My favorite is a toss up between origin and felghana, love them both dearly. Ys 8 is starting very strong for me too, it's the best modern Ys game I think.
Upping the difficulty by one every time I started a new character in origin is a gaming experience I don't think will ever be topped for me, so fucking rewarding and satisfying.
Shame you skipped one and two but going from origin to bump combat and finding it lame is understandable. One and two are considered on par with if not greater than the first legend of Zelda in Japan and the connections made to it in origin and napishtim are still relevant to the plot of the recent games. I honestly think it needs a full blown remake, yes another one, which might be the 6th at this point I've lost count.
Nathaniel Evans
This might be hard to answer but did you feel like you missed anything story related or references by playing Origins first? I had planned to play it on my ps4 sooner but I wasn't sure if it was heavily connected to the main plot.
Ayden Long
Nice
Michael Williams
I and II were great, get your ass back in there nerd.
Liam Watson
they're okay boss fights are mostly good but areas are pretty boring and stories are dumb and cheesy some of the best jrpgs i guess but they could be so much better
Evan Morgan
Yea definitely. In the second town in Napishtim there was a guy that said I saved his ass in a past game, so there's that. Also they talked about Dogi, who I only knew because I played the shit out of Wanderers from Ys when I was a kid on SNES.
Jace Campbell
How could they be better outside of production values?
Justin Foster
i'm playing I&II right now after awhile the bump system gets a lot easier to deal with
the beginning is a bit rough but once you level up a bit the bump combat gets better. you just need to grind a bit on some of the dogs. then you become powerful enough that it doesn't matter. the only trouble you will have is on some of the bosses - especially the final boss
combat is similar in ys II but definitely more refined as you can now use ranged magic.
Levi Brown
- design complex dungeons that are fun to explore - make better puzzles and other interesting obstacles - hire someone that can write an engaging story
Hunter Price
Dana did LITERALLY nothing wrong
Ryder Rivera
Felghana and origin already had the first one and puzzles are awful in a game like this. Story is irrelevant, it's a videogame.
Chase Johnson
Because she's still Maia's bitch that who still wont stop extinction level disasters because the world is boring
Samuel Myers
Ys 8 is shit.
Ryder Jenkins
And so another lucky fellow finds out the true power of adventuring, all brought to him by based Chadol. What are your favorite tracks, by the way?
>but did you feel like you missed anything story related or references by playing Origins first? Since Origin was made after I & II, it's more like fanservice for those who played I & II beforehand. Also obligatory chart for anyone who's interested.
i liked them all, some are weaker than others, i really liked 8, origins, 1 and 2, i'm not sure what to think about what i've seen from 9.
Celceta had to be the worst game, although I still liked the combat, the story was especially poor and a few fights were either too easy or too annoying. I'd still recommend playing it, it's short and all the dumb shit doesn't really hit you until after the game is over, so it's fun while you're playing it.
Just wait until you get to Oath, my fucking fellow adventurer.
Mason Collins
Chester did EVERYTHING wrong
Aaron Harris
Yeah. But he had a coolass fight and theme.
Blake Ward
Thanks for this user, this will be helpful.
Blake King
Just about to finish Ys 8. It's my first Ys game and I've had a good time with my Inferno run first playthrough. The game seems pretty divisive though.
I really enjoy the Ys series, especially Oath and VI, however I'm having trouble connecting with Ys Origin. Something about it just isn't giving me that sense of adventure the other games so happily provide. Do you ever get out of the tower or are your confined to that place for the whole game?
Jaxson Flores
No. You never leave from Darm Tower.
Brandon Richardson
Hey ace! Not use to seeing you in other threads. That's actually quite disappointing. Is the game short at least? I want to beat it, but I've been putting it off for the longest time now.
Yeah. There's three characters in Origin (And have to beat the other two unlock the last one) but Origin isn't a very long Ys title.
Michael Stewart
Three characters? Damn... I think I'll be lucky if I slug my way through one of them. This is definitely not the Ys I love.
Luis Murphy
Origins, just because it was the first one I played.
Ian Barnes
Origins is literally a dungeon crawler, dude. It's apart of the story.
Aaron Ortiz
Every few levels of the tower has a completely different theme, I didn't find it too restricting.
Andrew Martin
Ordinarily yes, but RPGs are the exception , as they're very story heavy. If you're going to have something forced on you, then it better damn well be decent as least.
