Yes...it's brighter why is this series such shit?
i'd say pretty much most remakes except the final fantasy iv and vi ones
why do they keep remastering games that came out less than a decade before the remastered version?
Metro remaster is better
It makes no sense there is a light source that strong in a metro system, remaster is better
Spyro and Crash, but they aren't actually remasters, they are remakes. I don't get why they are calling remakes "remasters" lately.
Iirc the PSP ffiv looked good.
Because people buy them and they cost little to make.
soul / soulless
well 2033 was never on a playstation console so i figured they would want to remaster that and last light just to put it on ps4
Redux has better models and textures as well as technically better lighting effects, but the original game went overboard with fog, volumetric lighting and tessellation creating some pretty atmospheric moments. Redux reduced these quite a bit. I kinda wish there was a way to get a mix of the two.
Remasters are usually just amping up the lighting for some reason.
Remaster has... less blue?
mark of the ninja
You're seriously not implying that NMH on PS3 is better, right? Even Suda openly hates it.
Please tell me the right isn't the remaster...?
based
Homeworld
soulless....
:^)
It's not, but it unironically looks better. The left ruined the celshaded look, among other things like effects and sounds.
This was about graphics.
too bad about everything else.
The style doesn't look that bad, could maybe be toned down a bit, but but the left looks too much like a badass. travis is a goofball.
they fixed formations with a patch
The effects and sounds seem fine. It's definitely worse but it's not that bad when you're playing it. The game looks quite good in its own way.
first game is still fucked
More content is not equal to a better game.
>""""""""""""remaster"""""""""""" comes out
>every light source dramatically reduced, some simply just turned off
>texture mapping effects removed
why does this always happen lads?
Classic had better readability at the very least.
Because remaking is the hot thing right now.
>Boomer remembers X fondly, nostalgia
>Zoomer wants to see X because Boomer has talked about it non-stop
see the movie industry
>Using Metro 2033 as an example
Wasn't the original one of the few games that actually had muzzle flash? Granted, the remaster didn't have terrible screen tearing, but I thought the original Metro was actually supposed to be groundbreaking as far as graphics.
Because mostly they are lazy cash grabs
>next gen comes out
>port it over for quick money
>leave code a mess
>bump up the resolution
>Call it a remaster because high resolutio nand call it a day.
Mostly they just port over over last gen pc versions over to PS4/Bone but even then they fuck it up.
Is there a more soulless remake than this?
Of note, the HD re-release reverted the farm sprites in an update. Though I still think the food icon was still wheat which would still make sense than meat by the Castle Age but it's been a while since I last played.
Same concept as applied to remastered music. JUST MAKE IT LOUDER BRO
OoT3D
Sonic the Hedgehog CD
Skyrim
Crash N Sane Trilogy
Duke Nukem 3D
Turok 1+2
Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge
Soul Calibur 2
Sonic 3d Blast Directors Cut
Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition
Goldeneye X with 60fps widescreen and mouse aim (probably. Haven't tried it myself)
The Monkey Island remakes are pretty top notch, voice acting great, visuals great, music great.
I unironically really hate how the top looks and I don't really know exactly why
Skyrim
Overdesigned.

Retard
Over designed "Scifi" textures and too much brightness.
Sonic 3 complete
I mean I guess it's "better" but it's fuckin ugly.
Usually a rule of thumb is that if it's a remaster of a game that came out in the current decade it's a lazy cashgrab. If it came out over 20 years ago it's usually better but it's mostly because it's a borderline remake at that point.
The best remasters are the ones that don't try to fuck with the graphics to make them look "modern" and are just a faithful port that takes advantage of the better hardware to provide higher resolution and framerate, and at most clean up some low res models and textures.
Capcom's been very good about that this gen
>Killer7 (Steam)
>RE4-6 on modern consoles
>Dead Rising 1/2/OTR
>DMC4SE and DmC: Not Total Garbage Edition
>Onimusha
>RE0
>Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen
All very good. Sadly current-gen DMCHD has a ton of issues and REmake makes some pretty big changes to the art direction that are hit-or-miss.
HAIR
HAIRLESS
DMC4SE has that disgusting vaseline look though.
Do you honestly believe that left is better? if so im sure you are the kind of person that came when Ready Player One flashed all those pretty colors to your face.
Learn to read kid.
Because even devs now can't tell the difference and get it wrong.
The fuck you talking about "kid", left looks like shit and its a "remaster" if you dont think it looks better then why the fuck did you post it.
why not
343i overdesigned the fuck out of everything, from Human architecture to Forerunner architecture, and then they added more lights to everything. I can’t wait to see the reaction from PC gamers who haven’t played the remastered version. Shit, just wait until they the Guilty Spark level with its “remastered” graphics.
You dont even know how to respond, alright.
That just how anime artstyle evolved. Or devolved depending how you look at it.
Can't you disable the remastered graphics?
H2A is full of soul especially in the revamped cutscenes
Why are VN remakes always so SOULLESS
Somebody please post the disgusting Yu-No remake
Skies of Arcadia Legends
why is his left eye popping out of its socket?
top feels like some nu-male no man sky shit, while the bottom looks like it took inspiration from Alien.
Not really sure what you're referring to
I'm 99% sure the middle right fire is just photo-shopped stock image of fire.
>that amateur photoshop fire
The smoke is also just the photoshop fog tool.
Yeah you could by pressing select.
REmake and REmake 2. Capcom really did something with those two games.
Both are ugly but right is even uglier.
Those are remakes not remasters.
>Remake=remaster
It's not like the original art was amazing but yikes
Left is better though, the jack just needs to be redder and the shades need to be see through
You're right, should have paid more attention to the OP.
FFXII Zodiac Age then, can't think of any other good remaster it doesn't count as a remake since the job system was released in Japan years ago.
Heartless NPC poster.
FF12's remake sucks.
Jacket*
Please don't pretend this VN was ever good.
>FF12's remake sucks.
Why ? They didn't butchered anything.
I like both but the left is is better man, give me one good reason it's bad. Did you complain when you saw the TSB trailer too? Do you think that looked worse than the original?
yes.
They butchered most of the textures, the colors, and added blur.
>FF12's remake sucks.
FF12 remaster isn't perfect but the pros definitely outweigh the cons
Dual-classing, actual shadows, the orchestrated soundtrack, and Van's abs being fixed are worth the weird cutscene aspect ratio and hit-or-miss texture updates.
Not him but far worse shading not to mention the blood effects are absolutely horrible compared to the Wii version
Can anyone explain to me what the difference is between a remaster and a remake? I mean, I thought remasters just reused assets and polished them up maybe with some higher resolution and extra effects and remakes were remade from the ground up. But them again you have Spyro, Crash and MediEvil which do exactly the latter yet are called remasters.
which one has more soul?
"Remaster" is just a fancy name for a port.
TSB is not my kind of game so. But no, visually NMH on Wii is just much better, though I will admit the remake looks good in its own way. You'd have to play them to understand.
The only pro is 8x over 4x speed so you can get it over faster. Multiple classes make the game easier, music is literally the same, shadows add nothing to the game, and abs... are you gay? The graphics are just straight up worse. It's blurry and the colors are off and the ambient occlusion adds black splotches to every characters eyes which were one of the more impressive things about the game. Not obscured to some degree.
Thats a remake.
What if it's a remaster on the same console like in NGB ?
Because they forget reimagining is a term and think remake means drastic changes like that. And remaster means "graphics update", maybe a bug fix and QoL change or two. No matter how remade the assets and code need to be.
>remaster
Taking the original vision and sharpening the visual quality while preserving everything about story and gameplay
>remake
Take the general story and mix it up a bit, add familiar places and brand new to keep it fresh. Change the gameplay a bit to meet a modern design
In order to explain remastering it is important to understand what a "master" is.
The term originates from music production, in which music was recorded onto large reels of tape, called "masters" at a very high quality. These were then transferred onto vinyl, casette or whatever and distributed. In later years home media would allow for higher quality sound playback so studios would access the old master recordings and redistribute them into the new higher quality format.
The same goes for computer games. When creating art assets in games, everything from the textures, audio and models are produced at a very high quality. These original high quality assets are masters as well. Let's say a game came out in 2007, those textures would likely be around 512x512 pixels. However, the developers/publishers still had original high res textures likely with an absurd res. If a studio were to "remaster" a game, they would access the higher quality assets from the original game and re-release the game with those assets. A "remake" is exactly what it sounds like. Instead of releasing the same game with higher quality assets, the developers decided to release the game with assets completely "remade" from the ground up.
System Shock
>hur dur old better new bad!
Left looks extremely similar to the original on the right while having a shit ton more detail
I mean like I said I like both but I'd choose left over right if given the option. Would prefer a remaster or remake that looks like the left though just have a good mix of both on switch but that'll probably never happen unless Nintendo buys the company think it's nostalgia man, what does the right do better than the left besides the blood?
So what you're saying is that I'm right and they are just labeling it wrong in case of Spyro, Crash and MediEvil?
booo graphics stink!
bottom is literally soulless..
That’s the point...?
You just odn't get it.
How has this not been posted yet?
or this
at least the voice acting was better
When's the last time you actually played the original FFXII on a PS2? It's horribly blurry with PS2 psuedo-motion blur and depth of field out the ass. The color temperature is slightly different, but it's so minor that you'd never see it without a side-by-side. The environmental textures were mostly just run through an upscaling filter, but the character textures they redid are miles better while remaining faithful to the original unlike FFXHD. And the music was completely redone, they just didn't change the fuck out of it again like FFXHD instead focusing on providing higher quality instrumentals. And dual classing fixes a big problem with the original IZJS, namely a lack of lategame variety and characters potentially getting saddled with bad jobs for them. FFXII has never been remotely hard so difficulty isn't really a big deal.
Just watch this and try to tell me TZA is bad
youtube.com
Also Travis Strikes Again is great fag, though I will agree with the PS3 version of NMH being trash
Why do they even bother remaking models, textures, lighting, map design etc when all they have to do is fix some bugs and up the res on the old textures? It must cost a lot to overhaul the visuals so much, but for what benefit? It just looks like one of those "cinematic" mods that is technically superior but fails to capture the original tone and just looks like a cheap imitation.
lol
It's like you guys don't know how light works. Both of these instances make sense
So is the top you nostalgia blinded faggot, like that could not be more "Generic old platformer" looking
I think the new lighting engine in Grim Fandango Remastered makes it look better than the original.
Thank you for your effort in writing all that, it helped me
That's not a remaster, it's the same game with a bunch of new features hacked into it.
Does it make the game any less shit?
>alien
>not nu-male garbage
pick one and only one
>redone graphics are great (they're a lot better in motion)
>redone music is great
>level design got completely fucked and they added a shitload of cutscenes
Why didn't they just have a classic mode that kept the nice new graphics and music but just slapped them on top of the NES original?
Probably not but it adds Duke Nukem.
>a few modders in their spare time make a better HD remaster than a big multibillion publisher.
Emulators are a thing. I've played the remaster, it's not good.
should've gone with event horizon?
>they unironically look at fire
To be fair the original HD Collection was Konami's ploy to acquire a no-name mobile developer
I wish I was joking
Good Lord. Who did the remasters to this? It reminds me of the Bamham remasters by some Chinamen. The Chinamen remasters were utter shit.
i need milkies
Yeah, old NES games look like shit for the most part due to lazy devs. I'd like to see more remasters of unique looking 8-bit platformers like Batman or the Wario Land games
youtube.com
tfw good looking platformers were possible on the NES if not for lazy devs
They did a good job remastering Modern Warfare
>it's not good
Nice rebuttal, really put some thought into that one.
It's fucking CoD, neither of them have any amount of soul whatsoever.
So it's nostalgia got it
Top guy looks like a retarded cousin of the Bog bros.
Sorry that the kids who bullied you in high school played cod, but that doesn't make the games some of the most compelling war stories and some of the best arena shooters.
Sorry you're utterly retarded and delusional.
Try them yourself and you'll see.
While you were playing Magic the Gathering with your smelly friends in the foyer at your high school chads were having a blast in MW2
right one is cuter because he looks like he has puffy cheeks
they just plain suck though, CoD hasn't been good in 15 years.
I'm not him (he's pretty awful at arguing desu) but the shadows look a lot worse, the PS3 version has this weird not-cel shading thing going on. The much harsher blacks of the Wii version fit a lot better. The blood effects aren't really something you can sweep under the rug either considering it's NMH, and the PS3 ones really are abysmal. The cutscene before Destroyman is a good comparison between them.
youtube.com
youtube.com
Not to mention the controls are clunkier, it's a lot buggier, it runs like ass, the new minigames suck, the NMH2 bosses feel weirdly shoehorned in, and an entire third of the city is cut out.
Nah, you just haven't played a CoD game in 15 years.
serious sam
Er, between the two versions in general. The cutscene AFTER Destroyman is a better example of how much worse the blood effects are. Note that the Wii version has a hose like spray and it's one solid color so it all blends.
Oh yeah and the PS3 version took out Heavenly Star which is unforgivable.
.hack//G.U. Last Recode, without a doubt.
youtube.com
wider FOV = better
This is the only good one so far
No, it adds a couple new challenges and kills but otherwise it's basically unchanged mechanically. Better frame pacing, better looks, higher res.
>mfw I want to get this but my autism demands I play the original .hack first and they still haven't remastered it
I could always emulate but I guarantee by the time I'm halfway through they'll announce a rerelease because that always fucking happens to me
The Kingdom Hearts remasters all look better than the originals
>RE4-6 on modern consoles
Literally just the PC versions, they are not remasters
>Sadly current-gen DMCHD
It's at least better than the PS3 one
it's a shame they ruined the balancing by upping exp to such insane levels that if you ever stray from the main storyline you start 1shotting bosses and shit.
>>DMC4SE
Added motion blur, depth of field, removed aspect ration support, and runs fifty percent worse across the board. If it even runs(dx11 only iirc).
It's shit.
>Literally just the PC versions
The pc version of RE4 on steam is remastered, i don't know if you can buy it anywhere now but re4 did have a pc version and it was complete trash, easily the worst port i've ever played.
I'd disagree, the PS3 version has three major issues that the current gen versions fix, but it adds a ton of minor issues that I think adds up to an overall worse experience.
Like what? I actually own the PS3 collection, but haven't played it yet and was about to get the PS4 collection. I know about the major issues the PS4 fixes, but this is the first time I heard about any minor issues it adds
Also Night Trap, Double Switch and Dragon's lair Trilogy
yeah, sadly I have. modern warfare is awful, and the people who gravitate to it are worse.
Got 10 minutes to spare?
youtube.com
I wish they had remastered IMOQ first too but I don't know, I guess I feel alright with their decision regardless because I can just emulate the first four games while I wait for a possible announcement for IMOQ HD.
This right here is what brings Last Recode down somewhat. They had no reason to do this since the original release was already considered easy. .hack was never known for difficulty. I now have to gimp myself if I want to experience any kind of struggle since I bought the PS4 version. PC version has a mod to alter the difficulty which is nice.
There are ways to disable motion blur and depth of field on PC if you really want to even though they look great in DMC4 IMO. It's not as well optimized as the original PC version but any halfway decent card should still have no problems hitting the 120fps cap.
Not to mention, you know, three new playable characters.
They didn't remaster IMOQ because people can't stand the slower paced gameplay. We're even seeing MMOs move into action combat territory, classic turn based gameplay, or slower menu based gameplay is a relic that most people don't enjoy.
IMOQ remaster will happen evnetually. Not any time soon though, recode sold pretty poorly from all accounts.
And the difficulty thing was just an enormous misstep, and I don't know why they did it either, the original was known already to be rengeki spam, instead of adjusting it they made it even easier to spam rengeki, and made it pointless to even NEED to rengeki spam with how much exp you get.
>Recode sold pretty poorly from all accounts
Fuck, that makes me sad.
If IMOQ is so slow then why didn't they just remake it from the ground up, give it that REmake feel if you know what I mean? I think it's silly though, how people just don't want try playing the first set of games because of how slow it is or the menu navigation during battles. I've played older games that I consider a pain in the ass to play but I continue playing through them I because I liked them.
Because the ultimate goal, as much as it may hurt to hear, is not you, or me. It's the casual market. They release these remakes/remasters to get more people to buy them. People re-buying is nice but that's never the ultimate goal.
recode itself was actually an attempt to see if the series was worth continuing, since all the mobile games declined/died, link and versus didn't sell as well as they were hoping, and more. GU is the most in line with modern sentiment in regards to gameplay design, so they went with it, and unfortunately people weren't interested.
Remaking IMOQ is something that they'd do for a successful series.
something they're doing for the naruto ultimate ninja (not storm) series, but with boruto. Also CC2 is basically super busy with all the bamco licenses they've been handed. db project z, the new boruto game sometime 2020, and more.
It's sad but true. It would probably take a miracle at this point to see IMOQ remade then.
It would.
There's a pserver for //fragment if you really want to try that, called netslum. It only usually has 1-2 other people on peak hours on the weekends though. Fragment is also single player though, many people don't know that, and it's really fun being able to make your own characters.
But yeah, at this point i'm about over it. I spent years championing the series for remasters. I bought 5 copies of recode (on every platform it's available, plus a couple copies for my friends), but people just aren't interested. I'm accepting of it. Nothing they do will ever change the memories I have of the series, and frankly if it ends here, I'd be alright. It ended with it's story being done (well, //link finished it I guess) so at least we're not gonna end up screaming at a brick wall for 15 years like mmlegends faggots.
I've been meaning to try out Fragment but my laptop is shit tier at emulating anything. Always wanted a proper MMO based on The World R1 though. Nice talking to you fellow .hacker.
You can get a ps2 and a fmcb memcard for like $100 total nowadays, or if you can find a copy of agent under fire (check gamestop, they're going under soon so they'll probably have ps2 games 5 for 5 like they did when they first got rid of them) you can make one yourself. You need the ps2 hardware to get the server up and running, and if you ever decide to get on the server, i'm a wavemaster by the name of KIMUKO.
Have a good rest of your day, .hacker
may we meet in the future.
>readability
do you see words on the screen?
what mod is this? I've always wanted to start minecraft since I bought it all those years ago to play those shitty maze servers online, but the weird lighting was always my biggest issue with it.
