As someone who has ripped some of them, they're actually really low-poly and trying to animate them beyond what they're animated for in HotS requires a lot of additional modelling work that just isn't worth it.

If you look at the leftmost model and look at the right thigh (her left) you can already see lack of polygons creating an angular curve. Also SFM zooms in a lot. So a model you only see from a a distance topdown doesnt hold up to scrutiny

They are that nice, that's the actual in-game model, it's just that it only looks nice like that if its doing what the model was made to do. The HotS team was clearly talented, because they used a lot of tricks to get a lot of fidelity. On average, so far as I found, each model has around 7-10k tris/polygons, which is fairly standard for SFM, but the polys are in places like knees, neck, clothing, etc. They're not in joints or fingers like proper models.
