There's really no reason to go for anything other than high honor because Arthur's story is negated and made redundant by that overextended epilogue they crammed in there because they realized the story didn't actually tie up into RDR1 (it still doesn't at Endless Summer, but the epilogue is so long you just forget about that)

That's what happens with single player games. We all have a lot of fun playing and discussing it but then we all finish it and we move on. There's nothing wrong with that though because it still left an impression and we had a good time. Nobody forgot about it, we just aren't playing it anymore. It was the same thing with Spiderman and God of War.

I'll take a few weeks of actual single player fun with a defined conclusion over a never-ending slog of mediocrity that is most other forced multiplayer microtransaction and lootbox fests that we have today.

I haven't played the game yet. But honestly, I haven't been hyped to, despite loving RDR1. I loved RDR1 for everything besides the story. Exploration, hunting, random NPC events, shooting out gang hideouts, etc. And I worry this game is going to focus more on linear story. I also worry that they're going to put a bunch of DLC/online only content, which I don't want to support. And I just don't have time to play it right now.

I'll eventually get it when it's $30 and play it. But I'm not jumping up and down for it. Maybe if it wasn't a prequel to a game we already know everything about, I'd be more interested.

If you recall, discussion died for GTAV just a few months after it was released just like it has for RDR2 and it didn't start again until the re-release. Sure, the boundaries on missions are extremely limiting, but at the same time, RDR2 is not trying to be a game with revolutionary action. The aiming is terrible, most of the guns are the same, the AI is dumb and plentiful, etc.

Instead, RDR2 is all about serving up set pieces along side memorable characters. And yes, it often fails on that front too, but when it succeeds, it does so better than most other video games.

There's no way Rockstar could feasibly accomplish Jakey's pipe dream if they designed the game around open-ended missions that you can cheese. Case in point, MGSV has virtually no story content during any of its missions because the slap stick action clashes hard with the melodramatic story.

Is RDR2 even a sandbox game like GTA & RDR? I get that it's open world but it doesn't seem like people care to mess around in the world outside of missions in this particular game, like how L.A. Noire had an open world but there was zero point exploring it.

Hopped back onto my Arthur again after a few weeks, shit still feels fresh and fun as ever and boy howdy is it gorgeous in 4k. One of the best shooters of the gen for sure and the Single Player constantly changes things up in the story that it's a blast to keep replaying over and over.

I care. I'm still playing it and it's wonderfull. I took it slowly with the campaign and was trying to do as much side content as possible and still haven't 100% it. And there's so much more stuff to explore and collect past the campaign. I love this game. Don't care about the online though, 2k and R* can suck it on that front.

I'd argue the main story missions are a letdown compared to the open world side missions, unique encounters, and even random wildlife encounters. The main missions force you to complete them in only one way with no option to use to use your creativity. If a bear shows up you can run, shoot a warning shot, shoot to kill, and very unlikely but possible hope it didn't spot you and watch it kill another animal/person.

This game got boring by chapter 2, beats me why I ended up finishing 6 whole chapters. Didn't bother with the prologue.
