Unless youre a huge title like FGO or GBF, i dont see how this could ever make more money than a regular game that sells a bunch of copies. A normal single player game will cost much more money to make and get at most a million people (only a few blockbusters a year will get multimillion sales on single player games) to pay $40-50 for it once. Then you have to spend at least a year or two to make another one.
A free to play mobile game made on unity costs a fraction of that to make, has same amount of people spending $40-50, but they do it every month. There are also millions who spend less, but still something. You also don't have to make another game, just invest a small portion of your earnings each month to make updates to keep the whales entertained.
