They should make characters have their own routines and schedules like in Majora's Mask

Villagers should have jobs that reflect their personalities. Grumpy villagers could be fisherman. Peppy villagers could be artists. Jocks dedicate their life to training or work a gym. Maybe some villagers work comfy little convenice stores. The more public work projects you complete, the more jobs open up allowing for more villagers to move in to fill that role. You also get the ability to tax a small amount that goes directly to the village fund. So if you long in everday for a week you would get 150,000 bells for public works projects. This is better than just grinding away bells at the island. Also maybe some public works projects have questlines with villagers or something that show up after a certain period of time.
