Have you seen that How to Train Your Dragon was a massive success in Japan? I still hate that the characters look like that. But it's obviously a design decision for Japan. If it was intended for the west, it would be a shitty live action adaptation with Marvel actors.

I want Disney to die as well. For establishing the stereotype that animation is only for kids, then killing the 2D animation industry over that very stereotype. Plus a dozen other crimes its committed from killing the Muppets/Star Wars to pushing identity politics and more.

I also agree that the variety in the west is very limited. But this is because the amount of animation being made is very limited. Basically a handful of people control the entire American animation industry. And they all got their job by pushing social politics and virtue signaling. Unlike in Japan where they have hundreds of thousands of manga authors and artists who compete with each other to get into the industry through merit.

But while all this is going on, there are still some animated films in the west which go against your mass generalization. A few Pixar films are genuinely good. I don't hate Pixar for the decline of animation. I hate Disney and all the other studios for only copying Pixar's formula. And I don't want Japan to fall into the same trap. The problem is that we as a society need to 1) Stop going to every shit movie a company like Dreamworks/Illumination makes and 2) Get over the stereotype that animation is only for kids. If we can do both of those, animation can go beyond its limitations. And a lot more Japanese animation will become acceptable to the mass market in the west, forcing Hollywood to compete with it.

Has been disproven countless times. Sugiyama doesn't have the power to block games. He owns the rights to both the Synth and Orchestrated versions, so if he could block the games, he would do it with any game. And we've not only gotten games with synth music, but also orchestrated music.

We didn't get orchestrated music with DQXI because SquareEnix was too cheap to pay for it. Not because Sugiyama was blocking it. Case in point, the Switch remake is getting the orchestrated music, for all regions.

The management in SquareEnix changed in 2014. From 2015 and on, we've gotten every DQ game localized to the west. The problem is, we had that 12 year period on the DS/Wii/3DS/Wii U where the old SquareEnix management still was in control and they gave the finger to the west. And they're not going to release those games on outdated systems, as much as I would like them to.

If you prefer story like DQXI, play Dragon Quest V or VII (ds remakes). If you prefer exploration, crafting and the skill point system in DQXI, play Dragon Quest VIII (PS2 or 3DS version).

Or you can just go back to the very first DQ game and play them all in order. That would be my best recommendation, but not everyone can get into older RPGs. Though every game from DQI-VII has a remake. Always default to the remakes.

Kingdom Hearts is arguably the most interesting Disney IP since Roger Rabbit, to be completely fair. It has little place in videogame history in comparison to DQ or Bubble Bobble, or many other Squaresoft or Enix IPs.

Look man as a Kingdom Hearts fan I'll tell you this, conceptually Kingdom Hearts could be interesting. But the Disney shit is not charming once you start dealing with Disney movies you hold no love or nostalgia for. I hated Kingdom Hearts 3 largely because I hate the selection of Disney movies.
