Lets discuss a game that did its unique genre SO WELL, that nobody has tried it again since
What even
Hotline Miami? Hotline Miami.
The few games like it that have even been released are fangames, and the ones that have become their own thing in the first place have become an entirely different genre of game. (cough cough midnight animal)
There's more HM clones than 1st person brawlers tho
>so well
Command and Conquer renegade
.
Is this backwards compatible yet?
Nigga I dont even know WHAT game that is. EXPLAIN
Breakdown
I dunno, zeno clash and dark messiah were pretty good
Please post em, is mr shifty good?
That game was really gross, hated the art style of it. So disturbing.
>bald, buff alien men with rippling muscles
>gross
Okay faggot
Dungeon Keeper, sort of.
Did you play past the first hour of the game retardo?
dark messiah is really fucking annoying but also has some fun parts. Zeno Clash is based and really fun and a super unique world
Diablo 2, others just fucked up big time making clones of it so its not same genre anymore
I find it to be the other way around. zeno clash gameplay gets really annoying but I agree I love the surreal world. is zeno clash 2 a lot better?
Metroid Prime NOBODY ELSE has made a 3D metroidvania, every one has been 2d pixelshit.
>leaping ten feet into the air and going full retard on a room for of enemies after you inject yourself with the serum in the lab
The ending was pure kino as well.
well 2 is worse in gameplay but the surreal world is dialed up to 10, definitely play it if you enjoy that aspect of the game. and idk, zc was just super satisfying to me the full way through, while dark messiah got very tedious and had some really dumb encounters that just weren't fun. Both had terrible VAs but in zc they were endearing esl Chilean friends and family of the devs and in dm it was camp to the point of being annoying, especially that fucking girl in your head goddamn, hated her so much by the end of the game lmao
breakout didnt age well at all, first person hand to hand combat was a bold attempt but this game had some serious problems. mirrors edge is the closest comparison that did it better.
best thing about dm was the weird rope bow stuff, but they quickly forgot how to use it well and then just stopped making it useful altogether
maybe I will replay, thanks
I like those devs
same, ACE Team are cool. They're nearly finished a project, deep in another and planning a third apparently, so im hype for what they're gonna bring to the table this year
Fuck off nigger, the game achieves exactly what it needs to especially for being such a story oriented experience
This is opinions but Mirror's Edge is way less fun than Breakdown. I have never in my life felt as powerful in a game as in Breakdown when I get an upgrade and previously unbeatable enemies immediately turn into ragdolls that I can just backhand into a wall like nothing. Such a good feeling.
>rose coloured glasses
>le ebin buzz buzz words
He's also a reddit fag, what a shocker
>That slow progession of upgrades against Solus
>One of the most praised systems in video game history
>Only a forgettable Assassin's Creed game has half heatedly tried to copy it
I don't understand how the Nemesis System could fall by the wayside like this, is it because you kinda have to be bad at the game to get the whole effect of it
Is this one any good? It was at my local shop and I was eyeing it. Also this game.
Someone needs to git gud
Dont open this, Derrick!
Just run!
I wish Pat and Woolie would play this. Everyone looks like a DMC character and they would get their ass blown out at the mid game twist
the game's reception on here was muddled somewhat by the very overt viral marketing campaign which backfired
shame they couldn't just let the game speak for itself or market traditionally
Whats the twist?
I thought that was for Shadow War and not Shadow of Mordor, though most of the complaints was because one of the characters was black (typical and probably marketers) and Micro-transactions practically being necessary for victory(actual legitimate complaints, notice how after the game dropped these were the only complaints left)
Ape Out is the best one in a while
Katana Zero and Bloodroots both look promising
youtu.be
youtu.be
this so much, Nemesis system is a brilliant idea
the game isnt hard lol
i tried to play this game for the first time earlier this year and it fucking blew, HARD, why did people like it again? It was so shallow and I was never given a reason to give a shit about anything + you can easily kill hordes and hordes of orcs by stealthing and just running around and chopping and jumping and hiding, what do anons
I think its that. Its a little disheartening when your final rival is a literal who picked out of a bag
Zeno Clash?
didn't you read the thread? Good taste tho
Powerslave for the Sega Saturn did it before Prime
They really needed more ways to interact with the Orcs apart from kill/be killed by them. A Batman/Red Hood or similar crime game would give you a chance to get involved with the internal politics of a criminal org
>Convince the less evil of the gangsters to betray the more violent/sadistic ones
>Bribe guys to lead targets into traps
>Bribe guys to sell other shitty weapons or show up "late" for reinforcements
>Targets should be constantly getting stronger and stronger off screen and independent of the player
Lament of Innocence you cuck
mirrors edge sucks balls dude
Lament of Innocence is shit tho
never said it was good either
Ok
Google Fight Knight
Kings Bounty?
Breakdown gameplay> Fight Knight
This isn't even a question
What about space station silicon valley? Really weird n64 game about switch bodies, I dont think I've played a game like it ever since.
there are thousands of 4x games
Yeah came out on XB1 last year, tempted to get it
Midnight animal saddens me to this day and makes me wish for the end of weeaboo shit.
I've heard some of the Darksiders games are similar to Zelda and Metroidvanias
good game user
I remember playing the demo of breakdown, kinda janky especially the shooting but the full body awareness was impressive I remember the demo had a section you cimb up in a cave and swing on bars or something the motion was pretty disorienting
this game
2>1>3
I agree
Maybe total war games count. People complain about them a lot, but nobody else has really made something that does both the scale and control of the real time battle layer and has a campaign layer that isn't an afterthought.
For Honor is unique but broken.
Amazing game. surprisingly comlex, and fun as fuck.
that is what the fans say but the darksiders games are awful. they are low rent god of war clones with stupid block puzzles. the second one has a half assed diabloesque loot system tacked on. i never touched the third.
FEVER!!!!
youtube.com
take a look at redie, its very nice
youtube.com
Yes this game is hard. Solution: bait one of your opponents to come out. Slap him a few times. Retreat. Regain health. Repeat.
This game, the only game I think felt similar is a game trapped in the same hole as this one
I dont remember much but what I do is that you spawn, kill a bunch of shit while flying around and get the fuck out.
I liked it.
First person melee is pretty hard to do satysfyingly.
Someone drop a Breakdown webm
Assuming any actually exist
>Metroid Prime NOBODY ELSE has made a 3D metroidvania
Metroid Prime wasn't even the best 3D first-person Metroidvania in the year it came out (2002).
Breakdown doesn't hold up. It's just too slow and limited. They tried way too hard to make the game 'immersive' that they forgot to make it fun to play.
I could SWEAR this was also on the PS2. Turns out it wasn't.
Then it must have been some similar first person brawler. Can anyone help me out? I'm at a fucking loss here.
kill yourself you subhuman REtardera tranny
All I remember about this game is my mom randomly buying it for me because it was like $10 and she needed me out of her hair for a while so she could have the house to herself and her boyfriend.
system shock 1
Prey
There is no third person shooter with a higher skill ceiling. None. Vanquishfags get the rope with their gears with boost power.
powerslave has better exploration, sequence breaking, level design, and is far less repetitive.
jesus...
was she hot back then?
It's a bit of a stretch, but it plays a bit like Messiah
20 years without any challengers
Chronicles of Riddick was really good.
So basically Kojima ripped this off to make mgs5
Would love to see more games like 10,000 Bullets. I just want more gunslinger games in general.
Hybrid Heaven is great but you need to be in a mood for a rpg fighting game.
Isnt that a from Software title
We'll never get a proper spiritual successor to Jet Set Radio, and I'm fine with it.
Not him but yes, it is.
Geist? I know that was GameCube only though.
>so well
You have poor memory.
Dark messiah v orcs or people is fun
Shame so much of it is fighting infinitely spawning zombies or spiders who poison you on hit every hit in a game with no antidote spell, shop or anyway to reliably cure it, so you just have to spam heal v these enemies who barely react to being hit. zombies spawn so much they arent worth killing and spiders are outright immune to half the mechanics
I could argue some aspects of The Surge, but a lot of it is exploration based and doesn't require power ups. You basically find shortcuts throughout the levels to go back to your safe zone. Though later with an updated rig you can explore more and unlock areas with other power ups and more short cuts.
nemesis systme sucked dick never got the appeal
>oh no generic dick wad the vaguely more ugly is immune to literally fucking everything except mashing stun oh wait i can just run past him
Shadow Tower abyss. Unique as hell and from software best title
You may be thinking of Second Sight.
>5 fps
lost kingdoms was also fun and the only attempt to copy it (Folklore) sucked since it made elements matter so much most folks did no damage or hitstun
>second sight
>first person brawler
I never played Second Sight but the guy in OP's pic reminds me of the boxart. I could understand that user's confusion.
I fucking loved this game. Would kill for a PC port.
Great game reminds me of Master of Orion 2
I bought the GotY for $5 but haven't played it yet. Just got Shadow of War Gold Edition for $15, so hopefully it wasn't a waste and I like it. I know it got shit for microtransactions, but those have been removed.
I'd heard about this game but this video was way more than I expected. The animation work here is fucking incredible for PS1, and the music is so good. The game design itself is really interesting as well. I'm gonna have to emulate this.
Zeno Clash is a better balanced game, Dark Messiah's a physics playground
God Hand
HoMM is not a 4X game.
It's barely a 4x, completely different style from all the others and despite it's simplistic gameplay people are obsessed with it like AoE2.
If they remade this on current hardware it would look amazing.
Bamco should've turn this and Urban Reign into longer franchises, both are good bases for 10/10 tier games if polished up and fleshed out more.
A novelty that got old fast.
Gameplay is basically Witcher 1 combat. Tap rhythmically until are enemies defeated.
You forgot the army building part but ok
