God, I wish movie games were a fraction as good as these two.
Back in my day we called Final Fantasy "fighting with words games".
JRPGs are not "movie games" and MGS1 has a good ratio of gameplay/cutscenes.
>JRPGs are not "movie games"
500 hours of dialogue and cutscenes to maybe 50 hours of gameplay would say otherwise.
>MGS1 has a good ratio of gameplay/cutscenes
See above.

you tell em', honey!
Yes, they were a mistake. FFVII led to each game since having more cutscenes, FMVs and filler dialogue. And FFVII had plenty itself. Disk 2 is basically the same filler.
This is not to say story focus is bad. I love Suikoden. But that's the point, Suikoden I and II did story, character development and pacing better than the Final Fantasy games on PS1.
best movie game of all time
Y'know this has been on my mind since I beat Final Fantasy IX. It just seems that more and more games that I hear that are "The best ever made" like Shadow of the Colossus and Final Fantasy VII are mostly books than video games. Shadow of the Colossus was more of a game yes but it seemed to have some lore that just disengaged me because of how unpolished the controls were. Final Fantasy VII, although I am only 6 hours into the game, seems to have a lot less focus put onto the game-play aspect and more of a narrative focus. Which is fine but coming to it after Banjo Kazooie and Super Mario RPG, there's just something missing here because currently Final Fantasy's story isn't doing it for me.
Yakuza 0 is absolute kino
JRPGs are movie games, nobody plays that crap for the gameplay
I like movie games desu. FFXIII is one of the best ones btw
Would Paper Mario be considered a JRPG?
>nobody plays that crap for the gameplay
*blocks your path*
>not playing nocturne for the plot
Final fantasy and metal gear aren't movie games
Just because a game has dialogue in it, it doesn't make it a movie game
Movie games are game that take control away from you because they don't want to be gamey
Did your boss ends with a fancy QTE? Movie game, is the game pretending you have control by letting you walking around while someone talk when in reality you don't? Movie game
>Did your boss ends with a fancy QTE?
FFVII's final boss literally ends with a QTE.
in these games, cutscenes are only used as intros and rewards inbetween gameplay
modern games just have cutscenes as gameplay
I legitimately play Dragon Quest, Chrono, Bravely Default and Suikoden for the gameplay. I just happen to like them for design, characters and story as well. Except Bravely, which the story sucks. But really, the appeal of playing JRPGs is they're basically an anime series you play. If you like anime, tropes and all, then you'll like JRPGs. If you don't like anime, then you'll probably hate them.
>Nocturne
>Plot
>Selecting an option is a QTE
The dumb shit I have to read on Yea Forums, why do I even bother?
