While being worse as a launcher and having worse support than any other games company before them, their long-term business plan is also really fucked up.
By literally bribing devs to keep their games off Steam, and offering a better cut, they're banking on Steam getting starved of games. Once Steam has no games, everyone will have to make the switch to Epic Games Store. If this happens, Steam will eventually die out.
When (and if) Steam dies, Epic Games will raise their cut to the industry standard of 30%, and stop paying for exclusivity deals. And just like that, Epic Games has established market dominance. Customers and devs alike will end up with a launcher/storefront with worse security, worse prices, worse support, and only a fraction of the features Steam offers for both customers and developers. It's the China way of doing business.
