Even as a big fan of the anime, I can't recomend this. The game controls like a hot mess, and numerous basic design mistakes left me constantly saying, "I've seen this exact thing done compettantly before, so why is it so bad here?" The ally AI has no depth beyond, "make the bad things dead" and will often doo things that actively hamper you, from knocking enemies out of bounds where they can't be attacked, to spamming their generic heavy attack, which does next to no damage, but gives the enemy generous invulnerability frames. Enemy scaling isn ear nonexistnat, with same level key being able to spawn either a boss that goes down in one hit, or one that could take 10 minutes to slowly wittle down. Sound design is attrocious. Music volume varies wildly between tracks, and I ended up just turning it off. Character lines are fine, excpet for one girl who sounds like she's litterally kissing the microphone as she's talking. The game never explains that dificulty effects what can drop, so you can be stuck farming for quests for hours never knowing that what you need will never drop. The game doesn't even run in 1080p and it chugs on my GTX 1080. Having an Xbox controller plugged in makes this problem even worse and makes the game downright UNPLAYABLE later on. I circumvented this by making the game think it was recieving keyboard inputs through steam, but only certain actions can be rebound, so it's going to take some trial and error before you figure out what your keybindings should be.
Plot and character interaction is decent, except for Diana, Akko's major foil, who has near no consistency, and the story lets you pick which three arcs to do in what order, so for 3/4 of the game characters act like the other parts never happened.
Constanze was really cute though. Give her more flowers.

More accurately it's like Harry Potter, but duller, in fact it was one of the dullest franchise in the history of anime franchises. Each episode following the girl witch and her pals from Luna Nova as they fight assorted magical creatures has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the forced animation, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective storytelling, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Trigger vetoed the idea of Kobayashi directing the series; they made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for figmas. The LWA series might be the anti-Kill la Kill (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-Tweeny Witches series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

The writing is dreadful; the films were terrible. As I watched, I noticed that every time Akko found herself in a pinch, the author made her overcome it by "believing in herself."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that solution was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Yoshinari's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that he has no other style of directing. Later I read a lavish, loving comment of LWA by the same Hayo Miyazaki. He said something to the effect of, "If these kids are watching LWA at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to watch my Kiki's Delivery Service." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you watch "LWA" you are, in fact, trained to watch Miyazaki.
