The sheer hubris required to believe that you're even capable of understanding a Japanese work 100% is astonishing. It's the exact opposite of English, where ambiguity is pretty minimal and sentences start sounding very strange if you intentionally try and make them ambiguous.

But no, some official ones go through a lot more work to make good localizations than people realize, but some fans work just as hard. At the end of the day, it's really the people involved that matter and how much incentive they have (be it passion or a nice paycheck) to do a good job.
