I think most people were upset that an obscure Pokemon like him was picked over say, Kabutops. That said, it's annoying to face such a strong character in Elite Smash. He has an insane counter, literally promotes bad play, similar to Shulk's monando. He can kill literally anyone at 0% just by spamming counter, 0 effort involved. You can screencap this post, he will be considered a top 5 character in the near future when "pros" figure it out.

The thing about Travis is that his moveset would only be partly wrestling-inspired. Travis would have been cool though. So would King.

Casting aside any "lol shill" doubt that I may have, he still wounds up being completely boring for me. The minute he fell flat on that arena on that trailer is when he fell flat to his expectations and doesn't really deliver anything other than "lol wrestling" which, quite frankly, even though it's a theme that hasn't been approached in Smash, that much I admit, certain fighters already had wrestler-like grappling skills. It's a concept that could have been unique, but at the same time, doesn't really shatter from its wrestling gimmick. It's not even a pokemon that gained enough respect, much less got popular enough to even warrant it in Smash. Its reception was REALLY fucking bad back when it was introduced. I fucking felt each and every single one of those complaints. But of course, Game Freak tried to find a way to turn their tables and make him the one with superiority competitive wise, made him appear the earliest with portrayals that make it look great compared to anyone else (the other starters) and even shoved it in the ICY movies which, of course, made people get more warmed up to it.

So yeah, there's your motive, I guess. It just feels forced. And even the character by itself? Feels kind of... rushed? The sudden clothesline, some of his attacks. Feels like they spent more time animating his fur and taunts more than anything else.

Incineroar's just a boring Pokémon, as are most Pokémon. You just look at it and you instantly know what it does. There is no room for creativity or subtlety in Incineroar. Speaking of subtlety, I just find Bowser to do the whole wrestling shtick better: Incineroar has the attitude but Bowser almost just has more moves that feel like those of a wrestler: Bowser's Back Air & FSmash have more meat to them than the entirety of Incineroar's moveset outside of Revenge Boosted Side B, and that's because of Ultimate showing it off. Everything about his design has been said before so i'll just spare you of the comparison with Tony the Tiger.

I don't actually mind incineroar but I have not encountered a single decent person who likes it. It's a shame, he's got a really cool fighting style. Although I do wish he did some of the stuff in his concept art like hitting people with chairs. Played around with him in the first couple of weeks but K. Rool was the only character I've wanted for smash since brawl, so it felt wrong to main anyone else.

I think it's mostly because many are upset that a blantant shillmon got in over their most requested characters. Smash Ultimate was all about fanservice and making dreams come true, so to see someone like Incineroar get in, while highly requested characters for the past decades like Banjo, Geno and Isaac getting the shaft, it's pretty obvious to see why fans are upset.

Personally, I wanted Rayman, so to see him actually getting less content compared to the previous game hurts.

Pokémon in Smash just aren't that interesting. Most if not all of them are not meant to be looked at individually since they just have 2 traits or so about them. This pretty much defines the basics like mobility specs, weight & so on. Then, slap moves that are part of their learnset into their specials, and bam, you're basically done. At least they're okay to play against, which is more than the FE cast.

Meanwhile, Mewtwo had TWO MOVIES, Charizard was a main character that reappeared PAST KANTO and got TWO MEGAS, and Pichu and Pikachu had several animated shorts, not to mention all the Deus Ex Machinas Pikachu got so it saved the day (bringing Ash back to life by crying, "PIKACHU AIM 4 LE HORN"). Nothing is wrong with Incineroar by himself. At worst his reveal was just poorly timed. It's the "never-everfag" part of his fanbase on Yea Forums that people hate. They have this huge persecution complex just because people bullied them during the two weeks of the Grinch Leak. Ridleyfags and Roolfags were the constant butt of jokes for years, and by this point they've moved on from the rage. I think the thing Smashfags need to accept is that Ridley and K. Rool are probably gonna be the last super big fan request characters we're gonna get.

I think it's pretty obvious what Sakurai's priority for characters are this point. Outside of cheap clones and wacky surprise reps, his criteria seems to be "be a major character from a major game franchise that's still getting games or at the very least had a game released around the time of the planning document". Pretty much every non-clone character in Smash 4 and Ultimate fit the bill, except for Duck Hunt and Piranha Plant (who were again, both meant to be "surprise characters"). K. Rool and Ridle just both had one major issue going against them (Ridley being 2big and K. Rool not appearing in his series for awhile, much making him a low priority for the last few installments), so they just needed the ballot to get that extra push to get into Smash.

The other "never evers" just aren't on their level. They're either just minor supporting characters like Ashley or Geno or protagonists of abandoned franchises like Isaac or Banjo & Kazooie. None of them really feel like characters Sakurai would consider at this point, which is why I find it absurd when people say "Oh, Waluigi is for sure guranteed for the next Smash, people whined about Ridley and K. Rool so naturally Waluigi's next!". Ignoring that those characters actually had merits outside of just being "fan requested".
