There's a long stretch between the desert and the big ocean where you can evolve the desert pokemon and make them useful. Once Trapinch evolves he's not even weak to water anymore.

The one thing I remember most about gen 2 was that feeling of adventure
Like most of the time I felt like I was far away from home out in the wilderness catching Pokemon
Gen 3 had less of that but I'm a sucker for tropical settings so it still holds a very special place in my heart
And gen 4 had mystery and the up in graphics was exciting back then(it's kind of lost it's charm nowadays) also I have this fond memory of getting a diamond and pearl Pokedex guide book from bestbuy and being amazed by the new evolutions for Magmar and electabuzz etc.
All in all gen 2 3 and 4 both gave me feelings I haven't felt with newer gens
