Monolith Soft is not 3rd party, since they are majority owned by Nintendo.
They're 2nd party, and they worked on Skyward Sword, Link Between Worlds, and Breath of the Wild.

And Nintendo let Ubisoft, an actual 3rd party game studio make a Mario game already.

What if they make Xenoblade X2 multiplayer in the spirit of PSO? That would be nice

1.Monolith isn't third party, they're owned by Nintendo
2.Nintendo has let actual third parties make a mainline Zelda before, see Minish Cap and the Oracle games
3.Monolith worked on the last two mainline Zelda games. If anyone's qualified to take their own crack at one it's them
4.Nintendo is trying to be more liberal with their IPs now. See Rabbids Kingdom Battle, the upcoming Mario Movie, the Nintendo theme park, and the Zelda flavored Necrodancer spin-off

All this being said I don't think they are working on their own Zelda game right now

Capcom made several mainline Zelda games. Mario and Rabbids, Hyrule Warriors, Starlink, and that new Zelda indie game also exist.
Also Monolithsoft isn't third party. It's owned by Nintendo.

Well if the rumor of the LttP remake is true then I would expect it to be that.

It would also make sense as to why they used Zelda's LttP design in smash.

Monolith was responsible for the world building in BotW. It's the one thing they're good at.

yeah I agree, their worlds are neat but I hinest found Xenoblade and X boring, didn't even bother with XC2
