Came out on Switch today. Did anyone else play it?
The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa
Ringo's a bad game OP, sorry to say.
I just finished my first playthrough and enjoyed it. What didn't you like about it? My biggest complaint is that you can't influence the ending.
Wannabe Kunio-Kun game?
I wish I could link my Steam review, because it explains everything
Instead of trying to be the next River City Ransom, it's trying to be more like Shenmue and Yakuza - but those games have amazing, in depth world interaction and cinematic storytelling. Ringo lacks both - and hell, I'd say both those games being 3D makes their combat more in depth and involved than what Ringo has.
>My biggest complaint is that you can't influence the ending.
That's fine with me to be honest, because the ending is really great
You and I wish. Wannabe Yakuza/Shenmue without the budget of those games
If you're that guy from the last thread, I already read it
I did like the ending, it would just add a lot more replayability of you could try doing different things to sort your friends problems out for different endings.
Shenmue and Yakuza don't let you influence endings either.
I mean it'd be nice if you could, but nothing about Ringo made me seem like my choices could matter - not that garbage that Yea Forums worships like Life is Strange or Walking Dead lets you make any choices
I suggest Way of the Samurai 3 and 4 if you want choices that influence endings - stellar games and both on Steam
I haven't played Shenmue or Yakuza, but I have played WoTS3 and 4. I'm planning on emulating the first two games soon. I had a pretty fun experience with Ringo, a lot of shit felt organic, like getting my ass kicked under the bridge and getting saved by the mechanic who teaches you moves.
I've been a fan of it since it launched on Steam, so i'm glad the console release is bringing more eyes to it.
The ending is the best part. It's perfect the way it is.
>switch fans get excited when PC shovelware gets ported
Other than atmosphere, music and story, what could make you like the game so much? The core gameplay is pretty shit
The combat was nice once you figured out how the guard meter worked and got some of the boxing techniques. It's basic, but I wouldn't say it's bad.
Compared to RCR, an NES game, it's super basic, and I get it, Ringo is more "realistic" - but at least the physics could have been tighter, where characters trip and fall into eachother, a weight to it.
>Other than atmosphere, music and story
Those are the primary reasons why. I also enjoyed how open ended it was, experimenting with different things, figuring out what actions influenced what, and trying to get all the obtuse achievements before there was a proper guide for it.
It's not a very good "game" (The combat for instance is terrible), but I really enjoyed my time with it.
>The combat for instance is terrible
Glad you understand and to me that's its greatest falling, because that's pretty much all you'll be doing if you're not running around like a chicken with its head cut off
The only time you -have- to actually fight, you can't lose. So I generally just avoided it most of the time otherwise, I found better ways of making money.
Like you can run around at night and make a fortune just sitting back and letting other gangs fight it out, and looting their corpses afterwards.
>Like you can run around at night and make a fortune just sitting back and letting other gangs fight it out, and looting their corpses afterwards.
See I wish there was more of that. My favorite moments in GTA:SA or Postal 2 are when chaotic randomness just happens and I can profit off of it
>The only time you -have- to actually fight, you can't lose.
But I also like beat 'em ups - so engaging with the combat, while subpar, was the only sort of activity that made sense to do
Not him, but I went out of my way to get into fights and I had fun with it. It's definitely not worth fighting groups of enemies without your friends with you. I just wish I knew how mechanics like hunger functioned. The game might have been too cryptic for its own good.
You have to be full to heal
To heal you need to smoke (which is just you sitting around, bad game design)
It's... a very strange system.
You can heal with cigarettes without being full. I was starved for almost the entire game.
Okay then I really don't remember the connection food has to gameplay.
