I just wish that they didn't insist upon memes like not having a cracker or bread product - European MREs have some fantastic menu selections and come with delicious crackers/sides, US selections can be pretty lacking beyond the entree.
I suppose it's due to the nature of a 5+ year effective minimum lifespan.

What we really should do is have some true "long term" MREs (the usual) and have shorter-term MREs to cycle through that are basically normal canned foods. Imagine getting something like fruit cocktail, some bread/crackers spread, some jerky, hard cheese, an oatmeal raisin cookie, and some electrolyte flavor pack for your water
