pokemon should be 3-4 years

So basically then, including Pokemon the most iconic franchises are these since they show up the most
> Pokemon
> Zelda
> Final Fantasy
> Mario
> Metroid

You talk like GTA Online isn't one of the most popular online games after many years of its original release and its still played by thousands of people.

And I don't know what are you trying to prove with that image because Smash Bros only appears on the Reddit mosaic

>FE
user you spelled Kirby wrong

Castlevania SoTN also appears in most of them, I think it only doesn't appear in one.

Metal Gear Solid also appears in most of them.

Anything can get a movie nowadays. The movie industry is 100% pure shovelware trash.
I could probably even get funds to make a movie about my last bowel movement.

GTA isn’t iconic among the gaming communtity, it’s treated the same as COD. It’s universally hated & considered garbage, The original PS2 Trilogy are the only ones that are respected

Probably taking forever to adapt to a modern game development environment

>not liking fusion
faggot

you mock them

but theyre the only ones who still has their ip being relevant

Castlevania should be replace Metroid, it appears on all of them except Japan’s list

> Somehow more iconic among people who actually play video games
The 'iconic among people who actually play video games' criteria wasn't specified. If it was then sure, Metroid is probably in the top 5 - but I think 'most iconic' needs to factor in some measure of recognition in the broader population as well as just metacritic score.
GTA has several games at 95+ on metacritic, all the games sell well, and everyone under the age of 60 has heard of it. Admittedly with GTA V it's probably slipped towards the 'COD' category of popular among casuals when a lot of the gaming community has gone off it a bit, but I don't see how Metroid could have overtaken it when there has only been one main Metroid game in 12 years, and that was on the 3DS

Iconic among gamers is the only criteria, Popularity is completely different & isn’t a factor in legacy unless your so far ahead of everything else like Pokemon which has a 70 Billion dollar lead on every other Vidya franchise. GTA has only grossed 10 Billion

List like these makes me feel like people go for the older games just to make safe bets instead of more newer ones, like IGN's list, Halo got better games than the first Halo, SMB1 is a good game but not that good anymore specially when you got 3 and World on the same list, Mario 64 got outdone by Sunshine or Galaxy and in general IGN's list is safe as fuck to not annoy anyone.

I like Famitsu list more, I do not agree on SMB1 being over 3 or Splatoon or Persona 5 but in overall it feels more honest than IGN list.

I feel like most of these list have at least a few of the most popular games as a safe pick so they agree with these things.

Metacritic is innaccurate because of paid reviews & corrupt journalism. Most GTA’s lost GOTY’s to another game (HL2, Fallout 3, TLOU, WW) despite their sales & scores. Closest thing to an accurate listing of review scores is this
> gamefaqs.gamespot.com/games/rankings
As you can see no GTA makes the top 100, whereas Metroid is at the top

>Have good IP
>Churn out games fast as possible, milking it dry and killing it in 4 years time

Why does this happen?

Pic related is just an obvious example but Sony has SO MUCH of this holy shit

Attached: patapon-listing-thumb-01-ps4-eu-27jul17.png (920x518, 251K)

Gen 7 started in 2016 user, that was 3 years ago. That's the same timespan between gens 1 and 2.

You fucked up with #5, agree with the first four though

Other M wasn’t THAT bad

It just feels like more since we've had Gen V in 2010 and we've getting Gen VIII at the end of the year

>one game by nu-Team Ninja hacks means its inconsistent
okay i guess FE is ruined because a musou nobody played, not the gacha spinoff, cancerous DLC practices the 3ds games did, or otome pandering 3H us causing

Because they don't want to run them into the ground like all the other publishers are doing with THEIR franchises that used to be big.

it really isn't, especially not in third world shitholes where people had chinese nes knockoffs instead of the real deal and played the fuck out of mario games while bootleggers couldn't put zelda on pirated cartridges
mario and pokemon are objectively a tier above zelda when it comes to recognition

Metroid is perfectly fine, it's in almost every top chart, Other M was literally the product of Japs being told they should never make a Metroid game. So the Japs proceeded to make a Metroid game. Nintendo was in such denial it was bad they """"canonized"""" her look by putting her mole/armor in smash and trying to act like nobody hates the game. Game doesn't exist to normal people.

Cursed Image

depends how you define iconic, probably a factor of these things

Consistent Quality
Mario
Zelda
Metroid
MGS
Smash

Critical Reception
Mario
Zelda
GTA
Metroid
MGS

Sales
Mario
Pokemon
COD
GTA
FF

Legacy/Influence
Mario
Zelda
Metroid
Pokemon
Smash

Broader Recognition
Mario
Pokemon
Zelda
GTA
Mario Kart

depends how much weight you give each category, and the specific games in each list are up for debate. i've ignored shit like Tetris and Minecraft although if you were autistic enough i'm sure you could make a case for either

Final Fantasy was a much bigger franchise than Zelda up until recently.

FF7 outsold OoT

until Miyamoto fucking leaves

user FE being fueled by whales doesn't making it popular as AC

So because you've been living under a rock, Zelda isn't famous. Got it.

Nice

>appears in all of them
>only SotN
>behind multiple metroid games each of them
lol no

>Yea Forums
literally agreeing with reddit and crosssite cretins shifting the opinion

Nigga literally 55 year old motorcycle riding military engineers know who Link is when I wear a Hyrule t shirt
“It’s that legend of Zelda guy’s thing”

I’d rather have some new battle Network games

>Consistent Quality

Grand Theft Auto is way more consistently quality than any of those, and I'm more of a fan of the five series you listed than GTA.

Yeah they only have what? 800 devs?
Sonly has 4000
Activision has even more

Pretty sure Andromeda was a different team, if not a different studio entirely.

My guess is they have a few smaller development teams working on one thing at a time rather than 500 shitty studios. I could be wrong though, I thought I read that somewhere although it may have been true years ago but not today

>I'd rather a sequel to a series that got six games, tons of spinoffs, multiple adaptions to other media, ended definitively, and got a spiritual successor/sequel which itself went on to have three games of its own
good for you

Sony is too greedy.
They find it cheaper to spend big reap big than have 4 games that hit 1.5-2 Million sales a pop

Because you would cry even harder about rehashes.

And is still most consistent of Nintendo franchises

Shit nigga I just like battle Network

Underrated

the games wouldn't be iconic if they were rushed

To fuel the hypetrain

Normal people know Mario, Pokemon and Sonic. The rest of your list are things that require expert knowledge, i.e. only gaymers know them.

I had an NES (really my dad's), a Genesis, n64, PS1 briefly, then GameCube and onward.

I went to toys r us and game shops n shit, had no idea the Saturn, Sega CD, 32X even existed until later in my life. In fact, the only time I heard of the Dreamcast was back in 4th grade when some kid alluded to a neighbor having it and hyping the fuck out of it.

You can manage to not know about something Uber popular. I just wish I had a Dreamcast when it was big, I've been playing the one I recently picked up nonstop

Because they rush out dogturds?

>I could probably even get funds to make a movie about my last bowel movement

They already did that, assassin's Creed movie was 2016

Seething

It's always Tetris

1 - mario of mario
2 - mario of skyrim
3 - mario of need for speed
4 - mario of street fighter
5 - ???

yeah you're probably right - i debated putting in GTA instead of MGS or Smash. even without that though, i think would easily get in to the overall top 5, given it's ridiculous popularity, high critic scores and recognition outside of gaming, as well as the games generally being very good

at least we have Dreams

Attached: littlebuggedplanet 3.png (1026x1280, 2.65M)

It used to be that you could easily churn out classics because development teams only had like twenty people at most, but those days are long gone. And considering Japanese companies usually don't bother spending millions on game development unlike Western companies, that's what you get.

Good, quick and cheap - choose two.

>Mario
>Zelda
>Donkey Kong
Who are the other two?

>Metroid
>Consistent
I wish faggot
