And Game Freak will never make a Pokemon game that took effort to make and changes up things significantly. Imagine if they made something akin to BotW with a giant open world, exploration, multiple paths and storylines, and actual choices. It would get praised to high heaven and sell millions, but then what? Pokemon as it is already sells millions as a medium budget hack job and making that revolutionary Pokemon game with a gigantic budget would only raise expectations for the game after that. There's literally no reason for Game Freak to do anything as long as their games sell

I disagree. The audience for Pokemon would buy any mainline Pokemon game in almost every circumstance other than it being absolute garbage, and even then it would still probably sell a lot. As long as they keep the battle, party, and catching system, Game Freak can probably do anything it wants to. I don't think any Pokemon fan that bought Sun and Moon and enjoyed it would suddenly scoff at an AAA Pokemon game and drop the series there no matter how much journo-bait is crammed in.

Other games companies with kill and I mean kill to have a brain dead consumer base that will eat up any game at full price no matter what no matter even when the quality is long gone in all regards with standards set so low.
I truly believe Pokemon might be one of the only franchises that is immune to the type of game sells that tend to dive down lower and lower as the years go on simply from fatigue.
