He willingly committed to the plan despite a huge part of it, the army from Orlais, never arriving. Duncan and Loghain both tell you that the King is dead set on having his big moment of glory against the Darkspawn and that he can't be talked out of what they both clearly feel is a bad idea. Previous Blights have lasted decades or centuries and ruined whole countries, so the very idea that King Cailan and his Merry Men were going to stop the whole horde in one decisive victory at a time and place of his choosing is ridiculous. And without an Archdemon to slay, no victory at Ostagar would have been long lasting anyway.

It was dubious they would have won against a mobilizing Darkspawn horde at the forefront of a Blight even if the Orlesians had shown up and Loghain hadn't betrayed Teryn Cousland and Arl Redmond. When things started going wrong, Cailan should have listened to his advisors and pulled back from the defeat he was going to lead them into.

I love Loghain and I love how you can turn him into a Grey Warden and then in Inquisition you can sacrifice Hawke in the Fade to keep Loghain alive again. I hope there's a Dragon Age 4 where you can keep Loghain alive even further. I want Loghain to be the only motherfucker from the original game still going by the time the series is over.

No way Denerim and the Teryns would have had nearly enough men to fight the Darkspawn and only Riordan would have been around to even attempt to kill the Archdemon and there's no fucking way he could have done that alone. Then they'd have went north and over Orlais before being stopped there and Orlais would use that excuse to go into Ferelden, retake it, and clean that shit up.

Inquisition isn't nearly as rough to play. I distinctly remember a part of 2 where you had to close poison barrels in an alley, and every barrel you closed would spawn a fight with 3-4 waves of enemies.

No he didn't, his betrayal being in the interest of saving his men from a hopeless battle doomed by the plan of an incompetent king isn't tenable even if the king getting killed during it was coincidental keikaku that pushed him to do it. He'd had to have made the decision to use the Darkspawn incursion (he didn't even think it was a Blight) as a cover to get rid of Cailan at least weeks before the start of the game, otherwise the meme scheme to take out the Couslands (who had the largest army in the country aside from the King and possibly Redcliffe, which was only a few days away when Loghain alt-f4'd the battle) doesn't make sense. All this Jewry resulted in Ferelden losing it's only strategic chokepoint against the Darkspawn, a powerful figurehead, all the local Darkspawn experts, more than a few soldiers, and the stability of the realm just before a fellow Teyrn war hero with two armies of reinforcements showed up - except he killed him and hindered his reinforcements.

Loghain was a goddamn retard whose only rational action was being skeptical that Cailan was enough of a Chad to not get shit on by the queen of Orlais.

Like I like how, say, Anders worked at his clinic when Hawke wasn't calling on him, or how Varric talked about watching after Merril as she wandered through the alleys. Instead of them waiting on your beck and call in your fortress/camp/whatever and not really having any life when you aren't partied up. I like that hawke's motivation during both the Qunari invasion and the civil war was first and foremost them protecting their friends and family, while maybe doing some good for the city around them.

All that said, it's so fucking abysmal to actually play.

DA2 just feels like cutting through paper props, the awful sound design didn't help either

I've played the game for 120 hours for a completionist run. It's not fucking worth it. There's a list online with all the quests that are worth it. Around 70 percent of the entire game is pointless filler, spare yourself the trouble of collecting skulls for 20 hours.
