This whole thing isnt about competition, Epic is looking to replace Steam and thats that.

if valve loses, everyone with steam games loses.

Steam does so much more than just sell games. It would be a tremendous loss IMO.

The difference is console gaymers fight to have exclusives on their platform, PC is doing it to not have exclusives.

It's not like you can just use both like an idort.

Or you could just stop buying new games and work on your backlog.

If Epic won I can just go back to pirating. So whatever.

I really don't like steam. It's a pain to use and couldn't be anymore bloated. I actually would prefer if every publisher had their own online store (under the condition that their online store doesn't suck).
But reading shit like this makes me really appreciate Valve more than any other publisher even If I don't like their main service and haven't played any of their games (besides the 2 Portal games). VR games being divided between multiple platforms like console exclusives is the worst thing that can happen to VR gaming. Not just for the customer but also for the growth of VR gaming in general, yet platform holders like Sony and Oculus only have eyes for their short-term profit as usual.
They really seem like the only company that actually cares about their consumers, with them supporting linux-gaming, modding and non-exclusivity. Newell openly acknowledging piracy as a service issue is also something I never would've imagined coming out of the mouth of a president of a publisher.

Epic has no chance in hell of winning, if winning means displacing Steam. They're burning the candle from both ends and Valve is far too established. The real question is whether Epic's business practices will become widely adopted. It's a strange time where others like Microsoft are preaching more open policies, like allowing fucking Halo on other stores. This isn't about Epic vs Valve, but a major crossroads in this industry about pro-consumer vs pro-publisher.
Thomas Russell
Why is Steam the one getting bullied then?

Steam will win unless they go full Sony with censorship, I wouldn't put it past them with how things have been going.

In what sense? Epic is trying a completely unsustainable short term business strategy tp try to knock out the biggest name in pc gaming right now, and spending insane amounts of money trying to do so.
Meanwhile, the only time valve gave a shit is when epic launcher was caught going through steam files. Beyond that they've Judy been doing what they always do.

retarded comparison. I don't have to pay $400 to download steam or epic, and I'm not an absolute mongoloid who would refuse to use one just because I have some blind loyalty to the other
Logan Edwards
I don't care who wins but if it's epic i'll go full pirate again. I'll never buy a game on their retarded shit store. I don't even want their free shit. Even if the same game was half the price on the epic trash heap i'd still buy it from steam. Fuck epic, fuck chinks, fuck tencent. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

More like:
>Press windows key
>mouse over game you want to play
>Launcher opens up
>loads
>The launcher needs to be updated to continue, do you want to download now?
>Click yes
>wait 5 minutes
>finally done downloading
>launcher relaunches
>click into library
>click on game
>game finally launches
if everything was in one place, this would happen way less often. plus i never have uplay, battle.net, or origin open if im not using them because what is the point of having system resources and memory hogged up so these can stay open in the background? I'm not even sure if you are an actual PC gamer, or just some casual shitter basedboy fag that thinks he knows everything, because clearly you don't.
the whole idea of 'its just another store bro' is some of the most assbackwards thinking i've ever heard of in my life. let's pretend this was the case on xbox...you had launchers for all the different companies you use. if you wanted to play a bungie game on xbox, you had to open the bungie app. if you wanted to play a ubisoft game on xbox, you'd have to open the uplay app and so on and so forth. people would have a fucking fit, but oh, since it's on PC and it's MEANT to have a ton of different programs, it's totally fine!
can you imagine if people applied this argument to literally ANY other medium? imagine you had to open a different music player to listen to albums from different record labels. imagine you had a different kind of streaming service for every type of movie studio (this is already happening to be fair, cbs all access, hulu, netflix, disney+, hbo now, etc...). it's a fucking stupid system. i want all my games in one place, i don't want everything spread about, i don't want to have to deal with a thousand different launchers all needing their own updates and all needing to run in the background of my computer uselessly draining my computers resources...etc. now i know what you're thinking, 'lol just close them bro' and i do, but it's inconvenient

epic cant keep up what they are doing forever. fuck, epic pays out if the game undersells so even the moralfag defense of not pirating shit doesnt even work for egs exclusive games.

>literally such a fucking brainlet his brain starts hurting when he sees TOO MANY WORDS
is that why you unironically think it's a good idea to have 10+ launchers for all your games? does your brain get overloaded and your nose start bleeding when it sees too much information? I would say you should kys, but i'm sure you are a neet khv and you have already shown to be retarded, so i think you continuing to exist is hell enough for you.

It'll take time, but given Steam's pro-consumer stance and Epic's purely pro-publisher stance Steam will win in the end
>Microsoft couldn't establish a storefront to beat Steam even if they had their own exclusives to compliment the other games that released there
>Bethesda just came back to Steam with their tail between their legs because they fucked up so hard on their own storefront and likely nobody was preordering Rage 2
>Only Ubisoft and EA have had successful stores and people only use them for their exclusives
>Epic has no first-party exclusives outside of Fortnite and they won't be able to buy third-party exclusivity forever
Once Epic stops paying for third-party exclusives consumers will have no reason to keep using the Epic Game Store if there's no overall advantage to them using it over Steam or even GOG
