The first one is pretty old, but it was fairly influential for it's time which might make it feel boring if you're playing it today. The sequels are thematically similar, but they expand on a lot of things.

If you don't know anything about it, it's basically a VN with SRPG elements. The story is mostly about civil war between animal people while you play the role of some random guy who woke up with amnesia and a mask stuck to their face.

Original (PC version with PS2 voice patch) -> Mask of Deception -> Mask of Truth. Alternatively you can wait for early 2020 when the remake of the original comes out in the west, but it probably cunts the eroge content and it's localized by NISA.

You have three options.
1. Start with the original PC game. It's quite dated in art, although you may like it that way, and gameplay, but story wise it still holds up. It includes a lot of frankly unnecessary sex scenes which retards will tell you makes it superior. You'll have all the information necessary for the sequels.
2. Start with Mask of Deception. It's a sequel to the first game, but it's set years ahead, in a different place, and with a mostly new cast so you can pick it up easily. It came out over a decade after the original game, so the devs made it in a way that could bring in new fans. However, a significant chunk of Mask of Truth will have its impact lost on you without knowledge of the first game.
3. Wait until the remake comes out, which updates the art and gameplay, but that'll be in 2020 if I recall right.

2 and 3 were localized by atlus themself I think, it's weird how the remake is being localized by NISA, but as long as it's coming over I can't really complain.
