It feels like I've been seeing a ton of ads/partnerships on how to get a Nintendo Switch Online subscription recently. Is the service not doing as well as Nintendo had hoped?
It feels like I've been seeing a ton of ads/partnerships on how to get a Nintendo Switch Online subscription recently...
why would it? it sucks dick
Service would be better received if they added other systems than the NES. It's not even that hard to do either, they're literally just copy pasting the emulation from the S/NES mini and putting it onto the switch.
According to an article from a while back, the new NoJ president said not enough people are buying it or they buy it for a month then don't renew. A few glorified ROMS and bad online play with no servers isn't worth paying for.
I think it has something to do with amazon and twitch and having a prime account gets you switch online for free for a year. Which sucks because I bought a year subscription right before that offer became available. But yea I'm seeing it constantly.
You can still redeem the offer, and it'll add it on.
I'm on a family plan so it's was only 4.50 a person, but I still haven't used the online service. The only game I play online is Warframe and that doesn't even require it. I won't be renewing my share of the plan
It makes more sense on their end to space it out as long as possible so people will resub when they do introduce SNES games and again for N64 games. I think they got kinda screwed by Capcom and Konami releasing their own game collections and thus not putting Mega Man, Castlevania, or Contra on the service though..
It will when they release Mario Maker 2.
>so people will resub when they do introduce SNES games and again for N64 games
God this is going to be a nightmare. I can't believe the Wii's library of VC games is still the best one.
ah well that's worth looking into
It's true that switch online aint great. The emulator would be cool if I hadn't had emulators for everything from the nes to the gamecube for years now. Looking forward to Mario Maker, especially just trying other peeps levels.
Unless this also gets GB games.
You probably have been seeing it a lot because of what said. Amazon/twitch pushing it hard right now - the reason for which is probably as you think. Service is cheap, but honestly a joke. Hardly any online games worth playing even, the save backup is nice? But, yeah, the only other worthwhile thing is the emulator, but it's just mostly shitty NES games, if they ever throw up SNES sure it'll be great but they're being slow and lazy and it's just pretty whatever right now. Mostly just gotta cough it up though to play smash online. Shit's gay.
>NES Online does not function and is a very barebones emulator otherwise
>Smartphone app has nothing to it beyond gatekeeping Splatnet 2
>There are no special offers besides overpriced NES controllers
>Save Data backup is nice but doesn't work for one of the major games you'd pay to use the service for
>The online is still P2P
They're charging $20 a year for practically nothing.
If Mario Maker requires online I'm not even buying it. Mario Maker already died within in a year on Wii-U and that shit was free. If only 2 people are playing your levels what's even the fucking point? May as well just make a ROM hack.
I hope they did away with the needing to get likes to unlock more save slots thing.
>>There are no special offers besides overpriced NES controllers
This is fucking insane. The physical rewards should be for the MyNintendo program like the physical rewards Club Nintendo had, not for your digital online service.
>Mario Maker already died within in a year on Wii-U and that shit was free
That was back when Nintendo was cracking down hard on streamers and Youtubers using their footage. Looks like they changed their tone purely because they realized how much it'd help something like MarioMaker.
you said that for smash in december
>rewards
No, they let you BUY the controllers. $60 + shipping.
Meh, I made like 10 levels in the first week and got like 800 stars. I'd rather them just limit levels for people without Nintendo Online and give more slots for people that pay or something. Paying to make and play levels in any capacity would be retarded.
They just need to add some snes games, no one gives to shits about the nes
lol no, it's not doing well at all, which is why they had to shit out that twitch prime promotion to get people to subscribe to it
Maybe if they stopped with the drip-feeding NES rom releases and actually released a full fucking catalog of NES/SNES/N64 games right now, people would actually subscribe to this shit.
>but doesn't work for one of the major games you'd pay to use the service for
Splatoon 2?
Some games won't have cloud backups to avoid save scum.
they're the dumbest people in existence
they could simply put out the fucking virtual console on it and print money selling 20 year old games, but nooooo, they will instead make a shitty service that doesnt offer anything but NES games and P2P connection
i miss iwata so fucking much
Couldn't they just limit it by only allowing players to backup or download their save once per month for those games?
Not an excuse when they had 1 year worth of delay to find an alternative method for those games instead of sitting on their asses
Virtual Console was unpopular in Japan, but they've had a much more positive reaction to Switch Online. You know how Nintendo favors them.
If you have games like Splatoon, Mario Kart and Smash, you're forced to get the service or else they're mostly obsolete.
fpbp
they delayed the service for far too fucking long for it to just be the same shit we had for free for over a year, i dont understand why you can add randoms as friends but you cant communicate with anyone
You could still be okay with Mario Kart and Smash locally. Splatoon is more difficult because you need 4 or 8 people and everyone needs their own copy and Switch.
Nintendoâ„¢ quality service
