I miss UT and Quake so fucking much Yea Forums. I can't handle that they're dead.

Is there any arena shooter on PC nowadays that has an active community? I don't care if it's only a few hundred or thousand dedicated players, just if it's stable!

I just played some of the new Unreal Tournament with my younger friend to show him these old games that I'm always going on about and we had a blast but there were like 50 people playing it and I think a lot of them were bots.

UT4 was also abandoned totally unfinished so playing that is lame.

The abilities have been nerfed to the ground and barely help you. Its still about movement, item control, and gunplay.

nah, not only were they never that bad to start with, the more offensive ones have been heavily toned down and you can't crutch on them to wipe out a whole team
i.e. seeing through walls is fucking useless if you can't hit dick to start with, invisibility doesn't do squat if you're a predictable moron and the enemy will shoot a rocket right where you're about to reappear, etc.
other ones tend to be standard shooter fare, like ranger's one-use teleport (translocator), anarki's heal (q3a medkit), and so on

alright that's good to know. would have still preferred pure shooting and movement but I guess that's not enough for zoomers

fucked up how we went from UT2K4's 500 amazing game modes and also double domination to games just being a single game mode. I wonder how long it will be before we see another UT game mode made into a single game.

99% of the match will be pure shooting and movement, the bigger variation will be character choice as most of them have different movement types representing the various previous quake games
