Nothing is promised is great because the first time it shows up in a boss fight against that Kamoshidan bunny, the fight is very much designed to fuck you over.
You're fucked if you don't know the routine and counters. And since you're playing a new game, no one has written them down for you, you are going to get fucked a few times in a decently lengthy boss battle as the guy keeps telling you "Nothing is promised. You gotta earn it yourself".

IV's story is allright, but the sequal IV:Apocalypse is known for having a shitty story.
But the main complaint is that it was too "persona-ish" because there is put too much emphasis on bonds and friendship like persona.
I thought it was okay and I think that most SMT purist hate it, because they immediately get an allergic reaction to anything that has the same vibe as persona.
So if you like persona you will like or atleast not mind the story all that much.

IMO if the story is bad, the gameplay has to be amazing to make up for it. What do you think of the actual gameplay and all that?

Because I do, and Persona Dancing has a real problem with charting.
P3/5D's charts are a lot better, but they still have the issue of being complimentary to the song's rhythm, rather than actually following along with the music.

P4D is just a fucking mess. It doesn't fill gaps in the rhythm, it doesn't compliment, and sometimes the chart doesn't even have a rhythm in its own right, just a bunch of fucking notes everywhere.
Unironically I have an easier time playing P4D with the sound turned off, and that is a BAD sign for your rhythm game.

The big thing about SMTIV is that with 400 something demons you are pretty much changing your entire party every hour

Sometimes, it's one beat, like "ju ne su" is "tap tap tap"
But like in the first verse of the song, I honestly cannot tell what the chart is trying to do, if anything. It doesn't seem to follow any of the instruments nor the vocals. And it's not complimenting any of it either, so when you play this track the music is almost getting in the way of deciphering the chart pattern.

In most rhythm games, the hardest difficulty most closely matches the song's beat. But in P4D (and to an extent 3/5D), they take it as "stuff as many notes into the track as possible."

Also, 4D's hype meter is complete dogshit, that really soured my experience. More so than the subpar charting.

I hate almost all of 3s reincarnation tracks and think 1 or 2 of them are ok.

I much prefer Last Surprise to the other two, though I think P5's soundtrack is a little worse than the other two on the whole, not because of the quality of the songs, seeing as I think it's arguably better than the other two in that regard, but because the three of them are close enough in quality but 5 has less variety while 3 and 4 had different music for the time of year and things like that, 5 sticks to the same few tracks for the whole game.
