The hype train was huge, the only bigger one I remember was for GTA V.
Fucking amazing. It was absolutely hilarious to see the INSANE amount of money and marketing that was pumped into the obvious garbage heap, and the massive armies of 10 years old clearly defective cretins shaking their little fat folds in anticipation for a sequel to a subpar game that was clearly getting even further downgraded, just because the poor sods never played a PC game before.
It was fucking hilarious to us. Back then. We had no fucking idea what it's going to do to the industry in the long run. We could even dream of it.
We were so naive back in those days.
>subpar
sour grapes
I got remembered in school for being that one kid who took off his halo 2 sweatshirt to have a halo 2 t-shirt underneath
There were always good clans you could join and the custom games would be like a dream, sometimes even modded
I remember not being able to get it the day it released, but my dad picked up a copy and gave it to me when he came back from work. I wish I could go back.
>sour grapes
You do realize that Halo CE WAS released on PC? Because "sour grapes" is a allusion to a story where someone dismisses something as a way to deal with the frustration that he can't have it. The fox being unable to reach the grapes, remember?
PC users weren't dismissive of CE because of jealousy, you silly goose. They were dismissive of it because they played it and wasn't very good. Not to mention originally misleadingly presented, but that is another story.
played through the master chief collection with my brother on heroic this weekend and i'm just curious... how come they (seemingly) put so much more effort into halo 2 compared to 3?
we finished 3 in 5-6 hrs, but 2 took us close to 12 hrs i think.
i hadn't played any of the games for over 10 years, so i pretty much forgot what the story even was, but to be honest 3 didn't feel like a game worthy of ending the trilogy.
Sequels were always hyped as fuck back then because devs pushing the available tech was actually pretty obvious to the player, the leap from one gen to the other was also mind blowing, now all we have is diminishing returns.
Hype through the roof, and the game still smashed skyhigh expectations. Ignore 3zoomers and quakeboomers.
That demo you know the one, is still one of the best demos ever shown for a game
>He's praising a graphically inferior port
the autism holy shit
>PC players didn't like Halo CE
>Halo CE still has an active PC community to this day main mods and maps for it and Yea Forums has always had nightly Halo CE threads
Fuck off newfag
CE has an active PC community of South Americans.
2 was a late gen game at the height of the franchise’s success.
>Imagine being this contrarion
Well, mostly the clearly exponentially growing graphical demands and asset production costs that were associated with transfer to HD gaming: Halo 2 was still a Xbox game, Halo 3 was a 360 title, and the shift of production values, and the importance to polish up the graphics to showcase 360's superiority was enormous. Introduction of HD gaming was the time that saw MASSIVE increase in gaming budges while simultaneously massive decrease in actual content and particularly campaign lenghts.
Also, while Halo 2 was highly anticipated, it still wasn't such a MASSIVE brand-confidence deal to afford to make mistakes. With Halo 3, Bungie was very much aware that no matter what they do, it will be an insane, world-shattering success due to brand recognition alone. And all of their investment was already covered by Microsoft so sales did not matter to them anyway.
the hype for halo 3 was absolutely insane mad lad tier
Some of my favorite shooters came out in 2004. I was hyped as fuck for Halo 2, but I had Painkiller and Far Cry to tide me over. I still feel like it lived up to the hype, it's still a blast to play. I've re-played the campaign dozens of times.
I was really nervous when I first played online. I immediately had an adrenaline rush and my hands were shaking. I had played games online before but none with voice chat like that. The first map I ever matchmade into was Containment. The big snow level.
2 was their most ambitious one. A lot of it was a shot in the dark on a strict release schedule. They had only 3 years to make it. Halo 3 was a refinement. I still prefer the feel of 2.
Spore also still has active community, mods and occasional threads around here. And the "nightly" Halo threads actually refers to the fact that it was something so god damn embarassing and looked down upon that people self-depricatingly joked about it as something you can only do in the dark, when everybody is asleep. You dumbo.
Halo CE was pretty much an inferior version of fucking Unreal that was released three fucking years prior. And looking back at it, Unreal wasn't all that amazing to begin with when we grew out of the fascination with the tech behind it.
It really just wasn't in any way impressive or interesting on the PC market.
youtube.com
The Hype was real. And despite all the controversy and let-downs, it still delivered a game with an awesome campaign and a multiplayer that got played like hell until the servers shut down.
>Seething unrealfag
Nightly Halo CE threads we're for organizing games you fucking newfag
>Yea Forums organized Halo CE games at night because they hated the game
Remember to not forget how to breath you retard
>Seething unrealfag
What part of "Unreal wasn't even that amazing" did you construe as being "unrealfag" in your seriously, seriously damaged mind again?
By that logic, I guess, Ace of Spades was an absolute fucking MASTERPIECE of gaming too.
I thought the game was a lot of fun but I found it confusing how people were so blown away by it, especially since Half Life 2 released around the same time. I guess PC gaming just wasn't that popular back then, but even the press seemed to fawn over it. I remember Game Informer giving HL2 FPS of the year and Halo 2 GOTY and thinking "wait, what?"
the online was absolutely ground breaking at the time for what was availible on consoles, you could make clans and do all sorts of things i wish halo still had.
Also the online was great, it wasn't that call of duty get experience type thing. you had a level and it went up or down whether you won or lost. it didn't matter how well you did it was just about winning.
Also there was a bungie.net feature if you linked your xbox live gamer tag and it let you review all the maches you had, where you killed where you died, who killed you, with what weapon ect. i know that doesn't sound all that cool now, but it was pretty amazing to see in 2004
Any games on the PC that had the same battle dynamics as Halo? Like human and alien weapons that all work differently, with vehicles thrown into the mix, I'm not talking about some forced scripted vehicle sections but the freedom of choosing if you want to go by foot or maybe hijack a vehicle from an enemy, coop is also a plus. Also dual wield mechanic is cool but I don't think any game has that.
The comparison people always make is Half-Life but in all honesty these games have literally nothing in common other than the first person perspective.
shame, that actually makes me a little sad
I remember getting hype watching this E3 demo
youtube.com
pretty sure it had a voice messaging and messaging system before xbox live as a whole did. originally on xbox live you could only see friend requests and game invites and you could join a voice chat room but you couldn't be in a game while you did that. in between halo 2 matches you could message, voice message etc.
Same. Still sort of bummed they changed the level design of this part.
Halo 2 Custom Games will forever and always be the peak of Halo.
>Hide & Seek
>Tower of Power
>Troy
>Bumper Cars
>Cat & Mouse
>Zombies (Which Bungie would add officially in Halo 3)
Can you imagine Infection where you had to trust people would change to the green team once they were killed by a zombie? Amazingly it worked.
Yeah it was really fun with Yea Forums at night
>Early AoS before it was ruined by updated
>Not some of the best shit I've ever played
Pick one.
The Halo community was incredibly coordinated and wellkept pre-Reach days. After Reach, people just started leaving, and by 4 things had just faded and people parted ways.
I wonder how many friends were lost the week that 4 launched...don't get me wrong, it was a good game, but it just wasn't the halo we loved
Was it Halo two or three that had the simple countdown for ads on tv? No gameplay, no picture of the game, I don't even recall it saying Halo anywhere, just the number of days till it launched.
My sisters thought it was hilarious how pumped I got as the days passed and it drew closer to launch.
>Any games on the PC that had the same battle dynamics as Halo?
Not really, most have better. Instead of having two sets of dull weapons being differentiented largely cosmetically along one line, they had a set of weapons where EACH felt distinct, and they did not limit player to two of them. Vehicles weren't all that common mostly because they suck - they sucked in Halo just as much as they sucked in the little later UT2003. That said, vehicular combat was hardly a novelty in the 2000's in PC shooters, that shit was around since Shadow Warrior. And you could always pick up one of the many, many games that actually did put focus on it, like Armed and Dangerous or Battlezone games.
PC market was more differenciated. It had games that did specific things that Halo CE mashed together better.
>Instead of having two sets of dull weapons being differentiented largely cosmetically along one line
Which game are we talking about? Doesn't sound like Halo.
>Vehicles weren't all that common mostly because they suck - they sucked in Halo
Yeah I think you're definitely confused. Vehicles dominate in Halo.
I have CE on PC and played the shit out of it. Keep coping and playing meme shit like counter strike.
The hype was insane. But it left me feeling empty because i was playing WC3 and D2 before then.
I remember microsoft paying for fucking getting the making of documentaries aired during the evenings in my small scandinavian country.
Cant imagine what the marketing budget was like.
I remember being home sick from school that day. My dad was a total bro and came back with the steel case version oc the game. I got to play all day before my friends.
Do you want me to help you get the stick out of your ass
i only played the first; dont even know the story line to the rest of them...ill never forget the final level, trekking through PoA, then setting off the ridiculously huge explosion and the music that played as chief removed his helmet. OH and first encountering the Flood....shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.
I've yet to see another game with more baseless rumors spread on the internet prior to release. Everyone had so many theories as to what the game had that anyone following even 1/4th of them would have ended up feeling strangely disappointed in the final product.
Halo 2 was still pretty mind blowing though, despite its shortcomings. The change in graphics on the same platform was an unheard of thing back then, and they added in so many features. It's still one of my favorite sequels to date.
As if PC gaming was so good in the early 2000s. Anything that wasn’t Blizzard or Source was ass.
made me want a single shot BR so fucking bad FUCK
It absolutely did, and that games online made everything that had "good online" on the ps2 look like a joke. Socom, killzone ect.
I really and truly do believe that at the time of it's release, halo 2 was one of the most ambition console games ever
>zombies on foundation; everyone holes in one room and pushes the block things to block the door
>hide and seek on ivory tower
>super bouncing and glitching out of levels, sometimes with bombs and trolling until other team quit
>launches ghosts to the top of headlong
>spending hours all night with a team trying to break out of levels
i want to go back
>Anything that wasn’t Blizzard or Source was ass.
Is this a joke?
Vietcong
Mafia
Tribes 2
Nolf 2
Tribes 2
Splinter Cell
Deus Ex
Quake 3 Arena
Serious Sam
Red Faction
Undying
Flashpoint
Hitman 2
Jedy Academy and Knight
Early Battlefield games
Riddic
Far Cry
Painkiller
And I'm literally limiting myself just to first and third person action games you fucking idiot.
Early 2000's were the end of the PC gaming era for fuck sake. What the HELL is wrong with you Halo faggots? Who has done this to you?
Most of those games are trash mate. Go make your own thread
I remember the first time I drank the liquid cocaine also known as mountain dew game fuel.
>Halo 2
>hype
yeah no, I wanted GTA:SA.
fuck off with this gay fps for dumb people.
We've had enough 3 threads for you readit, were talking about 2 here.
Yep.
Seriously. There is something very, very special about Halo fans. I'm not sure what it is. The games aren't even that bad to explain this shit. But my god... Halo really does attract the absolute worst trash of the trash among humans.
I'm once again remembering how we watched the little fucking spastics shaking in anticipation for Halo 2 and I'm starting to realize... it does actually make sense.
I'd feel sorry for you, but I think disgust is stronger than pity this time.
>me and friend stayed up all night on a weekend to get to the scarab gun
>when we finally get the banshee to the despawn point without it despawning i fly it up to get the scarab gun
>decide to do a 360 while shooting
>so tired i aim at the floor and kill us both
>checkpoint put us back at the despawn point with no banshee
>posting in thread about a game you dont like
you like the worst gta btw
it was like a prototype for what xbox live would be in 2005 on the 360. want to see what that's like a year before the 360 comes out? get halo 2.
will xbox scarlet be backwards compatable?
I want the MCC but I ain't buying a xbone this late.
how old are you?
you speak of halo 2 like you would asking your grandpa what ww2 was like
>you are this mad about people liking a game
Maybe all that talk of people with a problem is projection on your part? Who the fuck played Nolf, Undying or thinks Painkiller, Far Cry 1, or Mafia are any good?
All the games you listed don't have an ounce the depth that Halo brings. Go clean the cum our of your keyboard.
MCC in it's current state is trash. Reach is a broken game,
Crackdown 2 devs are porting broken Reach to PC and you idiots are hyped about this. Sad.
literally any nintendo fanbase makes the halo fanbase look like they have master degrees in theoretical physics
Reach was the best Halo. Only reddit hates it.
>MCC in it's current state is trash.
why
It's not better than 1 or 2, but its the best after those.
3/zoomers love 3 so it makes sense reddit hates it
19
>encountering the Flood
i almost felt betrayed when that happened as a kid. thought i was just playing a sci-fi shooter and suddenly it's a horror game which is something i (still) avoid because i'm easily spooked, but fighting off wave after wave of flood in the library has to be one the most intense and memorable experiences in gaymen for me.
Great campaign, yes. Absolute dog shit multiplayer. Get to fuck.
Reminder
>Halo 3 had random bullet spread that increased the more you fired with automatic weapons, it just didn't show you via the reticle
>The Halo 3 BR had random spread on the third shot of a burst
>Nobody cared
>Halo Reach made the RNG spread visible via the reticle
>REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
There was a ton of hype. I didn't get to play it on release because I only had a PS2 but everyone was talking about it. I mostly played it at friends houses but I got plenty of exposure. It lived up to a lot of my expectations in most areas. The things I was disappointed with were
>the terrible cliffhanger
Its been beaten to death but its the truth.
>new pistol
I wasn't expecting the anti material canon from the first game but damnit the new pistol was just sad.
>Brute Shot
Over time I grew to respect it and now I love it but I was so underwhelmed by it in multiplayer at launch. Now I love the damn thing.
>No sidewinder map
My favorite map from CE and it was absent. Still is mostly. Though Avalanche in Halo 3 is sort of a spiritual successor to it.
>No missions where you get to kill marines as the arbiter
I thought that was lame.
Still a fantastic game and I loved it dearly.
Halo 2 was my favorite
>nobody cared
Plenty of people cared and criticized it. It's only casuals who didn't, but their opinions on game design are meaningless anyway.
I'm not watching your half-hour video.
Okay, reddit user.
You're trying too hard to fit in. Make an actual argument next time instead of posting some literally who's video.
not him, and i only played through it once, but framedrops or just consistently low fps depending on the game plus bugs that stops you from progressing on levels were frequent issues i had.
>halo 2 multiplayer
>bad
*superbounces over you*
>terrible cliffhanger
This is such a forced meme by idiots who have nothing else to say. Stop pretending that an exciting tease for the next game is bad, it was an excellent way to end the game. Don't pretend that you thought 2 was the final game or that the campaign was too short.
Pistol was not as good as 1 but it was still good because it was designed for dual wielding.
They really, really don't, actually. Nintendo kids can be bizarre, I swear I'll never understand the fucking weirdness in shit like the god damn Smash obsession, but I've never seen anything as bad as Halo fans. Nintendo fanbase largely lives in their own little surreal world, with their weird obsessions. Halo fans are just... a different level of stupidity. They are weirdly... spiteful and incredibly flippant relative to how fucking massively out-there are their claims. I've never seen a Nintendo fanboy try to straight up lie - in the most painfully easy-to-prove way - in defense of their games. Neither have I seen anyone call fucking Adagio for Strings "boring american hollywood wannabe orchestra". Or go out of his way to actually claim the fucking golden era of PC games were all shit.
Nintendo kids are incredibly detached, but Halo fans are really just... massive fucking shameless cunts. And that is a hell of a lot worse.
I remember being so disappointed in the release of Halo 2 all because of an issue of EGM. It went on to talk about how environments would be destructible, the elite's would be fast, dangerous, flank you, and could even climb walls, etc.
It kept listing all this shit that Halo 2 would be only for none of it to be true.
Fuck that article.
Online was fantastic. Then people found exploits with the BR (and other weapons) and it basically turned into the Melee of Halo games. If you wanted to win a match, you needed to bxr or bxb your way to the top.
Halofags like their favorite Halo, and nothing else. They don't even like other halofags.
You zoomers have low attention spans, you need youtube chipped and chopped.
I got an old Xbox working and my local game store is selling halo 2 for 15 bucks. Is that a good price or should Iook elsewhere?
This reads like some contrarion twat who played quake and doom and thinks that anything that isn't those two games isn't a real FPS.
It was huge until people played the campaign.
>If you wanted to win a match, you needed to bxr or bxb your way to the top.
So?
Talking about Reach, dumbo.
you are the only one in this thread that is being a retard by posting off topic shit. i'd say halo fans are a step above you so fuck off.
It was fucking nuts dude. Going to the Halo 2 midnight release was one of the hypest moments of my life as a young teen
That is also not my experience: I've seen absolute majority of Halo fans also turn out to be pretty damn obsessive Oblivion / Fallout 3 fans, often very spiteful towards NV curiously enough. Though when you think about it, it actually makes a lot of sense. Generally they tend to have fond memories of the X360 era games and the whole... transformation that time meant for videogames.
Remember how TF2 was during the golden age?
That's how Halo 2 and 3 were, but the entire time. It was fucking incredible.
(You)
>top tier strats in an fps are run up and melee
Its not garbage how again?
>Nobody cared
I did
I've literally given list of like 20 different shooters from between 2000-2003, so I am really not sure what gave you that impression.
But I'm going to guess it's the same logic that makes you faggot think "Unreal wasn't that great" translates to "I'M AN UNREAL FAN!"
This raises a very interesting question, given how much of the posts around here boil down to "STOP SAYING BAD THINGS ABOUT OUR GAMES, YOU CAN'T DO THAT!"
In all fucking sincerity:
WHY THE FUCK AREN'T YOU PEOPLE ON REDDIT RIGHT NOW?
I don't mean that as an insult. It's just that that fucking place was SPECIFICALLY made for people like you, it has hundreds of thousands of people with similar taste to yours, and it has precisely the tools to shut down anyone you don't like you clearly need so much.
What the everloving fuckface has caused you to wash up here? Here, of all fucking places?
My friend rented a fucking Hummer to go pick up Halo 2
More of the glitches end with shooting than end with a melee.
This is why Halo 2 Anniversary is peak Halo. Literally the only downside is that it doesn't have all the Halo 2 maps.
If you're going to talk about games from the era, they're kinda just catered to people who wanted that specific thing and not much else. Halo had a broader appeal in terms of its pacing (way faster than battlefield/spinter cell/etc), and it was easier to get into than any of the games on that list save Q3A. The thing halo had over Q3A was the matchmaking. Can't do splitscreen on a PC, LAN parties were a pain in the ass and online matchmaking was developed without a real framework in mind.
>pc babby gets bodied in halo because he can't handle all the elements of the combat
i'd pay $15 no hesitation, but yeah you can get it for less
AAAA HAAAYYY AYYY EEHHHHH
Its Forge made Reach look colorful.
you really are not familiar with nintendo fans or are completely delusional about it. they will regularly spend entire threads not talking about a game at all and will instead go on for hundreds of posts about how they ship certain characters or how they want certain characters to do [insert sexual fetish here] to them or any other flavor of off topic shitposting. they are up there with porn type weebshit except with those games you can understand it. that's who the game is aimed at. with nintendo games it's the same kind of threads except the games are aimed at children. this isn't even remotely comparable to whatever inaccurate oversimplified biased outdated view you have of halo fans.
grow up. halo fans did. why can't you?
And it only does anything when you are within commando lunge distance. Otherwise it doesn't do shit. And it gave you higher dps then someone shooting you unless they are a mile away with a long range gun the other option shooting outside the effective range of there gun doing nothing to your shield and giving you ample time to charge when they are reloading.
You can just charge though gunfire and win if your opponent isn't going to melee cancel and win the fight. Thats poop tier shooter design bro.
They have a 30 day return policy so I figure it might be worth the extra cash for that but I'll do a little shopping around I suppose. Thanks for the reply.
people were pretty darn excited for it and while the campaign turned out to be a disappointment for a young me back then, the multiplayer was plenty fun (people were great too.) in retrospect the campaign is pretty sweet, even the ending doesnt bother me that much
i finally got my own pc late 2005 and never brought 360, so the first halos have a special place in my heart. somewhat sad that i missed the halo 3 train though
Just double shot, then.
Halo doesn't need to come to PC.
Ya ok you go ahead and call your autoaim melee lunge "skill", I don't mind. Ill only make fun of you for it.
This entire post sounds like it was written by someone who didnt take their schizo meds
>names like 4 games
>I gave you like 20 though
But hey man, you tried to imply an absolutely forgettable 6/10 game like shadow warrior is on the same tier as Halo CE so I just assume you're a dumbshit.
I did not list those games as a direct comparisons, it was a reply to the INSANE faggotry of a kid claiming there were virtually no good games for PC in that era.
That said, your point is basically that Halo pandered to wider audience at the expense of actual quality of what it offers. And I do agree. But that isn't exactly the praise, it's literally my original point, that to anyone accustomed to PC gaming, Halo was subpar, sacrificing any actual outstanding qualities for accessiblity and wider and younger audience appeal. Which made the hype for the sequel among largely the console crowd utterly baffling, and obviousness of how easy it is to manipulate people by throwing more money on the marketing so damn baffling and in a way, amusing.
Which was my original point. That still clearly stands.
>goes into a narrow short hallway that makes up literally everything that isnt a sniper lane in halo
>get out dps'd by a melee cancel
Garbage is garbage
>pc fags are STILL mad
THEY FORM A LINE, ONE AT A TIME, READY TO PLAY
(I CAN'T SEE THEM ANYWAY)
NO TIME TO LOSE, WE'VE GOT TO MOVE, STEADY THE HELM
(I AM LOSING SIGHT AGAIN)
FIRE YOUR GUNS, IT'S TIME TO RUN, BLOW ME AWAY
(I WILL STAY, UNLESS I MADE)
AFTER THE FALL, WE'LL SHAKE IT OFF, SHOW ME THE WAY
ONLY THE STRONGEST WILL SURVIVE
Custom servers in CS:GO and TF2 are kinda dead so I hope gaylo brings them back
>gets shit on for poor positioning
>blames the game
Only thing garbage is your skill m8
This.
All the good Halo games are already on PC
who here high impact halo?
I love how so many anons on Yea Forums think they are oh so hardcore but cant even articulate what they dont like about a game other than "HE KILLED ME GAME BAD REEEE"
So you either run though the sniper lanes and get killed with no counter unless you have your teams sniper or get fucked by melee in an fps.
Ya position is what the issue is here.
a good song ruined by the forced deathmetal roar he has to put in all of his fucking songs
>point out melee is better then shooting in halo unless you have your teams sniper.
>you are not saying what you don't like!!!
And I'm the one with marbles missing
But PC doesn't have 3, ODST or Reach.
If you're close enough that you're being meleed when that wasn't the desired outcome, you have poor positioning skills.
>tfw just now remembering the valora version
I just want to let you know that you are beautiful, user. Thanks for this comment, restored my faith in humanity.
This
Constitutes as "four".
See this shit? See the shit above? You don't see shit like this with ANY other fanbase than Halo.
I know that Nintendo people are freaks lost in incomprehensible universe, but even they would not do shit like this. This is an ABSOLUTELY unique type of insanity and faggotry. It's beyond any fucking human comprehension. I can more understand a person being obsessed with imaginary friends because his life is hard, but this shit... this shit takes balls. You really have to have special dedication to be this dumb and annoying and fucking proud of it.
did any of the rock songs actually play in game besides FOLLOW
You're the one making excuses for all of this, so yes.
take your meds
I think Blow Me Away played after the Mjolnir Mix of the main theme in the credits.
Stay mad pc babby
Dont forget to grab your trainer for sekiro :)
Removing classic gen was the start of AoS's downfall. Change my mind.
PC fags are the only ones playing 2 in 2019 though
Anywhere you can position yourself to not get melee'd is just waiting your turn at the sniper spawn in your base. Other than that you can hang out in your teams sniper lane and kill the one guy your sniper didnt see and is most likely a bad for going in the enemy's sniper lane and not taking one of the congested flanks that are too small for gunfire to outdps a melee cancel.
>pointing out the meta in an fps is sniper or melee cancel with no inbetween is now making excuses
Garbage is garbage
it played during the one of the later missions on the covenant ship, in a big room
>looks like dogshit
>gay spartan 4’s playing spartan 2 dress up
>elites look fucking retarded
>DUDE HEXAGONS ARE FUTURISTIC LMAO
>no button combos
>hitmarkers and grenade indicators
its just a washed down version of halo 2 that looks worse and you’re a faggot for thinking otherwise
>Cosmetic shit that doesn't affect anything
>Cosmetic shit that doesn't affect anything
>Cosmetic shit that doesn't affect anything
>Rightfully patched out bug shit
>Cosmetic shit that doesn't affect anything
Meanwhile it has new superior renditions of classic Halo 2 maps made by the original Texas-based ex-Bungie staff who created the originals in 2004.
>Seriously fucking complaining that garbage like BXR was removed when all it did was make sure the Battle Rifle was the only weapon people used
Eat my ass.
You're making up excuses every time you're told to play around it.
>doesnt affect anything
>makes the game painful to look at
>enemies and player blend into background
play the game retard
Grenade hitmarkers affect the game greatly. They let any sort of explosive give you information about player positions, and promote spamming them around corners fishing for information.
it gave more individual power to players who had the skills to pull it off. whats wrong with that?
Balance the contrast on your TV, you inept retard. I play H2A almost exclusively and seeing other people isn't an issue in the slightest.
The BR is going to be the only weapon people use regardless of there being a BXR or not.
>implying I want to play halo
Im telling you garbage game design is garbage. I dont care if you are the best checkers player with rainbow jumps being aloud; what I am telling you is that rainbow jumps are retarded and you should feel bad for thinking its a good mechanic.
>Skill
>BXR
Are you serious right now? The name of the move is the button combo.
>Shoot
>Reload
>Cancel reload with a melee attack
My 13-year-old brainlet self could do this flawlessly. It was still bad for the game.
>My 13-year-old brainlet self could do this flawlessly.
Apparently not, since you couldn't even get the actions in the right order.
I watched that halo 2 demo every fucking day. Gotta say the final product was dissapointing as fuck.
Sue me, it's 3am. It's the reverse order and I fucked it up.
>Make sure mag is missing a few rounds
>Melee
>Reload
>Shoot
i think you’re just retarded bro, theres a difference between doing it alone and doing it mid match. you still didnt tell me whats bad about giving the individual player more power, or how its bad for the game.
holy shit look at this fucking moron
Sounds like you put hyped it to an extent it could never live up to. Any game is susceptible to that no matter how good it is.
but that's right though. mag needs to be missing rounds for the reload animation to play so you can cancel it. you can't reload with a full mag, so you can't bxr.
>how its bad for the game.
>melee attacks are meta in an fps
>first person shooter
>shooter
>how is it bad for the game?
BXR didn't work if you were missing any rounds in your magazine. You don't cancel a reload animation because you never play one to begin with.
>melee+shooting is meta in MELEE RANGE
fucking brain dead faggot shut the fuck up
Comparatively there really was no other game like it for consoles but maybe the GTA games. Although I don't remember ever seeing news about people waiting in line for GTA back then.
However Halo 2 fails in comparison to the massive hype that was Pokemon generation 1 or even 2 for that matter.
Halo 2 actually made me re-buy an Xbox. Originally sold it since I thought it would only be a Halo CE machine which for maybe a year or two it pretty much was but it does have great games to play.
Understanding the mechanics of the BXR are irrelevant. You press B, you press X, you press the right trigger. Why are you faggots arguing semantics? Do you think BXB or YY reload cancelling was hard as well?
but thats wrong you fucking retard holy shit look it up right now
Says the man who uses an autoaim commando lunge that lines up his next shot with no effort at all. When the only other range in the game is hope you brought a sniper range otherwise you are just a fish in a barrel.
Lmao
(you)
>no rebuttal
Thanks for giving me the you are right and I concede (you). Glad you learned somthing here today.
When you over-simplify everything, nothing sounds difficult.
everything you said was wrong which tells me you’re just baiting
you dont know how bxr works
what makes me a fish in a barrel outside of melee range? its not like everyone but me has a sniper?
you clearly never played halo 2 and just want (you)’s
so heres your (you)
ITT people think BXR, BXB, and YY are overpowered mechanics.
Name a map with sightlines longer then 30 meters that are not also within sight of a sniper pearch, if not within eyeshot of sniper spawn. Go ahead Ill wait
It really is that simple, friendo. I can YY reload in my sleep and that was probably the "hardest" of the bunch because the timing was the most strict. Too slow and you just end up swapping weapons.
DEFEND EARTH!!!!!!! kill the Covenant
It was basically the Modern Warfare 2 of its time, teens and adults alike all lining up outside game stores for the big release like we used to have before digital became the convenient method for all. 2004 was a crazy year for gaming, man.
those fucking feels!!!
what exactly does that prove?
FUCK HALO MCC for making Miranda look like an old lady and not doing justice to her Halo 2 and 3 model!!
Pretty chill. I played a lot of rainbow six 3 and ghost recon on my sexy xbox. Was also having routine sex at the time in my youth so yeah.
My god Halo 2. My favourite game ever. I remember afternoons playing with my friends when I was a kid. That fucking Blood Gulch map. I can't wait to play it again on my PC.
The instrumental version of Blow Me Away plays
First time I actually pre-ordered a game
fuck 343 for all eternity
take me back
Oh no no no, Reach was the reason why Halo started to die.
take me FORWARD
I took my friends vintage world war 2 uniform to the midnight release of Halo 2 and larped as a call of duty guy talking shit on halo. Almost
regretted it because I didn't expect there to be a thousand people there, but it was fun as hell.
Once I got everyone worked up into a frenzy of booing and jeering, I took challengers on the big projector screen Halo 2 setup they had going in
the mall. Bet peoples places in line on 1v1 matches, since they had no reason to suspect I ever even played Halo. Cleaned house 25-0 on
every challenger because I'd already been playing the pirated french copy that was circulating for two weeks and knew the maps. I
then claimed my copy and revealed I had never even played a call of duty game besides the first one.
I didn't even plan any of this. I was just drunk, high and thought it would be funny.
FACE THE GRUNTY PUNISHMENT
What happens if MCC on PC does not revive Halo Yea Forums? Can we say for sure this series is dead then? Halo games should be going strong well after release. There is zero reason people shouldn't play games like the mp of H2 or H3 the same way they do Counter-Strike or TF2 many years after. If not then Halo is absolutely dead just like arena shooters are.
My gf and I had a ps2 with a ton of games at the time, and she couldn't wrap her head around me wanting to dump all that shit off at funcoland just so we could get an xb before halo2 dropped. It wasn't just a game, it was a moment in time where competitive online gaming officially came to the living room.
It was the first time in video game history so many people skipped work to play it.
Unless Gaylo Infinite is a super hit, yeah, it's dead.
Halo 2 and 1 were downgraded graphics-wise on PC compared to Xbox.
halo 2 on xbox had such bad texture load in
it put unreal 3 engine to shame
It felt like the Xbox was finally on firm ground gains the PS2. Absolutely no game there could rival Halo 2. But the PCtists were always comparing it to Half Life 2. Even though that game was nothing alike other than being a fps.
The cliffhanger ending left people a bit disappointed tho.
>thousands of grown men and probably three women
I went to the store to buy the metal case CE and I was so excited I lost my wallet in the store and made an employee look for it with me. I was an embarrassment of a human being then just like I am today.
Halo 2 didn't last too long on top for XBL did it? Looking back its time on top was minuscule. By 2006 people were on Gears I think so H2 was second place.
probably
it was real. i remember every kid talking about it in school, all the magazines talked about it too. i pre-ordered (first and only time i did) and skipped school to go pick it up and spent all day playing.
pretty fucking disappointing when i finished it in one day, ended in a cliffhanger, and because i live in mexico, the fucking thing had spanish dub and no way to change it.
i still think it's a good game tho.
That would be about 2 solid years on the throne, 1 more year than what Halo 3 lasted in the no.1 spot.
Not true actually. Halo 3 got a few years as well despite COD being around. Halo 3 actually traded wins back and fourth with COD for XBL dominance.
It IS true actually. The only reason it eventually got back to number 1 was because WaW split the COD playerbase.
This site tells a different story.

I also cannot find it again but I do remember seeing charts even where some weeks or perhaps it was months had CoD on top where as others had Halo 3. However Halo 3 was on top more often than the CoD games until MW2 dethroned it for sure going into 2010.
What a legend
they were fun games, idk why you have to be such a lil bitch user.
Is this Project Cartographer or consoles?
A lot hate some posters have against console games is because they didn't have friends or siblings to play with. No fun memories to have nostalgia for.
this shit was so fucking fun. idk if we'll have that again
>This site tells a different story
You're correct, it tells a completely different story since my chart was weekly and yours are annual and don't negate mine.
>I do remember seeing charts even where some weeks or perhaps it was months had CoD on top where as others had Halo 3.
Yes, during the summer/fall of 2008 it was a back and forth between both with H3 winning for the most part and then COD4 taking it more consistently in the weeks leading up to WaW. After that, WaW was at 1 for a couple of months, then H3 took it back again around mid-2009 up until MW2 came out and robbed the spot forever.
PC
i played through the halo 4 campaign today and it's obvious 343 has no understanding of what made the original trilogy fun to play. haven't played the multiplayer but i would be surprised if that wasn't the case there as well.
>soap opera tier writing and dialogue
>objective markers and grenade indicators
>huge red markers on enemies if you take too long killing them
>replaced all gun/vehicle sounds
>sprinting
>powerups
>long ass melee animations
>cortana looking like some 3/10 inbred trailertrash with buckteeth
>yellow subtitles
i don't see how they could possibly redeem themselves
>I love because reddit hates it
reddit is garbage but you're no better contrarian, Reachnigger. You know who else like Reach, trannies, I guess you are one.
I was too poor for an Xbox so I just listened to friends rave over it. One day I tried to act like I played it then got my shit pushed in when they called me out on it.
Fucking lol.
I had to buy mine with my sister. Each paid half with the money we had saved (200 each). She barely even played the console, her favorite game was DoA Xtreme Beach Volley because you collected bikinis in that game.
>soap opera tier writing and dialogue
Just like Halo 2, the one I liked the least in the original trilogy, the only reason even put the campaign above Halo 4 is because at least the Chief levels and story were good.
>And I'm the one with marbles missing
you're spending time here arguing with us.
time to reflect
Yes but the charts I was thinking of was from some site that reported it, can't remember since it was a long time ago but it gave like the full breakdown on everything in some nice clear pictures. Halo 3 didn't just get beat though like so many seem to think CoD did to Halo. Annual would show though that overall Halo was getting played by more people the most.
There is nothing wrong with sprint in Halo. What ruined Halo was armor abilities not sprint.
>Flashpoint is the same kind of game as Halo
>links to post that was not in our reply chain at all and could have been from anyone
Calm down hyperfaggot.
While Reach isn't the best Halo game that multiplayer trailer was amazing. Perhaps the best trailer for a game I ever seen.
Halo is dead, Long live Destiny!.
Every. Single. Thread. Almost verbatim. How many times have the same handful of holdouts been soundly, resoundingly btfo'd only to just try again some other day in the hopes that old lies look truer to new eyes? And when will they figure out that this board doesn't have a high enough turnover for that shit to work?
Launch night was amazing. Got home around 12:45 est, jumped online with everyone else who had just gotten home. It was awesome trying out the different game modes, talking with everyone in the pregame lobby how cool all the new stuff was. Nobody cared too much about scoring/winning (that first night,) just having fun exploring the maps, trying out different dual wield combos, etc.
It was a blast.
If my young ass could have gotten the same tattoo of the "2" that that one guy did, I would have.
That was my hype level.
Imagine if you did
It all started with the orange sticker
>DO NOT SELL OR OPEN TIL 11/09/04
That damn orange sticker
I loved this and the WoW version
flicking through my metal case after seeing this lads
love how 2 expanded on the covenant so much
Mine got rusty. I ended up throwing it away.
mine is still alright even though i spilled pop on it at one point. the plastic sleeve still has some dried up coke or something in the creases. has some dents in it too. battle tested.
You are correct
>being differentiented largely cosmetically along one line,
My dude literally every weapon in Halo serves a distinct purpose. Even the Fuel Rod Gun, the most obvious "clone" weapon, has gravity-based arcing which means it's significantly worse for anti-air and very good at flushing people from behind cover.
Mine didn't had a chance, my house didn't had a decent isolation and it rains a lot where I live. A lot of my games ended up in bad shape with time.
