Apex your corners, anticipate the steering limits of the character's kart beforehand. There's actually a lot of real racing techniques that go into doing this consistently.

The last corner on Papu's Pyramid is a good example. You want a wide entry, hug the left side going up to the crest, and hard-right once you're at the top. I believe even the heaviest karts can make the corner this way.

CTR is automatically better because you can block or dodge incoming attacks multiple ways.

to be fair, i had to look up how to do it. it's not very intuitive. but now that i know, it's a really great system.

Probably helped that the game uses the adventure system to teach you core mechanics along with a tutorial that you can access at any time. Plus it was all there in the manual.
