Why do Sonic the Hedgehog and autism seem to go hand-in-hand?

Autistic kids like sameface things. ie. Smurfs, DBZ (anime in general, really), Thomas the Tank, etc.

They also really, really love the evil twin trope. The sonic franchise has more "evil versions" of the main character than any other.

It didn't use to be that way. As soon as the quality of the games went south (around the dreamcast era), the fanbase got a thousand times worse.

Sonic is very popular with children, and autism is essentially being unable to mentally develop past childhood while also having incredibly obsessive characteristics.
