What game has the most melancholy ending?
What game has the most melancholy ending?
MGS3
Reminder a landmine did to their love what Sin couldn't do for an entire game
when I watch this ending I can only think if tidus was standing a few feet further when yuna ran to hug him, she would have fell off the fucking airship and ruined the mood for everyone
undercut not by x-2, but by the postcredits sequence
Birth of user sim
Shadow of the Colossus and it's undebatable
These stick out the most for me, goddamn
Also Persona 3
NieR Gestalt and Replicant
why did this game never come to NA?
I remember being asked this question before and responding
>iji
but I cannot remember a single detail of the story aside from "aliens invade Earth".
There is way too much religious symbolism for NoA's draconian censorship practices. Plus the whole scene with the goat...
I cry errytiem

donkey kong
damn...
Their mother dies before the start of the game. But through the power of magic paintings they get to see her again. But it's not for long. They have to say goodbye to her a second time.
Yume nikki
Kino. It's fucking kino.
It's either The Longest Journey, or its sequel.
unnecessary, like the entire game
Mass Effect 3.
The entire game is a melancholic end to the franchise.
LISA
I was fucked up for a week after this ended, and I'm getting sad now just thinking about it
Earth is fukt.
Humanity is screwed.
Another alien race is outright extinct.
Iji has thoroughly lost your innocence.
Your socks are stolen.
KOTOR 2
The ending turns outright bittersweet when she goes to the grave tho
Walking out of town alone in Deadly Premonition depressed me.
Mother 3
Klonoa 1
Good thread. Marvel vs capcom 3 is up there as we'll never get another one...
Too bad the game was mediocre. The ending was kino though
The "best" ending you can hope for is you and your brother being the only living humans, peaceful coexistence with the aliens that murdered the rest of the planet, and mercy from the other aliens.
I felt empty for a couple of days
this
>dragon reads lucas's heart to know his true wish
>destroys the entire fucking world sending everyone to the afterlife
>after having to watch his brother kill himself he only wanted an end
>:|
>turned it off at the "End?" sign
I made this mistake too. Play it again.
Just great Yea Forums ate my original image.
This endings retarded and made no sense. Majimas just a cuck.
It sucks for Yuna but the high five with Jecht was ABSOLUTE kino and the credits should have started rolling immediately after that.
Asura's Wraith.
You refuse to ascend to godhood in defiance of the supreme being and are killed. Your brother in law rival tears his heart from his chest to revive you to save your daughter in penance for his role in the death of his sister/your wife. You literally beat god to death bare knuckled, knowing that it will lead to your dissolution since you're a karma-powered cyborg at this point to lead to a world free of the cruelty of its god.
And for the simplest reason: He made your daughter cry.
Metro 2033
>Yea Forums
move on, gramps
Terranigma crushed my heart.
Either this or red dead redemption for me.

Ark had a hard life.
>heroine sacrifice her life to bring back your humanity
>give you a good ending route to go save her and live together happily
>it's not canon in sequel
Fuck Shadow Heart 1
I regretted killing the dark one; he died so we could understand.
And then, of course, I booted Last Light.
Dying Light: The Following
youtube.com
>Reminder Big Boss believes in Santa Claus but apparently he stopped coming after awhile
I like to think the boss had something to do with that
Why do people hate this ending?
like the game sure, it had its fuck ups but this ending was actually nice
xenosaga 3.
theres always dark souls
>Sup bitch I'm still alive
>Here's this old vegetable man that caused everything I'm gonna kill him just because fuck him
>Now I'm gonna die too
>Don't kill yourself my man the plot fixed the Foxdie
>Snake would then die like a week later shitting and pissing himself in horrible pain
Even the best ending of Ib came off as melancholy to me, for some reason.
>then in the sequel the girl that's been falling in love with you the entire game turns out to be your mother because she gets sent to the past after the last boss and meets your father
which means she will be horribly murdered protecting you.
Came into this thread to post this, it hit me the first time I played it years ago but replaying it last year hit me even harder, getting more sentimental as I get older it seems.
FF9 for Vivi being gone, that was pretty melancholy when I finally figured it out, took me until I was a bit older to realize he had died and the monologue at the end was his.
FF6 because yes you have vanquished evil from the land but your victory is very hollow, Kefka had succeeded in his plans robbing you of friends and the world is merely a shallow imitation, not even the world as you knew it. Who would consider living in a world of vagrants and degenerates even if they had brang it back from the brink.
It really is one of the most poignant endings I've seen in a game.
*snifffff*
what gam, i want to feel too
asura's wrath is the real shit
i hope there is a remaster one day, as improbable as it seems
Terranigma. Don't spoil it for yourself, just go play it. The gameplay is a bit repetitive and the translation is questionable at times, but it's still a really unique story and has one of the best soundtracks in the entire SNES library.
>having to leave Brown behind
I get that it was all in her mind; but goddamn it, it still hurt.
Silent Hill 2's Leave ending.
Skies of Arcadia punches you in the heart out of nowhere at the end.
emulator time, i suppose. thank ya
for whats its worth i actually love how FFXV ended, if only they didnt decided to release the vanilla version in a rush
Everything after the reveal was such a fucking wild ride. I Just wanted to talk to plants and do spear combos, god damnit.
Legitimately one of the most depressing last acts in a videogame, especially if you combine it with the normal end of Ignis' story.
This too, though it's mainly about the implications.
>run an ice cream shop
>someone wants you to sell their french fry flavored ice cream
>wtf no this shit is weird and doesnt even taste good
>CENSORSHIP
the nier games
FFXV
The end? wasn't even the original ending, it was tacked on to make the intended ending less depressing and even then it's kind of hard to say it's not still pretty bad
>"oh we're actually all ok :) don't worry about the end of the fucking world or anything we're just fine floating in this featureless black void"
If you want the closest thing to a majima/makoto ending read Gokushufudou
ex-yakuza husband and business wife shenanigans
