I really don't get why people think that they're using some secret code names to hide what they're working on but subtly hint at it. Sakurai is notoriously awful at keeping his work secret, and if the fact that everyone with a blue checkmark seemed to know about Incineroar before it happened, it's safe to say he's learned nothing from when they left Roy and Ryu's names in the files for Smash 4's DLC. I think it's a safer assumption to say that a character named "Brave" in the files is a character actually named "Brave" than a character that maybe kinda has something to do with bravery. Piranha Plant was revealed WAY before the game came out, you wouldn't really need a code name for him. Joker was a surprise announcement, even for Sakurai as he didn't think they'd reveal him that early, so him having a code name, along with Brave, would make more sense.
On an Erdrick note, I do think the slide could be characteristic for him if you take things literally. His games are grid based, so if you were to press a direction then immediately turn back, you'd have to wait for him to move to the next grid space before he'd move back. It's a stretch though.
I don't really mind if Brave is Banjo, Sora, or Erdrick. I would prefer Banjo because I've beaten his games and he pretty much used be a 2nd Party character, but Dragon Quest is one of the most popular games ever in Japan so a character is definitely deserved, and Kingdom Hearts is a well loved series.
Need to actually get to beating some Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts games.

I haven't played much DQ stuff myself aside from 9 which i loved so I can't give any reccomendations on that, but the best place to start if you care about the story of KH is with the PS4 "Story so Far" collection. It doesn't include the actual Re:Coded or 358/2 Days games, though, so you may want to emulate those or slap them on a flashcart.

I'd even excuse it if Erdrick or Slime or WHATEVER had a unique moveset, but what if it doesn't even have THAT?

I don't have a PS4, had to sell my mine for money reasons just after beating Persona 5, the only game I got to get on it. But I am willing to emulate the Final Mix versions of KH1 and 2, using english patches. I then have a hacked 3DS and Vita so I should be able to play every other game up to 3, excluding those discontinued mobile games I've heard about.

Oh, well, that works, too. Might even be a better experience since the PS4 versions do have a few problems. Just a fair warning, though: Days plays like shit and people only play it because it's plot relevant.

I think this post has it backwards. It's not a question of why Nintendo would work with Square; they already are since we've got Cloud in the game. You have to consider why they would put Cloud into the base game when they would get a bigger cut if he was DLC again, and the answer would be that they negotiated to have Cloud there if they got a second DLC rep. So while the fact that a Square character is DLC isn't that out there, the question then becomes what character would sell the most.

That's never the case with Smash Bros, it's the complete opposite.
