I mean, it's really a dumb-downed Half-Life if you think about it.
Baby's First FPS Or No?
I really dont see the connection besides all human enemies being bullet sponges
Did Half-Life have co-op?
Halo is still to date the slowest FPS series with ridiculous bullet magnetism. It doesn't help that level design faltered after the original
GoldenEye is baby's first FPS retards
>a dumb-downed Half-Life
It's dumbed a down Tribes.
nah, level design in Goldeneye is top notch compared to halo
Halo is a pretty fun party game. I have fond memories of LANing it up with 3 Xboxs and 10 people all in one friends large basement.
Singleplayer can eat a dick though. Who cares.
It's always the bad kids that talk shit about Halo, because they could never get good at it. Halo is the reason MLG exists, and an average Halo player can do well in any FPS.
>Halo CE
>baby's first anything
Back to the old folks home, gramps.
To elaborate because I'm drunk, it was 10 people including m, was Halo 2, and we'd alternate playing 2v2v2v2v2, 5v5, and FFA. Good times
No, Wolfenstein is, hence why id is glorified despite making extremely dull games.
>an average Halo player can do well in any FPS.
Hahahahaha!
It's true. It was well know that a Halo player could play and dominate in any FPS. I used to play against my friends in COD and sometimes win. COD players or anyone else couldn't play Halo, regardless of the shit they talked.
of course halo players can play CoD, it's the same low IQ shit
max payne is the only fps that matters anyways
the level design of the original sucked ass too, it was either copy pasted multiplayer maps or a corridor with the same 5 assets repeated endlessly
When this pic was made it was true.
But industry degenerated to a level Halo is considered skilful now.
Just like I would be considered casual pre-2000 but considered hardcore now because I own a dedicated gaming machine.
Halo not only required being good with the controller, but also map awareness, player spawns, weapon spawns, and communication. COD and most other FPS games don't require a high IQ or skill to play. Siege and CS take skill in their own way too. You most likely sucked at Halo or you never played it.
>map awareness, player spawns, weapon spawns, and communication
halo does all those at a minimal level, just like CoD
Compared to anything released around the same time yes, Halo:CE was for console children. But the genre has been dumbed down so bad that it's above average now. Just compare it to shit like Overwatch.
>above average
no, it's average now because halo and CoD paved the way for modern FPS
Yes.
more games need 16-32 player Co-op, only ones I know are Half Life, Super Mario 64, Serious Sam and E.Y.E
If we're talking about CE it's overall faster and more akin to an arena game, even if it's nowhere near the level of Unreal, Quake, TFC, Return to Wolfenstein, etc.
faster than what? Even CoD isn't as slow as Halo
CoD2 is alot faster both in time to kill and movement speed than Halo CE
>minimal level
You've never played Halo.
COD is faster than Halo
Correct
yes
Faster than fucking what, you run like a goddamn geriatric and you can toggle on aimbot and watch an entire anime episode before you kill anyone. I can't think of a single slower shooter that isn't a milsim.
CE is slow as fuck
That's why Halo is keeping sprint.
CE was the fastest Halo.
Slugs are faster than snails.
You're given the illusion that you're moving faster with sprint. Sprint was implemented to attract casuals and children.
i played Halo and found it pretty meh
but i am also of the opinion that Yea Forums doesnt really hate Halo but the cancerous culture it brought along with it
And it worked.
I dont know that much about Halo but I know that in CoD normal movement speeds were dropped when sprint was introduced. running with a pistol out in 2 is faster than a full sprint with max perks in 4
What's your point? I don't understand why you all want to change our game. If you like sprinting and thrustering around shitty maps like some anime queer just play a different game. You parasites just jump on the bandwagon and turn everything to shit with your fanboying and cocksucking on Waypoint. How I feel towards you people is what I feel towards my political ''opponents''; hatred.
Money? Yes. Series? No.
>Compared to anything released around the same time yes
Serious Sam is garbage though. Literally glorified yurojank.
still better than CE
Old lurkfag here. This debate was settled ages ago, before Pepe, before Feels.
> Halo: CE was the consoles first real FPS. PC FPS' are still sacred, but Halo was the prophet that brought it to consoles.
but its a GOOD dumbed down half life.
no shit, no one would care about some bogstandard shooter 20 years later if it didn't give you terminal cancer
>shitting on SS
pure faggotry
Goldeneye 64
My first was golden eye on my cousins n64. I could not play well with those fucking controllers. You needed 3 hands to hold it properly. Playing halo 2 with my friend was my first real experience where i played it more than 3 times a year and could actually play it well.
A precursor to working FPS' on console. But it wasn't the prophet. Remember having to hold the C button as a kind of ADS function so you could then move the reticle with just the movement stick?
by your standards, halo isn't a prophet either since gyro is the superior control option. Goldeneye sold more than the original Halo and is what paved the way for console FPS
> Halo: CE was the consoles first real FPS.
Timesplitters was the first console FPS in the consoleFPS style rather than the awkward 5th gen shooter styles like goldeneye/perfect dark and doom64. Halo's major landmark was that it was the first real example of a cinematic experience in video games since pre-crash point and click adventures. The game was designed to be pretty more than it was good.
It's dumbed-down Unreal Tournament, you fucking retards.
UT03/04 is more like Halo than Halo is like UT98
>dumbed-down Unreal Tournament
That's Quake.
You are both mentally handicapped. Stop posting.
ASDASDASD
UT04 is literally the same as UT98 with added features.
Except you're wrong. We're not talking about if there were FPS' that came before. Halo brought the arena shooter to the FPS in a big way. It had a far wider audience, and hit at a time where it literally pushed console FPS out of the PC only realm and gave it a home on consoles. It was finally viable and a good execution.
> Cinematic.
It was a cinematic experience but OG Bungie did that with all their games (PiD, Oni, Marathon). The biggest thing was the tight and functional controls that brought PC GPS arena style games to console.
>It had a far wider audience
>sold less than goldeneye
?
Again, we're not talking about if there were ones that came before. The viability of FPS in the fashion of Goldeneye/Perfect Dark wasn't very good. Because movement and aiming on the console had not been perfected yet. Which is why it get shit on outside of a console only prism. So, again, Halo stands alone as the one that brought standard PC style FPS arena style shooters into the console purview.
>Because movement and aiming on the console had not been perfected yet
they weren't either with Halo hence we have gyroscopy now
> Compared to current tech.
I'm not comparing it to current tech. I'm making a statement that it was a crux in gaming... Again... Because it made PC style multiplayer arena FPS viable on consoles. FPS' as a genre merged between consoles/PC's during this time.
wow what a great argument
In that case, I would argue it was CoD driving that merge, not Halo. Even Halo took from CoD eventually
>Which is why it get shit on outside of a console only prism
It sure as shit does with dual stick, which I'm pretty sure goes against the Geneva convention, and does even with gyro which outperforms dual stick by a thousand times or so.
Almost a good point. Halo came out in 01, CoD in 03. You proved my point for me. CoD may not have been so successful if Halo hadn't paved the way.
It's not an arena FPS and it doesn't play anything like PC shooters. There was never a shooter with both such sluggish movement and long TTK until people thought to plagiarize fucking DOTA in their FPS games. Which is what, 15 years later?
Halo is an arena shooter first of all. It played closer to PC's than previous games (like the Goldeneye example), and it created an FPS following on console that had generally been the purview of PC only because of keyboard/mouse accuracy.
who gives a shit, doom and quake niggers still assblasted to this day, fuckin kek
>It played closer to PC
>nuh uh!
I already explained why not, retard. Piss off.
Your explanation was a separate issue from what I was originally stating, mung.
No, the other FPS at the time were just floaty as fuck. You were fucking gliding on rollerskates in all of them and it was retarded.
>other FPS
>floaty
>other
>when talking about halo the 0.1g shooter
what
>CE
>Not floaty with the literal moonman jumps
I would say call of duty took that title years ago.
yeah it's really dumbed down but has some cool stuff especially for the time like the huge scale of the levels and seamless vehicle gameplay
the fundamentals like just basic movement and shooting is just so stodgy, sloppy and frankly boring there is nothing skillful about it
Not what floaty means. Floaty as in it feels like the ground is laminated and you're just glossing frictionlessly over it.
timesplitters > halo
Based
no? floaty is related to the jumping/air movement
People use floaty all the time to refer to all kinds of movement. In fact, it makes more sense to use it in reference to ground movement. That's where it's a bad thing most of all.
Wrong you nigger. Personal experience doesn't make it fact don't act like an idiot
>floating making more sense for anything that isn't literal fucking floating
The point is that even the walking feels like you're fucking floating in the other games, retard.
Hard to disagree, it certainly was mine. I remember my mom got pissed when my brother bought it.
Kirby is floaty, when he jumps he takes a long time to reach the ground
the same is true of master chief
You're always "just floating". Sometimes you have simulated head bobbing and that's it, the only real difference is air acceleration like the other guy said.
>zoomer
quit shoving your shitty forced memes into everything
CE is the fastest Halo, but it's not exactly beating anything in that regard. Even Serious Sam is faster.
>halo players are trying to pretend they're quake dads in terms of skill
This is too adorable for me to be mad at.
Halo is the ultimate zoomercore.
>b-b-but OG halo players are now in their 30s!
It's not an excuse to still have taste of a 13 year old.
Do you really not understand the concept of friction? Halo has a lot of friction, other FPS at the time had much less. This is a matter of preference and perspective, but I much prefer how Halo handles. It is more immersive for me. I find myself questioning the other games and thinking, how the fuck can this character move this way?
This is why Halo fans and say, id fans, will never see eye to eye. We have fundamentally different interests when it comes to our video games.
>working FPS' on console
Never happened.
>being able to control your character bad
>having terminal stage asthma good
>There are halodads now
Does this mean quakedads have ascended to quakegrandpas?
The real question is if they will balance the weapons for PC?
The game as a whole would need to be overhauled to work as a proper PC game.
>friction
What? Shooters aren't Tony fucking Hawk, you press back, you go back.
>id fans
again, nothing to do with ground movement
>taking a watermarked old image and pasting wojacks over it
now this is the kinda content I come to Yea Forums for
Why are these Quake fags so mad about Halo when Halo was only a console game. It was Counter Strike 1.6 and Battlefield 1942 that killed the arena shooters.
Halo takes a long time to change direction relative to other games.
it used to be, along with CoD, but it grew up
title belongs to Fortnite now
Same reason FGC hates smashfags. Smashfags like halo fags swear by their game as the greatest thing since sliced bread when in the reality of the gaming space they are entry level titles that should wean players into more complicated titles. But casuals don't really want to get good so they stay in their comfort zone pretending like a gimped version of UT is the greatest gift to modern gaming you can get. Also in that same light they will come up with numerous mental gymnastics to keep that train of thought.
It really just comes down to entry level children trying to have big boy conversations when they've hardly even entered the door.
Yeah but a lot of that also came from the console war thing
More of the overall shift away from computers to purely console games really. Halo proved that there was a massive market of dude bros who'd eat fpses up on consoles. Thus the money turned from PC development to Console development.
They literally never used a multiplayer map in Singeplayer until the 5th game in the series.
Halo isn't Bungie's first videogame, in fact, it is Bungie's 11th videogame.
>GNOP! #1
>Operation: Desert Storm #2

Playable through emulation here: drive.google.com
Alternatively you can set up Basilisk II yourself, which all I can say is... good luck.

>Oni #10
abandonware, get anniversary edition patch
basically all this shit's free
Halo CE occured in the middle of a wave of sci-fi console shooters following Perfect Dark and just refreshed the wave. Halo 2 online was done did in the industry.
Play spv3
That's the opposite of friction, then.
Yup, goldeneye was my first fps and one of my first vidya at all I started playing.
Didn't have an original xbox, so halo 3 was the first one I ever played and also my first game on the 360. I will say I remember being really impressed by the graphics.
I don't like it very much.
What war? PCs aren't consoles, and shooters are utter dogshit on consoles.
My first FPS was Metroid Prime, on the wii lol. I was only playing RTS like AoM and adventure point&click games on PC.
>because I own a dedicated gaming machine
You mean, a console ?
>all those times I ran people over while dodging rockets, grenades, and banshees
Ah, good times. Also reminder Halo 4/5 were a mistake
>any fps
>CoD
Retard, is that bait ? If so 10/10.
The only few things i don't like are the crashes and that unnecessary added dialog in the keyes mission. Also the DMR is sucks dick and weapons despawn a bit too aggressively. And the new flood form is the most annoying thing I have come across in a long time in a video game. They do jack shit and just make a bunch of noise.
And you've never played quake.
Regardless if you hate console shooters, they're coming over to PC, so it's not like your animosity will be doing you any favors.
Saying that it's dumbed down is innaccurate. The skill floor is lower than most other shooters, yes, but during Halo 3's prime, it had a massive skill gap where a pro player would run circles around an average player.
I hate Halo but only retards who never played it and looked at the infection form flood enemies call it a Half Life ripoff.
Half Life is a shit game too, fyi. It’s also one of those games that nobody actually played and claims that it’s the best game ever. I’d take fucking SiN over Half Life any day, or Clive Barker’s Undying, or System Shock 2.
It's a cool game, nobody says otherwise unless they're retarded but OP is still right.
It's still dumbed down even if it keeps some kind of skillgap.
I played this when I was 5
good time thanks mom
Besides Oni and Marathon that I already know, anything good ?
Christ nigga I like Halo but please stop, you're honestly embarrassing.
Is this the Halo thread?
>you press back, you go back
The change from 0 to 1 and 1 to 0 movement is more gradual in Halo than in other FPS at the time. Small but noticeable difference. I also tend to think that speed of movement in Halo is more plausible than in the older id shooters.
>Fortnite
>_F_PS
Getting halo players to play quake and ut wont make them stop liking Halo
I like Halo too user but I don't spout retarded affirmations about it. They will at least see that it's really dumbed down.
Halo was an entry level FPS but was peak video game design at the time. Halo is not an FPS like Quake or DOOM are FPSs, it's what I call a shooter-adventure game.
Lot's of people played Half Life, it's not some niche game people say they like for e-penis points.
Halo was like 20 fucking years ago. I've already played it, it's really fucking mediocre. Only reason it's remembered over singularity or any other bogstandard shooter is it was an early console one.
>tfw you cut your teeth on UT99 but don't mind playing Halo with the consolefags
I like halo but only a retard would pretend like Arena shooters aren't some of if not the hardest most skill intensive games of their genre.
>My first FPS was Metroid Prime, on the wii lol
you fu-
>playing RTS like AoM and adventure point&click games on PC.
my nigger
>the greatest thing since sliced bread
>mfw this is legit idiom
>mfw americans actually have troubles slicing their bread manually
>mfw americans can't eat bread unless it's sliced
>I used to play against my friends in COD and sometimes win.
lmfao
Me too but ITT we have halofags pretending their game is the second coming of Christ.
The fuck is this, you know Yea Forums can't understand anything without wojacks or pepes
>Half Life is a shit game too, fyi. It’s also one of those games that nobody actually played
just fucking kill me holy shit wha tthe fuck man
Man, I'm so mad at those «cinematic experience» they make today, is they were doing shit like in l'Armerzone or other point&click in the same style it would be god tier.
Myth is notable for bucking the trend of resource management and development prevalent in RTS and focusing solely on managing a set army. It had a fully 3D environment and some really cool physics. Good game but I suck at RTS so I could never play the higher difficulty levels or really hold my own online.
>They literally never used a multiplayer map in Singeplayer
I can't remember the name of it, but the map "Turf" in Halo 2 is just a reskin of the first section of New Mombasa.
But yeah, most the maps are original.
Its just zoomers man, don't let their retardation get to you. They don't know any better.
Hahaha holy shit this nigger is serious
Try playing Quake III, or Unreal 99/2004
Hell, even CS
Do you niggers not know what friction is? It's not sliding, it's what makes you stop. And it isn't even correct. Inertia just makes it feels unresponsive as shit, something like CS is a hell of a lot snappier with the ludicrous air acceleration. There's a reason everyone hates ice levels.
There's always been a vocal contingent of fanboys who thought that, they're just getting uppity again cause of the PC release. Anyway I remember when Halo came out I was pretty impressed by how good it looked and felt to play compared to the other console shooters of the time. It was no UT of course but I was still surprised at what they were able to do despite the limitations of being on a console. And gun to my head I'd still rather play Halo over any Call of Duty after the second one.
Considering Quake 1 came out in 1996 I'd say so. That game turns 23 in June.
I like Half-Life and Halo
I didn't play it when it was released, only way after and I also never owned any of the games but they were really fun playing at a friend's house.
Yeah I never owned an xbox myself but I always had a good time playing with friends.
>my boomer game is better than your boomer game!
DOOM/Quake/UT are boomer games. Halo is a millennial game. The more you know.
Mechanics of halo are deeper
UT came out w years before halo
UT wasn't popular with millennials like Halo was though. Those 2 years still made a difference.
Counter Strike is neither all that tactical nor all that arena. Same thing applies to Halo, except replace tactical with console.
Didn't UT have a couple of console exclusive games?
they really made Chief's armor ugly
Unreal Championship 2 was a good game.
That big 117 is really bad, the textures look just pasted on top.
we're at the point where it's more fitting to give cod MW2 that title.
how? there are vehicles in halo but weapons are far more unique in goldeneye with multiple taking level design into account
I just played Unreal Tournament. Had to use OpenGL because it's 2019. It was fun.
Now play Halo if you hate it.
I did and it sucked, MP was just as lame but Race was fun
