Lootboxes were literally tacked on by WB in Shadow of War, though they had very little actual impact on the game and were flat out removed later.
The real issue is that the game almost completely butchers Middle Earth lore, because the devs flat out didn't want to make a LOTR game, but WB made them. For Shadow of War they openly said it's below even fan fiction and much of the changes are done purely for the benefit of the game, and that none of it should be considered close to canon. WB tried to push some shit though.

It's a good game and I've played it a lot already through the stress test and beta. It was fast walkspeeds which leads to being able to adjust for proper punishing and blockstrings aren't super safe. These two factors put it above every other fighter this generation and most of last gen. MK11 does what other fighters don't mechanically and it's also one of the few fighters to have good netcode, something Japanese fighters never have unless an American mod/ports an old 90s/00s title
