Blocks move kinds slow and clunky, effectively lowers the skill floor AND skill ceiling. My favorite of all time was Tetris DX for the gameboy color. Smooth movement, and a screen small enough to easily keep an eye on the whole board. Play it on a backlit GBA.

As opposed to not having to spin pieces to have all the time in the world to lay them down? And even if you filibuster every piece it's still far faster than classic tetris.

Meanwhile in level 19+ NES Tetris you have to actually plan carefully for all eventualities and filling above half of the board is a death sentence as you can't get pieces over to the sides in time

How is stalling time for up to 30 seconds for each piece more time than getting 5 seconds of falling before your piece locks into place?
