lootboxes, on-disk dlc, dlc announced before a game is even out, paid for early access/buy in beta, crowdfunding, mobile gaming, time vs paywalls blocking content, games as service subscriptions, console exclusivity

drm punishing players who pay for their games by making their expirience worse than the pirate who will inevitably get it for free ANYWAY

on top of that the shitty developer vs player struggle that seems to happen any time players arent satisfied with changes made to games they cant opt out of or shit like with the borderlands 3 epic store thing everyone hates
developers just don't know how to communicate with their players and that causes a playerbase retaliation turning players off automatically
were at the point no one trusts game reviews and video game journalists are a total joke so the only way to know if a game is good or not is to pirate, buy it blindly, or get an opinion from a friend who has it

gaming as become too mainstream and corporations stick their grubby paws on what use to be a medium that only sold by quality

The amount of shit they'll eat and the amount of justification people'll go through to make a game good. It amazes me people are STILL playing F076 to this day despite the absolute shitshow of a game it is. It's the equivalent of a movie coming out and all the actors randomly switch characters will nilly and the audio being backwards.
I'd also complete pervasion of old games in general, and not straying from whatever's modern and hip at the time.

Modern gamers are as consumerist as I have been back in the day but instead of buying what they want they buy what they are told to.
furthermore I think they don't value the past as much as I do, they would never look into the libraries of older consoles and find gems of the past.

All in all it doesn't matter, the bad taste of zoomers won't delete what we already have and there are still good games being made.

When I played old games as a kid I didn't know they were old. I just found a bunch of C64 games on my dad's computer and played them, for all I knew they were as old as Max Payne
