It's much more likely that a bad but popular game gets praised than a niche and bad game.

Why is it that games are ranked on impact rather than just the gameplay merits? For example, nsmb ds controls better, has better graphics, more content, better save system when compared to Super Mario Bros on NES. But because Super mario bros on was much more prolific, people choose to appreciate that instead. How does that make any sense?

That only happens for Mario, no other series gets that treatment since nothing rivals the original Mario’s pop culture influence

they shat up the series post 2 by trying to make it more like tekken. They fixed it enough with VI but it's too late, it's going to take time to rebuild the image

They didn’t count all of Pro Skater’s reviews, so the score was higher as a result. GameRankings was used for older games & their scores were adjusted using Metacritic’s system
