What's a good flying game, one that is more focused on simulation at a single player level?

Do you need a joystick to play it properly? I tried once with mkb and couldn't even take off.

Yes, cheap joystick with only 4 buttons are hard to use too, look for an actual HOTAS

Requires a bit of creativity to set up the axis and bindings, but a Xbox or Dualshock controller can be made to work. I got the free Su-25 to work on a PS4 controller with no head tracking or external programs. Basically I set up the R1 and L1 buttons as shift modifiers, effectively tripling my inputs. The d-pad alone has 16 inputs depending on whether or not I'm holding R1, L1, or R1+L1. This even works with axis, so I can hold R1 and then use the right stick to move the targeting pod camera. My T16000M HOTAS is definitely better though.
