Halo being this ultimate casual experience was unfounded. Anyone who has played the game can tell you that. It was just different from older shooters like Doom, Quake, and Unreal. But what it did, was challenge the players in new and different ways. The original Halo trilogy is good.

The gatcha shit though. That's genuinely awful.

everyone played the fucking game. the original released for PC, was easily pirate-able, and it ran on toasters. its a shitty game with extremely bad level design in SP and absolutely terrible MP.

I'm not going to lie. The level design is kind of shit. Giant oversized maps, for no fucking reason, with little direction on where to go. But it makes up for that, by making enemy engagement so much more interesting than other shooters. Instead of just running around like you have jetskates on your feet, and firing like a twitchy spaz, the game demanded a more strategic and methodical way of playing, which, once you got the hang of, then you could perform fairly quickly.

Well, those are the ones I played. My brother likes Doom, Quake, and Unreal. So I played Doom Quake and Unreal. I tried a bit of Half Life. Didn't like it. Oh, and if Jet Force Gemini counts, that was a lot of fun. I actually got all the tribals.

I also want to note, that Halo came out in 2001. And FEAR came out in 2005. Halo was criticized as "baby's first FPS". Implying that the games that came BEFORE it, were more hardcore.
