>dungeon theme is amazing
>near hear more than 5 seconds of it because of how common encounters are
Combine that with using the boss track for regular encounters and ruining its impact and you have the last dungeon of Zero no Kiseki.
>overworld theme is amazing
>can't hear more than 5 seconds of it because it restarts from the beginning after every encounters when it's actually supposed to continue where it left off and the port's devs aren't fixing it
>game has like 25+ bosses
>all of them but the last one use the same theme
>its awful
>overworld theme is amazing
>can't hear more than 5 seconds of it because it restarts from the beginning after changing areas even if the next area uses the same track
>normal battle theme is alright
>get in a boss battle
>normal battle theme still plays
>finally get to the final boss

Fucking Metroid Prime.
>RPG is renowned for its soundtrack, even the haters tend to agree the music is good if nothing else.
>But the common battle theme that you're going to hear more than anything sounds like you're beating a bag of cats to death using another bag of cats.
Fucking Chrono Cross.
PSO is one of the most commonly thought of games that do this, and man does it do it well. But it's not a turn based RPG, so I dunno if you'd still count it.
upon reading the two lines I was going to reply complaining about chrono cross, but then you said it yourself
It's kind of mind blowing how bad the battle theme in that game is, isn't it? Especially when you hear the rest of the soundtrack.
>music resets when you open a menu/bring up a UI
youtu.be
The only objectively bad thing about Unleashed
it's not a horrible song but it definitely doesn't belong in a sonic game
>soundtrack is amazing
>no good remixes exist on any of them
>no good mashups or medleys either
that's because it's amazing and remixes are just going to ruin it
subpar soundtrack soundtrack but that still has kinda catchy music ends up having the best remixes
>Brainlets can't into 9/8 time signatures
Enjoy your shit taste
the tales series disagrees
>action game
>battle theme lasts for literally a millisecond because you instakill everything
>game gets a remastered
>they also remaster the soundtrack and completely ruin it
at least those games often end up having the option to switch between the two
>sequel uses shitty remixes of the tracks in the original game
Fuck Kirby for doing this. Masked Dedede sounds like ass due to it's tempo and I'm sick of hearing it.
>music continues from where it got cut off after a battle
kino
>dungeon theme is amazing
>get close to enemies
>dungeon theme replaced with a garbage 20-second loop
>late in the game at one of the biggest moment
>been playing for over 60 hours so far
>amazing track starts playing for the first time to build up hype
>run through the area enjoying the moment and looking forward to the final battle
>random encounter
>normal battle theme you've heard the last 60 hours starts playing
>song starts out mediocre
>gets really good after 20 seconds
>right when it stops
>game gets a sequel
>remixed theme from the first game plays during the final level/boss fight
>good dungeon/over world theme
>bring up the menu
>more chill version of the song seamlessly keeps playing
How do they do this black magic?
>music gets progressively worse over the course of the game
>game is 100+ hours long
>Battle theme interrupts atmospheric setting.
youtu.be
My main issue with it is how it interrupts the great night stage music
>literally changes style half-way in going from non-voiced orchestral music to... rap
Why would you do this

>track is amazing
>is unused
>One of the battle tracks is great
>Activates PTSD due only playing during battles with bullshit enemies
The ship's theme combined with all the speakers around the areas is top tier.
The first bank theme is my favorite dungeon theme from P5 though.
the ship spaceport and casino are fucking TRASH user
>entire soundtrack is good
>the only remixes are of the pleb tier song associated with a meme character
>best song gets no remixes
fuck you sans
>casino is trash
wow
I mean, the dungeons themselves are questionable, but as I said the ship's theme with the the speech overlapping with it as you're running around sounds great. On its own it's droning but that's not how it was intended to be listened to.
A lot of people like the casino theme but to be honest I think it's the weakest vocal track.
casino is the worst because of how repetitive it is especially with the whole "only hear 5 seconds of it" bullshit. if you only heard the song once it wouldn't be that bad but the dungeon is just a fucking slog and the music does NOT get better the more you listen to it. it's weird how the bank is the only palace that changes tracks halfway when it's the best track in the game
>no random encounters
>enemies spawn via proximy for a chance at preemptive strike
>remix of current overworld/area theme starts playing, toying with the musical genre of the theme and making it something new
Say what you will about the game but I loved that effect. Wish more RPGs with enemies on the overworked did this.
It's just a shame that:
>fucking timer until game forces enemy preemptive strike on you so you'll never hear the full remix in game
>song is amazing
>they removed it with instrumental version in the localization
STOP DOING THIS SHIT
>localisation makes the soundtrack better
gameplay wise ffxiii-2 is the best in the franchise. its a shame that everything else is fucking trash
>reuses only the good tracks from the first game
>80% of the new songs are wild chocobo tier garbage
>that fucking voice acting
>that fucking beyond nonsensical story + retcon
>STUPID FUCKING RANDOMIZED CLOCK MINIGAME
I honestly loved the no random encounters and remixed overworld theme but the generic battle theme was pretty underwhelming. It's kinda incredible that one of the worst (all around) games ever made is also one of the only games to do monster battles correctly
>pokemon
>catch random monsters and they now obey your every command and fights your battles for you
>digimon
>raise monster from birth and it now obeys your every command and fights your battles for you
>monster rancher is a combination of both
>ffxiii-2 you beat monsters into submission and they fight ALONG SIDE YOU
at least still better to go instrumental that localize the song as well
>when you start fighting music starts small
>if battle continues for long, it is assumed that battle is serious and music gets more intense
learn to compose for games, retards
>most games in the series have an alternate battle theme and/or remix that only plays when you're on the verge on losing during normal battles and shit's real
>all those themes are nice and worth listening to
>go through 4 games (that all did it) before realizing it was a thing while checking out the OSTs because you've never been on the verge of losing
>battle music gets incredibly intense and hype when gym leader has one pokemon left
>dies in one hit
>every
>single
>time
>>battle music gets incredibly intense and hype when gym leader has one pokemon left
Wait a minute, it changes?
in gen 5 it did. i think it might've in 6 too but the gyms in xy were beyond forgettable so I can't confirm
It did in gen 5
Gym leader would come out and say something and everything, but as that user said, it would never last more than two more turns.
>Final mission have a unique soundtrack wich is fucking awesome
>only last like 3-4 minutes
>final mission is long and grindy as shit lasting over one hour by itself
OH GOD.
I still love creeper world.
>main theme is fucking amazing and perfect for everything that happens on the game
>sequel gets a remix
>is also cool on its own
>third game comes
>gets a remix of the remix
>is also cool on its own
Well how can they do it?
Battle theme becomes dire when HP drops and party members die. It picks back up again after you recovered. Boss dunks on younext turn and becomes dire again. Fuck I love this game.
>final boss uses the same battle theme as every other battles you've done the entire game
>battle goes on
>music hits loop point
>goes back to small fight music
ok
>why, yes of course we remastered all our tracks with live orchestra instruments, they sound a lot better like in a real cinematic experience, which we all want right guys?
>boss theme changes when the boss is nearly defeated
>the music is one of the most hype tracks in the entire franchise
>doesn't matter anyway since the boss is defeated before the 30 second mark unless you purposely take your time
can you guess what game?
>can you guess what game
basically every game with that type of mechanic
>what's a timecodes?
>tfw taking your time
>kill your party members and go solo
>equip the weakest sword in the game
>boss still die kinda fast and can't even hear the whole track
>A specific song plays kind of often in the first game, has a bunch of remixes throughout
>2nd game, has a bunch of new songs but the original doesn't seem to play anymore
>Get to the final stage
>The original song begins to play
fucking garbage taste. wtf is wrong with you
Can't you just defend/waith?
>just standing around on a boss fight to listen to the music
well, if _just_ wanted to hear the track I'd get the OST
it's just kinda silly to the lengths you have to go to hear the track while playing normally, even holding back. You'd think they'd somewhat plan for it to be heard if it's not a short loop
Final Fantasy XIII-2 LET ME LICK LIGHTING'S ARMPITS edition
Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, though only in the endgame areas.
lightning was barely even present in 13-2, just the opening and a few rare scenes
>best regular battle theme
>only plays in the very last hallway of the final dungeon against a handful of mobs that you kill before hearing the full thing
youtube.com
>Final boss theme is the opening theme with instrumentals from other tracks added in
Mah Xenonigger.
>Series has amazing boss tracks
>Half or more of the other boss tracks in the rest of the game are absolute unmemorable garbage
How does this happen? Do you just kind of forget to make good music sometimes, or is it because of deadlines? Why is there such a huge disparity. How can you make something so good, alongside stuff so painfully mediocre?
>normal battle themes are better and more hype than the boss themes
I guess it works out since you hear it more often but well
Sometimes different composers and sometimes just different bosses using different styles which sound terrible. Just to use an example.
