just got my desktop updated/fixed after not touching it for awhile realize I hadn't visited Space Engine in a few years.
What are some cool new additions to get me up to speed? What are some neat things you've found? Post your screenshots, I'll be posting mine, this thread can also be for talking about space games in general.
I never really messed around with adding ships and getting them to move. but since watching TOS Trek for the first time I NEED an Enterprise model for screenshots
pic related with those Mass Effect lens flares I thought were cool at the time. Ignore those, but I just love seeing rings from the surface. I know it's not really comparable , but as shitty as NMS turned out to be, adding rings to planets added a lot of character to planets.
it's technically a "game" try it out for yourself spaceengine.org/

>shouldn't this be on wallpaper board nah space engine is interactive enough for me to post here. plus it says it's coming to steam soon on their website. it just so happens that some screens are wallpaper worthy
>Imagine having the night sky be this colorful imagine the mythology that would have developed. double that with rings. imagine the art and poetry of a society with that kind of night sky.
This one is great. Does the game actually do those snow effects?
Nolan Jones
it's not pretty, but the fact that you can visit other galaxies is crazy
my favorite thing to do is just move the camera slowly towards the top of the plane of a galaxy and just soak in the increasing density of stars as I slow down. with the interstellar soundtrack on loop in the background
I don't know, flying isn't easy but I've learned how to fly the ships in space. It's hovering on planet atmospheres that is difficult, because the more atmospheric pressure a planet has, the harder it is to fly. It's very easy in low pressure, like moons.
seeing the moons in the same plane as the planet was the coolest thing about seeing Jupiter in a telescope.
Caleb Young
Pretty sure all the NASA photos you see of nebulas only look colorful because of image processing. In real life they wouldn't be visible to the naked eye.
Man, can't wait to get the cash for the new PC, first thing I'm gonna do is go balls deep into high res aesthetic screenshots in space engine. God bless that crazy slav
It's cool to look at a planet or other astronomical body from a distance, but I think there's nothing else like a picture taken from the surface of an alien world
Is that elite dangerous? When did they had asteroid bases? I probably should reinstall, but I'm hesitant because I actually felt really lonely and anxious after exploring and trading for so long.
Adrian Gonzalez
Yes, that's ED. I remember finding one of those asteroid bases about a year and a half ago when I started a journey towards Sag A*. It sure does get boring fast, but it's alright if you're looking for some good old fashioned space dread.
OP here, it's been years like I said, but I just loaded it up and under landscape LOD the value was at -1.000 np. having a space kick recently, not complaining.
Jonathan Peterson
don't remember what this was, probably just a graphical glitch
I'd try that, but I don't know anything about 3D models. Another problem is that he doesn't cast a shadow, which kind of ruins the realism of the picture. I wish spaceengineer would add some kind of astronaut mode - even with a hacked-together solution like this you get a much better sense of scale.
>I wish spaceengineer would add some kind of astronaut mode that's what I love about KSP. nothing makes you feel smaller than walking after getting out of a ship
Wyatt King
this is terrifying and i love it
Michael Bailey
>AAAHH SCANNERS SAID NOTHING ABOUT QUICKSAND AAAAAHH
Ryder Thompson

Jose Price
Top comfy, beats every other walking sim out there
Dylan Smith
fuck still says 0.9.8.0beta even though I uninstalled the old version
can someone confirm what version they're using?
Gavin Torres
nevermind, just downloaded and applied the 0.9.8.0e patch it's all good
David Lewis
>"Never gets old, does it." >"Kinda makes you wanna..." >"...break into song?" >"You know it."
awesome screenshots. can never get mine looking that nice
Austin Garcia
I wish space were real bros
Angel Foster
just gotta find that perfect planet
Isaiah Edwards
The colours are typically real but intensified by a long exposure. If you were close it would look dim but quite visible, if for no other reason than it covering the entire sky.
Is there any mod or maybe another program like space engine with an animated jupiter? I hope to one day see one that even has 3d clouds beneath the "surface" sorta like pic related
>even has the galileo shuttle oh boy. screens with it on the surface are gonna be neat
Landon Wilson
I spent like three hours on Space Engine a couple weeks ago, listening to the "Interstellar" soundtrack. What a fucking ride, bros.
That game freaks me the fuck out in the best possible way. Watching the suns rise and set on an alien world, flying through a pitch black nebula and landing on a rogue moon in that void, seeing nothing in the night sky, looking into a black hole and realizing that these perversions of science and nature are out there, collapsing everything unto itself.. its fucking great.
Playing with the time feature is trippy and fun, too - watching eons go by in seconds fills you with awe.
I think the new features I haven't really played with are the new "flight modes" that let you explore like you're flying a ship rather than just clicking and moving. I imagine it'd be frustrating, but could be fun.
Ryan Morris
what's new?
Luke Rogers
>listening to the "Interstellar" soundtrack based. here's another good song. first discovered it on that scaleoftheuniverse2 website, then reheard it when I was playing Kerbal Space Program. youtube.com/watch?v=2vogsgSLfBk
>"flight modes" that let you explore like you're flying a ship rather than just clicking and moving. I imagine it'd be frustrating, but could be fun. currently download Trek ships to figure it out

>tfw C# aurora still not out WHERE'S THE UPDAT STEVE?
I recently loaded up Space Engine for the first time in a few of years.
I see it still crashes a lot (unless there exist some fixes for that). Don't know if I still have my old screenshots, but kinda want to take some new ones if it behaves itself.
Robert White
>I see it still crashes a lot (unless there exist some fixes for that) check your version against the one on the website, the 0.9.8.0e patch probably addressed some stability issues. didn't read the whole changelog, but it's worth a shot. the more screenshots the merrier
